Besides the Ghibli movies, as well as huge franchises like Pokemon or Digimon, there isn't a lot of things that are really geared toward kids 8 and under. The only titles I can think of are Kemono Friends and Little Witch Academia.

Note: I do not have kids lmao

There's a lot of stuff for kids. Problem is that most of it isn't dubbed and kids don't like reading.

Doraemon movies, Shinchan movies, pokemon, Digimon etc. Maybe my list can help as I have included kids/kids types shows on On-hold, completed, dropped list and plan to watch list.

Non. I'm not sure getting my kids into anime is a good idea. Scare they have unhealthy obsession on it. But I won't prohibit them if they naturally discover it and make sure they can balance their studies and hobby.
It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person.

Just use the extended search function of MAL? This lists all shows rated G (kids without supervision) MAL knows about, sorted by rating. You can show PG to 8 y/o too, and some PG-13 stuff may be OK, depends on your opinion. Either can be searched this way, and sorted by genre etc.

All G-rated shows sorted by score

Oh well, my social ineptness strikes again, lol. It's smalltalk, one of those things I never will fully understand. Personally, I'd just go the same route I do for my own anime diet, and that's search, links to themed clubs from the top entries, and looking at lists from people with "good taste" (just search the page for G and PG ...). Guess I'm a little too technical there.

OK, personal suggestion: Cardcaptor Sakura, I'm just watching this and it's great.

Kids at my hometown have low literacy in english language..
And anime has been heavily censored lately in my country.. so no new anime dub so far.. (i think?).

Yeah... I don't think i can actually recommend any..
I would love to share anime like Cardcaptor Sakura and some CGDCT tho... XD

Going off of what I watched as a kid, shonen seems like a pretty decent choice. I used to watch Naruto when it was on TV, and my brother watched Dragon Ball Super and Inazuma Eleven for a while.

Ghibli movies are also great choices. I watched Spirited Away as a kid and still love it immensely.

I showed my cousins Kiki delivery service. They weren't into it in the beginning but got really engaged as the movie went on. I guess the struggles of Kiki really resonated with them.
Anyways I might also show them Ponyo at some point, I guess that's the best Ghibli movie to show to kids.

For Tv series Little Witch Academia is the best choice. Aside from some girly-club and that one teacherxstudent joke,i remember Hinamatsuri being very tame and Hilarious for entire family+ Anzu being a good role model for kids.

For children of 7-8 years old, i would recommend a lot of old anime i myself watched around that age as well + other anime that are child friendly, such as:

Ai no Wakakusa Monogatari(Tales of Little Women) + the sequel Wakakusa Monogatari: Nan to Jo-sensei(Little Women II: Jo's Boys)

Alps Monogatari: Watashi no Annette(Alps Stories: My Annette)

Anime 80-nichikan Sekai Isshuu(Around the World with Willy Fog)

Bananya

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon + the sequels R, S, SuperS and Sailor Stars(I recommend this for children of at least 10 year old though)

Chiisana Obake: Acchi, Kocchi, Socchi(Three Little Ghosts)

Digimon Adventure + the sequel Digimon Adventure 02 + Digimon Tamers(I recommend this for children of at least 10 year old though, as i find it more mature than Pokemon, i'm talking about the uncut version not the watered down dub of course)

Jikuu Tantei Genshi-kun(Flint the Time Detective/Flint Hammerhead)

Kashi no Ki Mokku(Saban's Adventures of Pinocchio)

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!(Should be fine for 10 year old and up)

Kyoro-chan

Makiba no Shoujo Katri(Katri, Girl of the Meadows)

Matantei Loki Ragnarok

Monster Farm: Enbanseki no Himitsu + the sequel Monster Farm: Legend e no Michi(Monster Rancher)(For 10 year old and up since it's more violent than Pokemon.)

Nanatsu no Umi no Tico(Tico and Friends/Tico and Nanami/Tico of the Seven Seas)

Neko no Ongaeshi(The Cat Returns)

Ningyohime Marina no Bouken(Saban's Adventures of the Little Mermaid/Mermaid Princess: Marina's Adventure)

Ohayou! Spank(Hello Spank!)

Ojamajo Doremi + the sequels Sharp, Motto! and Dokkaan!

Peter Pan no Bouken(Peter Pan & Wendy/Adventures of Peter Pan)

Pokemon

Power Stone

Puchi Puri Yuushi(Petite Princess Yucie)

Rockman.EXE(Should be perfectly fine for any 10 year old and up)

Shin Calimero(Calimero (1992))

Spoon Oba-san(Mrs. Pepperpot/Old-Lady Spoon)

Sugar Sugar Rune

Tottoko Hamtarou(Hamtaro)

Tsubasa Chronicle + the sequel Tsubasa Chronicle 2nd Season(The ones from 2005 and 2006, anything in the franchise beyond that is not suitable as it has blood and gore!)

Unico: Mahou no Shima e(I would rate it 10 and up because of the creepiness it has)

Yes! Precure 5 + the sequel Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!

Yume no Hoshi no Button Nose(Dream Star Button Nose/Button Nose)

If I have kids the first anime I'd show them is haikyuu. besides the standard huge franchises of course.

