Definitely not your ordinary rom-com lol

I get what they're doing with Yumeko by her making look like that. The attitude change though is something to take notice about herself. Tbh, I think this episode had potential because it sets up pretty much the rest of the season. Plus, there's others that she can build relationships with such as Keisuke. Reminds me a little bit of April Showers Bring May Flowers.

Mangaka Mamakari's lone series about a plus-sized rom-com, yeah...this is weird...

Starting out just like how Mushoku Tensei did, too bad that that's not the reality for the plus-sized 24-year-old Yumeko Kouda who nearly got Isekai-ed to another world for her death...instead, it affected her mind with retrograde amnesia from committing suicide and not being able to recognize her parents thereafter. And the pretty face of hers supporting a maiden in love, for her to find a guy she knows just resting under the bushes, which she always has a one-sided crush on him.

Anywho, the walk back to work and her superior of Hiroki Maezono putting Yumeko in her place, and one meeting thereafter with her department colleagues of Saki Tamai and the rest about marketing limited edition flavoured potato chips, her stepping up to the plate and giving ideas, that's unexpected...what's expected is the police calling her up for her attempted suicide, which could be upgraded to murder with the assumption that someone's out for her life. The thing is, while Tamai is the idol of the men in the office, Yumeko is the exact opposite to scare them the same with her massive food intake, and all those idea notes of hers which are now contributing to her work, earning the former's ire that she isn't the star of her department.

Yumeko even meeting the same gentlemen she's had a crush for, though having to confess to him of her amnesia, he's alright with starting as friends with her, which is a plus. However, her overhearing the conversation from other women about Tamai just being eyecandy for attention and standing up for her "best" friend, reality is but the opposite, to the point where her idea notes has been thrown off.

Yuuma Uchida's ED is fine, and Gang Parade's OP...well, let's just put it, very energetic.

This is just weird, but not a bad start for someone who thinks positivity against all adversity.

I almost say this is the most original re-incarnation anime ever, but I watch too many anime so I know there's already anime about protagonist re-incarnating into the same person without knowing that and has to find out why life gone wrong. Still, the fact that you've to rewind back in time 15 years to find that anime with the same idea means this idea is still highly original.

I won't say it's good, but it's funnier than I thought it would be. Besides the romcom aspect, I'm actually more curious about who tried to kill Yumeko. At first, I thought it was her manager, because he seemed really surprised that Yumeko was fine that day... plus, Yumeko always feels scared or anxious around him. And if it was him, what was his motive?

That pink-haired girl... sadly, people like her are way too common at workplaces. I was kinda annoyed because she overheard Yumeko defending her in the bathroom, yet she focused more on Yumeko’s confidence instead of the fact that Yumeko was defending her. I really hope they don’t drag it out and that she gets her punishment right away in episode 2.

Really like Yumeko she seems nice and just wants to do her best it's just a shame her colleagues seem to be toxic.

These are just my initial thoughts after watching the episode and reading reactions.

I liked it. it was a little disrespectful though. Even in the anime, it seems like the creators were being passive aggressive. I could have sworn I heard cow noises at some point with her in certain scenes.

The physicality of it is slightly disrespectful. The face shots, the sweat, the anime ending with the weird open mouth crazed eye thing. I presume these are all signifying gluttony and disgust.

Her character could have been drawn with more class and dignity. It looks slightly bizarre physically when it comes to how she carries her weight.

It's an anime, I don't expect realism, I wish it were true, and this species wasn't so superficial, but the MC and her crush, their interactions seem unreasonable. The crush is way too nice, honestly. I admire the MC's confidence, but it most likely would never go down like that in real life, which makes watching the show slightly off putting.

Trying to give her crush water from her hands is bizarre. Maybe it was supposed to look cute and silly, she is flustered, but I took this as another form of symbolism - this signifying again, gluttony, disgust, animalistic.

I think there is a difference between transitive (positive) perspective and delusion. it's an anime. So I get it. I enjoy it, but I recognize this. Plus, she lost her memory. I also liked the contrast of her physical form. From her depressive state to her transformation. Showing the brightness and her positive bubbly attitude. She is bright!

I like the fact that it is a little more than a potential romance with the twists they introduce (if they could be considered twists). It's just going in a direction I didn't expect.

I like the portrayal of women getting excited and flustered over a crush. You usually see this with the guys, it's nice to see the women show this form of relatable humanity.

I think it's weird she has pictures of him without his consent in her phone, but now she is like a totally different person from before, so it's hard to hold that accountable. It's understandable. Being that depressed, feelings worthless. A painful existence. I can see how she went this route. But it's still wrong. Especially since he looks sad or exhausted in those photos. I am interested to learn why. It looks like he's in a high status role in his career. So maybe it's stress and anxiety? I'm not sure.

How would he feel about that if he knew? How would the relationship develop if at all? He might be creeped out by it. But she just kinda ignores it and shoots her shot anyway. He might not care since she is clearly not the same person from before. That's clearly the saving grace because that bridge is completely damaged beyond repair without ever having the chance to walk on it if she didn't lose her memory or maybe he wouldn't care, regardless. I still think she needs to tell him though.

I do wish they decided to go with the suicide. It shows the depths of her pain through her depression. But then we wouldn't have that change in direction. I think it's interesting they assumed it was suicide though...shows you the perspective of how others may view her.

People disappointment me. Unfortunately this species cannot see beyond. The comments don't surprise me, but it doesn't stop the disappointment.

