Car Makers want to collaborate on Anime.

Toyota : PES
Nissan : Rinne no Lagrange
Honda : one off

Japanese young people tend not to buy cars recently. They don't want to buy them, because of long recession. Besides, in urban areas, especially Tokyo and Osaka, the transport systems are well instrolled, and people don't need their own cars.
Makers are suffering from the decreasing in their car sales.
These collaborations wolud be the commercial for the young who like to watch Anime to buy cars.

Japanese car manufacturers have it tough. The high yen coupled with ever increasing competition from both America and South Korea is making their cars harder to sell at the same pricepoints. They need to make up sales somewhere and maybe advertising their stuff through this format will help boost sales in Japan. They are already having problems for their exported versions due to both the quake and the ever increasing yen. Honda has already stepped backward in quality when they released their new Civic. The cost cutting is very evident on it compared to the last generation. All while Chevy came out with the Cruze which is a huge leap forward in quality and Hyundai has their new Elantra which offers a great package at an even lower price.

Nissan seems to have the most issues regarding the yen issue. Their prices have been creeping up year after year. Just a few years ago when I was car shopping, I was looking at a new 370z and you could get one for less than 30 grand. You can't even get a completely base one for less than 32 grand now. That's a decent price hike on the base edition which only translates into a more expensive decently equipped one. Even with the devaluing of the dollar and inflation, that's still a significant increase compared to other vehicles. These next couple of years will be interesting to see on how Japan deals with this issue and remaining competitive with their ever improving competition. This isn't the 90's anymore where the competition was downright shameful. They need to really come up with some good ideas or they're going to be left behind.

I think it's better that something like this is kept short, otherwise we'd be bored half-way through it.

Also taking note of the new car-anime trend...

That trailer, I loved the music, and it looks fun. The story itself looks stupid, but it was really pretty to watch. All those colors! Felt like one giant acid trip, though, lolol.

I already wasted half an hour of my life on the Subaru anime, so I might as well check this one out too. The fact that Studio 4°C is producing it is a major plus.

Foreign cars are not rivals for Japanese cars in Japan. Korean cars are not sold well at all even Bae Yong Joon, a famous Korean actor, shows up in Hyundai's commercial film in Japan. American cars have some enthusiastic fans who like to drive Mustang, Corvette, Limos, and so on, but not so many. BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo are the foreign cars what Japanese people want to buy. These are expensive and not for the young. Japanese car makers may focus on the sales in Japan because of the circumstances in Japan.
Yen is too strong now, and the industries export their merchandise are suffering because things they deal with get expensive in other countries and don't sell well. And Anime fans who live outside of Japan is also suffering. They can't buy Anime goodies easily because of the price. Figure collectors would be crying. So is DVD/ BD collectors. Also Anime convention stuffs... I talked with an OTAKON stuff who was in their booth in Tokyo International Anime Fair. I said "I hope Hatsune Miku will appear in OTAKON some day." And he said "Sorry, but to invite MIku is so expensive." Yes,Yen is too strong.
I wonder why the Democratic Party becomes major in USA, Yen becomes strong. In 90's, Clinton. This Time, Obama. Is this a coincidence? I can't believe it.

Yeah, it's certainly a problem for their exports because of the yen. Because of that I guess the manufacturers have to focus more on their domestic sales rather than try to compete in unfavorable conditions elsewhere.

I think the coincidence is that both Clinton and Obama's presidencies had large growths in our stock market. While Bush had a record high during his presidency as well, it also hit rock bottom there towards the end. It's a strange coincidence really.

Update! First episode has been released, only a few minutes long, and the next one will come out soon. Some really gorgeous animation by Studio 4C (wouldn't expect anything less!) and really adorable aliens! Love the positive message and bright colours. You guys should take a look! Have you all seen it yet?

Here is the link to the first episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Nv5GBqdsV8

What does everybody think? I'm really excited for the next episode. Glad to see that the characters, artwork and story are in focus more than the car.
