Felt like just a couple of weeks ago we were watching Anne start school for the first time, breaking her arm doing her usual shenanigans and all that... and now look at her, she's all grown up, ready to head off to that academy. We've come quite a long way. Though first, she still needs to get that scholarship, so we’re not quite there yet... That is, for Anne at least, because for us, it can be snowing in one scene and sunny with flowers blooming in the next, just like that, in the blink of an eye. And now here we are, at her graduation ceremony. That little montage of everything Anne’s been through... man it really hit deep. But what really got me was that conversation between Anne and Matthew at the end... damn. She’s really gone and grown up eh. |

The episode was quite fast paced with lots of things happening, and at a few moments, scenes just flashed by. It does look like Anne's hatred for Gilbert has toned down in this episode with the time that quickly passed by. She even made two new friends, but sadly, we didn’t get any actual decent interactions between them. Anne and Diana’s bond is rather unbreakable with how much they love and care for each other. During the times when Anne suffered from homesickness, the other girls gave her the support she needed to get through another day. Matthew and Marilla were so proud of Anne when she won Avery, and we saw how much they cared for and missed her during the beginning of the episode after she left for Queen. The moment Anne and Matthew shared at the end was a sweet one. Matthew's health is in decline, and Marilla isn’t doing well either. What was that talk about sorrow? Does something sad really happen next episode? |

Such a roller coaster of emotions in this episode. We got the complete first year college student experience for Anne, the highs and lows. It just feels like Anne is truly starting to take that first step into adulthood. I’m so proud of her, but just as things go up, they must come down. Not ready to lose Matthew ๐ญ Even though it was kind of rushed because of the amount of content they have to cover, I think they did a great job showing that freshman year experience. The happiness at being accepted, the sadness when you realize you’re away from your support system and home, not knowing anyone in class, but also the joy of coming home for that first big break and feeling proud of yourself for making it through. It starts getting easier and before you know it, campus is your second home. Also helps when you have your totally not crush there in Gilbert lol Josie fat ass annoys me so much man. How you gonna come in the room and eat all Anne cookies and then constantly talk shit lol. She’s the sort of person who says her real feelings as “jokes”. Very weird person. I like how Anne doesn’t even let her get to her anymore tho. “They see each other every weekend” lmaoo here I was thinking it was ages since Diana seen Anne last and no, they just treat every meet up like that. I love them sm. I think it’s great Diana didn’t go to queen’s tbh it’s helped make Anne grow up! Proud of Anne for securing the Avery and a scholarship to Redmond! On the other hand though it’s sad because I don’t think Matthew or Mirallia will be able to see it through. Matthew clearly has heart disease which wasn’t really treatable in that day and Mirallia has something going on with her eyes/brain.. this is the one part of this show I knew would hurt me because her adopted parents are so much older than her. “I’d rather have you than a dozen boys” “It was my girl that I’m proud of.” ๐ข yea he’s gone after that for sure. Fuck man, next episode is gonna break me. |

Well we had a scare before, but I think this time Matthew might be biting it for good, the signs were too clear near the end of this episode, and not only that but what Anne said at the end can only mean one thing I imagine, really sad but I already know this would hit way harder in the original anime after spending a lot more time with him, just a result of this being a much shorter adaptation unfortunately, I’m sure it’ll still be a good episode tho. But this episode wasn’t all sad, we also saw Anne get a scholarship for college which is a huge deal, the title of the episode had me wondering if she’d do it or not but her hard work really paid off. I also liked what we saw of Anne getting homesick and adjusting to the new living situation, we moved past it quickly but I’m glad we saw a bit of it, it’s funny how Josie oddly enough was part of what made Anne feel better lol. And I wish we got to see a bit more of Anne’s new friends, Stella and Priscilla, they seemed nice but Anne’s time at this new school is already over, it is what it is I suppose. |

And just like that, Anne and Gilbert are killing it in their studies. Marilla and Matthew are such great parents. They did have to go through her daughter leaving to study, but then the gratification and how proud they looked when Anne gained the scholarship. But all things in life have a time limit as well. It was beautiful what Matthew said to Anne, but also the thing he said before was too real: He's getting old. |
©2025 LaczPro What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway). And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea). |

When I thought they would finally show Ms. Josephine as Anne's benefactor when Anne was looking for dorm room to stay, they still decided to kill off her character, damn. This episode has the same pacing with the previous episodes which is equal to episode 41-45 of the Akage no Anne with few storylines are completely skipped for the consistency. I like how they include the small bits of convo between Anne and Gilbert at the train station showing that slowly but surely Anne started to forgive him and ready to accept him in the future. It's also good to note that Anne sending letters and also visits her wife Diana every weekend. Just like that, Anne doesn't felt like attend any exam but already get a scholarship. The part during her college was way too fast. Lastly Marilla just dropped a bombshell of three red flags in just one episode lol which are Matthew's weak heart condition, her own health issues because of old age and lastly the bank bankruptcy. Maybe I was just really harsh on this show for speedrunning, but this episode is pretty decent at least probably because we finally started to see the paid off of Anne's growth as a character. She still is one of the best and its essence is still there. |