I am a little paranoid this show it's actually making fun of obese people/people who struggle with their weight though. it's a little conspiracy. But it's a little obvious at times. It doesn't strike me as a feel good self-worth positive creation on the whole. Many will dismiss that, because again, they cannot see beyond surface level shit and are arrogant about it. Embarrassing.

I hope as time passes, for this anime and for this failure of a species, I am proven wrong.

I don't think it's hard to create a decent show that contains an overweight character and a love interest. But people really don't want to see that or truly open themselves up to different experiences. I think it's another bizarre thing.

I like the positive vibes and being overweight myself I liked that the show itself didn't use bodyshaming for comedy (that some characters commented on her was ok I think), I just don't get into the overall atmosphere yet.

This was a fun start! I really like her super positive attitude, it's slightly infectious; as someone who's usually quite self-conscious (unless I've got alcohol), I hope it rubs off on me more as the show goes on.

I just hope the office drama isn't too serious or too large a part of the show.

I'm guessing Yumeko's going to be presenting her idea to the guy in the park in the next episode, which should be fun

bruh, what did I just watch, this show should have been simply called Whiplash, one second it seems to be a touching story about self esteem and accepting our selves then the next second they are instead making fun those same problems, just so they can drop a bomb about murder / suicide just to brush it off with some other nonsense and so on. And then you have that dark ED which was ofc followed by the silly OP. The scene about her hand drenched in sweat was too funny, it was like a bit out of a Nick cartoon, reminds me of Ren and Stimpy.

I kinda liked it.

I was expecting to like this but I wasn't expecting to like it THIS MUCH. Very unapologetic anime, i respect that. The comedy was really funny and the mistery that is introduced is actually intriguing. I'm looking forward to see were this is going.

One complain I do have though: the approach to the suic*dal situation was problematic to say the least. Nothing much harmful thankfully but problematic.

First credit to the brave character design for our female protagonist. This plot reminds to a similar one in the manhwa Miyeon except in that series the protagonist gets amnesia and thinks she has traveled to the future. This was an interesting romantic dramedy.

I read the manga ever since it first came out until the latest chapter and here are my thoughts spoilers free

I was honestly happy and thrilled when they announced that they will make anime adaption of the manga, since the synopsis itself was something i don't usually see a lot, which is about a positive and jolly plus sized main character, the whole point of this story is to love and be true to oneself for who they are, and not try to change for other people's sake, and what really matter is what is on the inside and not outside, i was mentally prepared to read people's reaction and hate comments on social media platforms, surprisingly! more than 70% of readers liked the manga and its plot and its characters, i was seriously relived that there weren't lot of harsh opinions about the main character Koda Yumeko.

What shocked me the most like a light strike was how more than 90% of people who watched the anime for the first time before reading the manga were more mean than expected, comments like how this anime was a waste of time or i don't like the story are valid.

But ones that shames the appearance and weight of the character is harsh

I am not trying to say that this is the anime of the century let alone the season, but the level of hate and prejudice against a fictional character is messed up, even if they were just trying to be funny or sarcastic, this is cruel for a joke, imagine what their inner thoughts and opinions about real life people would be?

Of the top of my head, they were probably hoping for an anime about a gorgeous or badass main character they can fawn over and stare at, or fantasize about being with them or having what they have, pfffft i suppose the animes in the past few years hasn't fulfilled their desires yet lol.

Anyways the level of graphics and animation is really good! i was wondering which will triumph over the other in the level of quality, anime or manga? and i guess i got my answer, although i am a bit disappointed about the efforts of the voice actor of section chef, this voice actor is well known and have amazing voice acting roles but i felt like he was missing some emotions and tones in the scenes, almost as if he was mellow and nonchalant while doing the voice acting for this character, i expected a callus or scary voice acting which would have suited him well, even though the manga is a silent work of art, i still felt some emotions and tones as if i was actually hearing and reading them at the same time.

I am looking forward to the next episodes, i hope they will be as great as the first episode, and if not at least decent.

This show is so underrated. It’s her inner beauty that shines through; I love it! It’s in line with Kiss Him Not Me and last season’s Busu ni Hanataba wo (April Showers Bring May Flowers), but with a completely different twist. It’s pure shoujo, and I think that might be why it’s rated so low.

At first, her bright and positive personality might seem unexpected, since society assumes someone who looks like her should be miserable. But she’s not. She’s radiant, confident, and uplifting to everyone around her. She thinks she’s beautiful, and that’s what counts.

And before anyone says this show promotes being unhealthy, it doesn’t. It shows that your thoughts and feelings shape who you are. By the law of attraction, she will eventually become as beautiful as she feels inside. Maybe not in this story, but in reality, that’s exactly how it works.

I like her chipper attitude for sure. I wasn't really sure I would want to watch this, but it's not that bad. Not all the humour lands for me, but some stuff sure is funny. That everyone seems to hate her in the office also is interesting.

Whoa the tonal whiplash is kinda insane ngl. It's very intriguing to have a murder mystery plot within a very lighthearted comedic SoL story, but as a result I can't focus on the comedy at all because everyone become very sus in my eyes. Tamai is obviously the most sus due to her attitude but is it a complete misdirection? The ikemen at the park seems nice but could he actually be the one involved instead? Surely it's not that deep... unless? 😅

I loved it!!! As someone who is very insecure about themselves (because I'm extremely thin. How ironic!), this first episode has been like an eye-opener.

From now on, I'll act like I have amnesia and try to be a new person and enjoy things.

The main character is charming!!! I'm going to copy her 🤣💛
