Mecha. I find it rather boring so that's that.

@SPCTRE frieren is basically 50% slice of life and you have it in your profile
@anen0me It for sure has slice of life moments, but it's not what it's about. It doesn't even have the slice of life tag. Slice of life anime typically have no plot development and focus on character relationships instead of an actual plot.

i'm pretty open-minded and like a wide range of genres, but i've never quite understood the allure of hentai. i've seen quite a few clips on youtube (you know, those random recommendations 😭😭😭), and the artstyles are typically mediocre at best imo. for my part it's nothing but low-budget slop :( like if it's supposed to sexually excite you, at least make it look nice and palatable...

You can simply answer the question by asking yourself: 'Which anime genre would I never watch?'
For me it's easy, I would never watch a Boys Love/Yaoi anime, not even under torture.

@iThink completely agree and every fucking show, manga, web comic or series of this genre looks 1:1 same

Horror 100%. And no, I don't mean anime with scary parts in it (Hellsing, Berserk, Akira, etc.) as those are usually primarily action oriented or just involve variations of classic horror characters (e.g. vampires).

I've seen very few anime that classify as true horror anime, and was only appeased by one mainly for its mystery elements, that being Higurashi. I could totally live without it though as it's not my most favorite or anything along those lines. Slightly off topic, but the same holds true for live action films, personally. Not because they're "scary", but because most are poorly written slop and a total waste of time and resources.

Edit: Forgot Mononoke which I only just watched a couple months ago but it really didn't feel like horror due to the art direction imo. Probably the best "horror" in that regard lol.

@Yuu_Kanzaki That'd probably be my second one to yeet for that exact reason. Lots of in-universe politics, which are usually overtly complex for no good reason and quite arbitrary (though it is inherited from the sci-fi genre so I can't blame mecha). But I'd definitely miss Gurren Lagann.

I do not advocate for "deleting" something just because I don't like it. However, if these genres/sub-genres disappear, I won't shed a tear
1. Boys Love
2. Girls Love
3. Idols (Male)
4. Idols (Female)
5. Magical Sex Shift
6. Villainess
7. Crossdressing
8. One Piece
9. Sports

Honestly, my favorites being Action, Sci-fi, mystery at times, and maybe shonen because of one piece. I don't keep up or are interested in romance and such (Only watched a few movies but not my favorites). So romance would have to go for me. 🗿

Probably Isekai, going through them they seem like the most low budget anime out there that they just churn out.

Battle Shonen. It's the most influential of the bad genres.

Then Shoujo.

Then Yaoi.

that's hard... I wanted to go with "boredom" aka sol and cgdct since I simply can't get into it, no matter how much I watch.
then obviously BL. but I don't watch it in the first place so it'd be useless to delete
then I realized, it dawned on me like a revelation. "normiebait". anything that is deemed safe to like by sjws.

see I have a friend who openly hates the idea of anime and keeps mocking it whenever he has a chance, without saying "I hate anime" out loud.
I asked him why he hates anime, he instantly went on the defense "whoa it's not like I hate it, I just don't have the time you know, to watch it. I heard frieren and dungeon meshi are good. have you heard of them?" now that's the kind of inexcusable garbage that has to go. holy shit.
the same kind of people want chips without salt, and cola without sugar.

Genre deletion based on individual opinion is just plain censorship which I do not approve of. Every genre has it's takers and while the popularity is not evenly distributed, it's each and every type of genre that makes up the unique diversity of choice we have.

@SPCTRE

this is my take too. although I've watched bits of SoL animes that are actually really good (like City the Animation). I wouldnt get rid of SoL entirely tho as it is also a secondary plot in lots of genres like romance.

Isekai has already done enough damage to the industry as a whole for over a decade now, so that's the obvious choice.

which anime genre would you delete

i would happily delete the action genre. maybe anime would die after that but if it didn't then the quality of all shows would definitely increase

Idol anime. Knowing how toxic the industry is and how they're aware of the toxicity and use it to their favor... Please no. Music anime are fine though, not the idol ones. I can respect tastes, sure, but most genres would be harmless if someone enjoys it since, normally, real people aren't affected.

Boys Love. Personally, It will be like nothing happened since I don't watch those. xD

If I'm gonna put some thought into it, I'd say Racing. When did that genre really ever feel like it's about the racing aspect and not something else. xD (Initial D, maybe? I haven't really seen it so idk.)
I guess that's basically saying Sports Anime in general. For the most part, Sports Anime tends to focus more on every other aspects aside from the most important one: the sport it's representing itself. It's always more about the characters, story, bad-assery, fighting spirit, fanservice, etc. Maybe in the early 2000s and prior, there was more attention given on sports itself, i.e. Slam Dunk, Hajime no Ippo, Major, but barely in the 2010s onwards (even Blue Lock's appeal comes from coolness and such stuff). So, while it's a well-intended genre, it's barely appreciated as 'Sports' anyway, and not really going to impact the Anime industry too much if it's gone.

Maybe Idol stuff, because of all the real World crap associated with the Idol business/subculture in Japan. I just usually avoid this. But other people enjoy it, so I probably wouldn't, I would just leave it alone like I tend to do now.

I'm not someone who wants to erase genres.
Even the genres I don’t personally vibe with, I can tune into if it's comedy parody, or has hot dommy mommy waifu. Nothing gets deleted; everything has a purpose in my opinion.

@Hiru_Napyeer full transparency, it's just a more or less random epithet I picked to stress that it is inbred in a bad way,
and also because the phrase with three words looked more aesthetically pleasing to me.

If I had to make an actual argument as to why it could be considered braindamaged, that would be because of how extremely limited it is in ways the story can be set up,
and how narrow in scope and shallow its development of the main narrative hook ends up being, when the story even remembers what its basic premise, or like a promise to a viewer, was, because some of them just completely ignore the 'villainess' part and do whatever, at which point I just don't understand why even invoke that image in the first place beyond simple marketing.
Granted, that wouldn't be a good argument, but that's as good as I can do on a short notice ┐(‘~` )┌

Avant-garde. "Breaking boundaries" and conventions for the sake of it doesn't impress me much, meaning around 1 in 10 Avant-garde anime are actually worth the time investment, with the rest handicapping themselves with flagrantly unsubtle social commentary or borderline incomprehensible visual direction that discourages the viewer from being immersed in the chronology of the series.
