Ooba-sensei looking through her student list to see their calibres before the Geidai entrance exam, it's a test to see who can rise up to the top with their strengths and weaknesses.

Yaguchi and his clique of friends are gonna graduate soon, and their futures are certain of their own applications.

The 1 week mark has begun, and more assignments for practice pieces and pep talks before the real thing. Yaguchi hasn't quite got the adaptability part tied down, and Ooba-sensei making things clear for Yaguchi now is a better time, especially towards self-centeredness, and putting fun into the work. Yaguchi is kinda a bird-brain to take things figuratively which shocked Kuwana and intrigued Hashida to be more pumped for the Geidai entrance exam. But of all things, he's losing his focus more and more, which does not bode well.

Some parts taken from Ooba-sensei's advice, and some are from Koigakubo's pep talk, which his decision to enter into pastry school as a patissier, like Yaguchi chasing his own dream, he's also taking his 1st step outside his comfort zone. Yaguchi feeling happy for him, but then again, venting their own issues onto each other also works for motivation. He's loved by his clique, and even more so for the actions he does, Yaguchi's more pumped.'

Don't focus on adapting to the work, but making it a derviative of your own, that's what Ooba-sensei's words really meant. The Geidai entrance exam to only use pencils and charcoal (and even more restrictions according to the rules), it's a very stringent process just to draw good and expressive art by hook or by crook. Yaguchi certainly didn't expect stress levels like this, even after using the Chaco pencil for quite awhile.

The Day of Geidai's Entrance Exam, and is NOTHING like the cultural festival that he attended before. As expected, Sekai-kun appears just to complete his pre-requisite, and Yaguchi gives him the push.

Geidai's Entrance Exam, 1st Dessin topic: a collage of a "Self-Portrait", Yaguchi has ONLY ONE CHANCE, to have fun.
But Yuka/Ryuuji drawing that "X" on his canvas, WOW THAT CUT FELT DEEP with those striking sound effects of 2 pencil scratches.

One of the better episodes.

Chapter 14-15 were adapted.

There's only one week left before the Geida entrance exam and Ooba-sensei is carefully looking through the student list and summing up their strenghts and weaknesses.

And you know what you have to do before an entrance exam? Rest, sure thing. But before that, it's to improve even more. Yaguchi lacks adaptability. Yaguchi's the type of guy who looks straight into things without mixing his own stuff in it. As Ooba-sensei said; he misses self-centeredness. He cares a bit too much about what's happening around him but not with what's happening with himself. Which is not necessarily a bad thing but a bad habit. Seems like the most important aspect out of everything she said is to have fun. Hashida got into TAMA and Kuwana's shocking face was hilarious.

He uses the advice from Ooba-sensei and puts it into work. Well, thanks to Koigakubo's small conversation, it got even more clear for him. He decided to enter pastry school as a patissier. Something similar to what happend to our maincharacter. Both are trying to do something which they weren't fond of him. That's a great way to experience new stuff and enjoy life. This conversation hit really hard.

He turned the art he ''created'' into art that he ''likes''. Exactly what Ooba-sensei meant with her advice. And he's adapting it really well. The exam is finally here and the only thing you can use is pencils and charcoal. Yotasuke was there too and that was a small exchange of words. On the other hand, Ryuuji who drew a X on the canvas is certainly unexpected. She gave up like that. But for Yaguchi, a collage of a self-portrait is his first exam. It'll be pretty stressful for him but we all know that he will get through it with the amount of effort he put into his previous works.

Haven't reached this far while reading the manga, so my dumbass can finally stop comparing each frame to the manga.
And with that said, what an episode! This series keeps hitting harder and harder with every minute.
The scene with Koi and Yatora was so relatable as an aimless high schooler myself. And that final scene, man :(

Great episode! Seems the thing Yaguchi is missing is being self centred.
Koi chan wants to be a pastry chef as he was inspired by Yaguchi following his dreams also. Koi chan is also a good friend to him. That rash thing that Yaguchi has on his arm looks pretty bad… he should also takes care of himself.

Looking forward to the next episode!

This episode was a little quieter compared to the others, but episode 8 will likely be very eventful. Yatora's rashes can cause something to happen and I'm anxious to know what.

The test is that it burns, it is not known to sim and the weakest part of the episode was to see Ryuuji's problem if he knew that he had problems but that it appears out of nowhere, it is a trick so that the expetardor is surprised and we see how in The next episode solves his problem, for me what is missing to give more power to that scene of Ryuuji in the exam is that someone will threaten him in the chapter as it would be logical in the scene where Yagushi meets teacher Masako I have already said he ate for example : Today Yagushi have seen Ryuuji because he has not attended all his classes and if you see him he has a face with a smile that does not warp me

The episode intro with Oba sensei, talking about her students was very interesting, unfortunately we did not have enough screen time to care about them in the show until here, so everything that she talked about did not stuck with me. Even her character itself, it's not that deep, so having her perspective about the class was kind useless. I feel like she is just a character for that moment in the MC storyline, after he proceeds in his journey she is not even will be there anymore lol (just like most of his classmates).

The whole "you need to improve your ego" plot whats kind meh, i feel like this anime is always throwing something new in the mc ark to make him a better "artist". I think at this point and rate, sticking with one drama would be enough.

But what shines the most in this episode, is what this show does best - the relatable different perspectives from the struggles. Honestly, that revelation from the tall mc's friend, about his desires was very appealing to me since he was very introspective like i am.

Also let me give some props to his advice about how the mc always looked like someone who would accept and say everything that others people wants ignoring his own personality for everyone's sake. That was very mature and interesting dialogue.