I recently saw this video on fb where the mum is asking this small child (prob 5-6y/o max?) what are the names of the characters off a wall poster and she could remember some!! freaking adorable :')

whatever you do, don't let them watch yugioh. an expensive hobby (online / real life play) and they no longer remake fast gameplay like gx tag force evolution so it's slow, it's money and time consuming all put together.

You've already mentioned digimon so my suggestion would be to teach them how to play football or any sports for a quality time with them.

I have kids aged 2, 5 & 7. All boyz.

So far they have watched Doreamon (when they were younger), One Piece & Detective Conan. And they love all of them.

We sometimes think the latter two aren't age appropriate. I say that but I also let them watch Primal the other day when the misses was out.

I don't watch much geared towards kids but I tend to think a lot of shounen is fine for kids under 8 but one anime I have watched and hasn't been mentioned is Dennou Coil which I think is top notch and is absolutely great for kids.
It also has good messages that kids will understand, delivered in a way that is not preachy.

Outside of ultra-mainstream toyetic shows....

All Ages:
Little Snow Fairy Sugar
Cardcaptor Sakura
Tokyo Mew Mew
Petite Princess Yucie
Chi's Sweet Home (No dub though)
My Roomate Is A Cat
How To Keep A Mummy (no dub)
Bananya
Yotsuba& (only a manga but wholesome and perfect for all ages)

Older kids:
Azumanga Daioh (Mr. Kimura is questionable but I'd say older kids would be okay since I was 10 when I watched it)
Slayers
Squid Girl
Magic Knight Rayearth
SGT Frog
Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok (I actually don't remember anything objectionable other than mild profanity in the dub but my memory's hazy so putting it here just to be safe)
Naruto
Inuyasha (it can get quite violent but I was 9 when I watched it and turned out fine, and it is intended for kids in Japan)
Really most battle shounen should be fine

Nami is the most obvious choice.

Jojo and Hokuto no Ken to make the kid grew muscles.

And Fate/Zero because all kids like everything related to the King Arthur.

(Tbh at that age i watched things worse than those but society changes, i guess...)

TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN
The original Kidou Senshi Gundam and the Unicorn Gundam, then the Tekketsu no Orphans. Or maybe not. But they should see this.
Naruto, of course. The younger the kid is the better, in time they will be able to compare themselves to Naruto and his growth as a human and as a man.
Koe no Katachi, definitely. To show the cause and effect of unintentional malice as soon as possible.
Gintama maybe, it is full of silly and vulgar jokes, but the children are not supposed to get the vulgar ones, and will likely enjoy the simplistic silly jokes.
Ookami to Koushinryou. Yes.
Ohh this has to go to the first place.
Kanata no Astra. Oh wait Luca... Well, by the time it happens the children will love the young heroes and sympathize with each one of them.
Okay something sub-optimal. Hyouka. I cannot remember a decent slice-of-life to recommend. Compared to the mentioned above titles, I just... cannot see them. Too bright.

Absolutely would be my first choice. But I'm pretty sure most American boys would immediately be repulsed by the cute girly aesthetics and most American girls have too low an attention span for such a show due to having their brains rotted from watching Frozen 40 times.

Stuff like world masterpiece theater and shows that promote toys like bakugan, beyblade and b-damam etc are all aimed at kids
There are also many mahou shojos like jewelpet, shugo chara, tokyo mew mew, card captor sakura
Sport anime -> inazuma eleven and captain tsubasa
kid friendly version of naruto,yu gi oh,hxh99
early detective conan,doraemon,monster farm,digimon

I actually have a similar question. I currently am looking for an anime to watch with my 10 year old brother. I struggle to find *good* anime that isn't necessarily a "kids" anime, but is still appropriate for the tween age.

We just finished Kids on the Slope. Definitely not geared at kids, but the worst it had was some sexual references. He loved it and is one of his favorite shows now. Before that, we watched K-On. Another great show for his age group, while still being good.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

For 3+ year old

Pokemon, Hoshi no Ouji Sama and most WMT shows, for instance Princess Sara.

These are very light and not too stimulating for most parts.

6-8+ year old

Beyblade, Yu-gi-oh!, Digimon and OG Dragon Ball

More intense action, exitement and drama.

From 10-12+ year old

Is probably the ideal age to start with fully fledged battle shounen which deal with relatively heavy themes and have complexer characterisation. One Piece, Naruto and HxH for example.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

I personally can't remember a sports anime that had anything that'd be bad or inappropriate for a kid to be honest. Even something like the original captain tsubasa would take ages to finish anyway and I know that when I was in primary school we all loved it.

Other than that, there are tons of anime that'd be perfectly fine for kids: beyblade, miyori no mori, colourful, mary to majou no hana, konohana kitan, karakai jouzu no Takagi-san, tonari no Seki-kun, almost all of the lupin III and detective Conan that's ever come out, hakumei to mikochi, hotarubi no mori e, momo e no tegami just to name those I've watched. Not all of it is probably interesting to a very young child but despite its pg13 rating I can't remember anything in, say, natsume yuujinchou that would have scared me more than the old hag in snow white or maleficent in sleeping beauty (and I'm pretty certain I would have liked natsume yuujinchou more than the princess stuff, too).

Then again, this kind of stuff is more interesting (generally speaking) to a male child than a female one. For the latter, disney princesses or some ghibli stuff are still probably more interesting/entertaining.