I really, really wish this wasn't so fast-paced. The original Akage no Anne taking its time was part of what made it great, whereas this version seems to be racing through everything at several times the speed. I still feel a strong emotional impact (which is more than I can say for the majority of anime), but I have to wonder: do I feel that way because I've already seen the original and have grown to love its characters, or is it because of this version's own merits? I'm not entirely sure. Regardless, I still liked this episode, and I'm dreading what will happen in the next. Yet, I'm also curious about what is to come. We're approaching the end of what Akage no Anne adapted, and we still haven't finished half of this version's runtime. It'll be new territory for me, and I hope it'll be where this version truly comes into its own. |

I'm not ready for Matthew's journey to end now. It was a miracle and it made me overjoyed that he and Marila got to watch Anne receive her honors on stage with their own eyes but just imagining him not being around for any of Anne's future accomplishments utterly breaks me. |

Way too many things happened in this episode. Anne found new friends but still treasures Diana more than life. She was finally able to break the ice with Gilbert.. happy for her โค๏ธ She won the scholarship but it seems fate wouldn't let her pursue higher education. Mathew to Anne, " I would prefer you over a dozen boys. The girl that I'm proud of. " ๐ฅน๐ฅน We're gonna say goodbye to Mathew in next episode, I guess..๐๐๐ Marilla was talking about the bank going broke as well so I guess Anne would find a job than pursue her higher education to support Marilla. You can see that Anne matured a lot through this time and somewhere along the way, the once lively and cheerful girl got lost. That is what life and growing up feels..๐๐ |

Canadian Victorian students shouting "banzai" is certainly a pretty specific show, lmao. I also find one thing interesting. Considering this is based on a book for teenage girls and set in the Victorian era, the original story probably spends a lot of energy promoting women getting a college education and finding work. But the show only mentions it a couple of times. Judging by the way they handled the romance part, it seems like quite a lot of things were left subtle in this version. @Marinate1016 In the book, she refused to follow her there because she had her own interests and the narrative wanted to make an important message about not giving up your own interests in order to support someone, even if you are close. But this version completely omits that fact. Speaking of her parents, I'm worried about the hint her mother dropped about the bank. Are they going to write in some real case of bankruptcy and loss of savings? @XArceusX Well, they're already somewhere around the friendly rivals stage. Judging by the next episode's teaser, they're going to close out this arc here. Man, the last adaptation ended at this point in Ann's life after a few dozen episodes and manga volumes, but this one took less than a cour so far. |

And just like that, in 9 episodes, our girl's in college. "It's delightful to have ambitions! Just as soon as you attain to one, you see another glittering higher up still." You go, girl! "I'd rather have you than a dozen boys, Anne. It wasn't a boy that took that scholarship, was it? It was my girl that I'm proud of." So simple, but I teared up. |

This adaptation isn't lacking for emotional impact, even for someone like me who hasn't read the book or watched the 1979 anime. I think it speaks to both the power of the source material and a deceptively-skillful adaptation. It's just a joy to tune in every week, the anime has consistently been funny, charming and moving. I fully agree that it's moving along at a breakneck speed. I do wish it slowed down a bit; it might've been nice if college life began with the first episode of Cour 2 instead of Episode 9. But I think it's holding up really well. Surprisingly well, actually. For now, I'm willing to trust the writers to pull off a satisfying story by the end of Episode 24. |

Marilla and Matthew truly miss Anne. I can't imagine how much pain they feel with Anne leaving their house. They're her parents at this point. But every parent must feel the same pain eventually in their lives. So glad Anne made some new friends at Queen's. But no one will ever be able to replace Diana. I don't know what any of those results are. But no wonder Anne won the Avery awards. The girl is a genius. Of course, she wrote the best English essay. She probably has the most imaginative mind in history. Her friends can also become teachers. And Gilbert won the Gold Medal too. Good for him. But it's sad he won't be able to go to Redmond College. It would've been cool if both of them could go there together. But looks like Anne will be alone again. I don't like the ominous lines Anne said at the end of the episode. Of course, then the preview just had to show it too. Please tell me it's not gonna happen... |