This episode has some technical issues with the animation, you can see that every time we have more than 2 characters in the screen, everything gets dumb looking lol Also the mc faces when he was "nervous" were terrible ugly and messy.

A mid episode from a show that im enjoying but worried about the amount of things showcased in such fast pace narrative.

Man, the pressure for this entrance exam couldn't feel more palpable. Yaguchi was so stressed out but at least he managed to keep his insecurities under control for the big day so I'm glad in that regard.

Another pretty good episode. The talk between Yaguchi and his friend being the highlight for me.

But that cliffhanger tho... Ryuuji, why?

This episode wasn't bad. Thank god.

The composition and colour palette have improved a bit. Only a bit. But, it's improving. Still not inspiring enough. Or not fun enough.

Koi-chan and Yatora's conversation actually really surprised me. The anime did a good job with it. I didn't think I'd praise anything from this anime, but I actually liked it. No, I loved it. The voice acting was good, and the music was so pure and beautiful. Just perfect for the honest and vulnerable way the characters had to open up. For the first time, I felt like I was looking at people doing art.

Yatora has great friends. It is so nice to see his friends care about him, and not an image they have of him.

Yotasuke is back. He always puts a smile on my face. He is the best character for me.

Yuka's stress has been building up for quite a while. Now, it has shown its result. She can no longer draw for other people. Her art needs to express her feelings. They need to belong to her, and no one else. When she crossed out her paper, it felt like she was claiming her power back.

This episode gave another important art lesson: have fun. When you have fun, your art is fun to look at, and you love what you've made. I have made paintings where I paid more attention to colours and the theoretical side of art. Everyone praised those paintings, and I can tell they look theoretically good, but I didn't feel happy at all. I am happier when someone likes me drawing manga characters since I have fun making them. lol

As a noob artist, I love this series. After their exam theme announcement, I got super inspired to draw something and well... I realised (again) that I am not good at this. But that means I'll have a lot of topics to learn and have fun experimenting within!

I'm not sure either, but as the topic of "Self Portrait" it could be that, Yuka is unsure of who him/her-self is, all he/she sees when looking within might be a panic of not knowing of who or what or why he/she gonna do with their life. The big X may therefore symbolise all of it in the best way possible. "Don't." "I have no self." "I don't know who I am." The X, can be the "Don't.", The "I have no self.". It may be a way of saying that he/she do not care.

Although, this is just pure speculation on my part. And when I was completely unsure about my life and my future in college, that was my feelings. "Don't", "I don't know who I am" and "I have no self". He/she might feel the same =)

Koi-chan reminds me of Ben Affleck's character in "Good Will Hunting". Not everything, of course, but just that vibe of being unconditionally happy for a long-time friend who's found their "thing" and is willing to help them pursue it, with Real Talk. I get the same fuzzies in this episode that I got with the "I knock on the door, and there's no answer" speech.

note that yatora takes the exam for oil painting department , while yuka takes the exam for japanese art department , so maybe yuka receives a different exam theme than self-portrait .

There are really different types of educators. Some are complete asshole. But a lot are nurturing and inspiring. Ooba-san and Saeki-san really helped Yatora throughout his journey. They help him realize who he really is. And use that as a tool to pursue his dreams.

Why did Ryuji draw an X though?! Does that mean she doesn't want to pursue Japanese arts but she really want to do something else?

Playing catch up this week, so a double episode on my end. The only thing I wanted to mention from last week was that I appreciated the Kuwana development. These two episodes are sort of picking up the series moreso for me.

I'm really appreciating the connections and conversations we are getting to see with Yatora and pretty much every other character. It's good to see some progress from a series that is kinda sprinting towards the finish line, so to speak.

Considering Ryuji's identity, I get the impression that the X is on purpose and not necessarily a withdrawal. Albeit, I feel like it's a rather risky attempt. Akin to that old screen shot:

Oh the beautiful entrance exams. feeling how stress begins to take its toll on the body, insecurities and how the last week seems to be the decisive one. I love that all of that has been addressed in a good way. Ahhh how hard it is to go for what one wants to study, seeing how badly valued the profession is.

Ryuji just drew a cross and left. Something is really bothering him. It was mentioned that his family is full of artists, so it could be the accumulating pressure from all those expectations.

It would be funny if the examiners make out a deep meaning out of that cross and selects Ryuji XD

The topic is self-portrait. I'm sure they don't want a mere drawing of yourself but a drawing of how you see yourself. That's tricky. I wonder what will Yatora come up with. If it was me, who can't draw without a reference and is more into realism, I would fail so bad XD
I would literally be there asking myself “how do I look like” “what am I” “someone please give me a mirror”. If I was in Yatora's place I would use the window glass to see my light reflection to draw myself.

This episode really made me realize how important friends are in someone's life. Koi-chan being there for Yaguchi was so precious. I almost teared up listening to their conversation. Other than that, the exam day is finally here and we see Yaguchi being just as excited as everyone else for the exam. Nervousness is there but the fire to get selected into the school is much brighter.

Again, I'm more concerned about Ryuji. He's not looking good. That X makes me worry and I don't know who's gonna help him through it. I hope he doesn't feel too bad about stuff. That's really sad to see.

Another great episode. Highlight was his discussion with Koi-chan. Usually, I'd expect his delinquent friends to turn their back on him because he's no longer "cool". But that's not the case here, and I like that. Koi-chan being inspired by Yatora pursuing his dream, those friends of his being genuinely excited for him. Those are some great friends even if they don't understand.

Things are intense. But I wonder what happened to Ryuuji?