Anne is going to the Queen's Academy and she's already suffering of homesick, droping some tears, while writing to Diana. She misses Matthew, Marilla, Diana and all Green Gables and Avonlea. But Gilbert is also at the Academy, so she feels a bit confortable with that, 'cause it's a familiar face, even if he's her rival at the moment. But fortunately, she could come back to home at Christmas' time to be with Marilla, Matthew and Diana before the exams. The highlight was of course, Anne's graduated and the victory of Avery's scholarship. Anne Shirley, BANZAI! She makes everyone proud, especially Matthew and Marilla, her adoptive fathers. But the bad notice is what concerns to Matthew...I cry myself out when he said to Anne that she's his girl that he's proud of. I know, certainly, this was his last goodbye... |

@XArceusX The preview basically spoils it, but there's been telegraphing to a degree and I remember even skimming over the moment in the 1979 anime and it pulls at your heartstrings, even if you had no background in reading the book |

Did anyone else pay attention to the music at the beginning of this week's episode? It sounded almost exactly like Liyue music from Genshin Impact. Unless this is an unknown (to me), popular tune I'm unaware of, Hoyo might go after the producers of this anime for "copyright infringement." |

Can someone explain to me why there are comparison between this anime and previous anime adaptation, why not compare to the original source, which only has no more than 336 pages and 24 episode of anime format should be enough to cover them in detail. The same phenomenon also happen when people compare Netflix's Rose of Versailles to the old anime adaptation instead of original manga. I just can't understand! |

@phantomfandom The book is densely packed with details. This anime skipped over (I've been told) 5-6 chapters of her early life. I'm tempted to finally go read it now, and also to watch the old series too. It is an iconic novel that has stood the test of time & still has international acclaim after all these years. |

What a downer episode! Anne is growing up too fast where did all those years go?? And poor Matthew they might as well put MATTHEW DIES NEXT EP up in flashing lights it seems a little disrespectful. But at the pace this things going Marilla and most of the cast can't be that far behind. I don't know what Sigmund Freud would say but living with your sister deep into middle age seems a little strange, maybe it took its toll on Matthew's health but that's just speculation. |

Anne all grown-up, makes her way to Queen's Academy, though this is a school where she's most uncomfortable seeing new people, other than the fact that Gilbert is the only one she knows all too well. While her newfound friends of Stella and Priscilla keeps the friendship in school alive, none says it much like getting to see Diana and the Cuthberts over the Christmas holiday, as much as her rivalry with Gilbert remains strong. The everyday friendships of the girls being with Anne (and Josie berating her as usual), with the same letters written back and forth to Diana, the results may matter a lot, but it's not the be-all, end-all if she passes or fails, which in this case, Gilbert may have come out on top, but Anne winning the Avery is just as remarkable as any high-flying achievement. When it comes to the future careers though, not everyone is aligned with teaching careers or going somewhere else, and alas for the family that made her, both Mariila and Matthew may have come with age, with the former still being well and alive and the latter with an ailing health that he could pass on anytime. Growing up with sorrows, this only paints a bleak picture... |

Such a sad, emotional, wholesome, and funny episode. I feel so sad knowing what's coming for Matthew but such is life. Really lovely episode. I won't mention the pacing because we all know by now how it is. Anyway, nice to see Marilla sharing with Anne some "Adult Problems" with the bank and her and Matthew's health issues. She is really coming of age and is going to have to learn how to deal with those kinds of things. It will be interesting to see how she deals with adult stuff over the coming episodes. |

Another beautiful episode and I love everything this episode did. Anne got her diploma and is happy to be home at Green Gables. Again we see that she's starting to like Gilbert and putting the past behind her. The best part had to be the Matthew and Anne scene where they are walking home and talking about how Anne wishes she was the boy they wanted. I teared up with him saying he didn't care about it anymore and he rather have his girl Anne. I felt all the character development and the story has really developed into something more. I'm someone who adores that first episode, but you can see that things are changing as the story goes on. The preview to the next episode seem to be a sad one because just by see that last shot of Matthew passing out again and then we see a shot where Anne is running from the house crying, I can tell that this next episode is going to be a sad one to watch. Glad we got one special moment from Anne and Matthew before he dies. I wonder though will I cry harder than Ace's death? |

Anne is doing really well. I do wonder, as usual, if they should have slowed this down a bit. For context - ALL of Anne's Queen's College days are blown passed in this one single episode. It's a perfect exemplar of the breakneck pacing of Anne Shirley. All the little moments from Queens, multiple in-universe seasons (summer to fall into winter etc.), all the extra details about Gilbert and Anne, Ruby and Jane, and Priscilla and Stella, all gone... They cover a whole YEAR in just 15 minutes lol. Akage no Anne dedicates 4 whole episodes to the Queen's College arc, and brilliantly partitions those episodes out into - wouldn't you know it - 4 Seasons: Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. |
