Similar to the other episodes, I think the social commentary was a key selling point in addition to the gameplay.
There's also strategy employed from different sides. Nashiko seemed more anxious though usual though. I hope she can control her nerves better. Kinda cute they have an in-game avatar to track the score. I think it might also be worth keeping an eye on Haneru Emi since she's keeping an eye on Nashiko and her friends.
The Saki vibes where strong this episode.
Anyway since i saw Yostar being mention and seeing the Reaction of @AkeZZZ my guess is this is a real game, sleek advertisement.
But besides that a new girl appears and she appears to be pretty knowledgeable about the game not to mention that she is a pretty strong player, i wonder what she is like.
Izumi's bad dream of rolling only doubles, combined with Nashiko and Riche literally playing Yostar's Mahjong Soul (as @AkeZZZ and @Aversa puts it), the former is out of mobile data, and the game parlor's Wi-Fi is not even working. And try as Nashiko might, she convinced her father to get Wi-Fi for the place, though on a counter.
Everyone starts learning how to play online mahjong and setting their avatar names from Riche, and everyone except Riche gets paired in a ranked match together. Though cheating together, please don't do this...learn to win by your own...which Nashiko is on her wits end being desperate for a win. Too bad for them, their opponent is a rather skilled player, and Nashiko lost badly. There is another option: player-created private rooms for 3 people, which Nashiko earning a manzai for a first win, only to be beaten by the room host, she's just THAT unlucky. Pouring the resources for the rest, the room host is quite the skilled player, though Riche managed to find out a way to stop their opponent from winning, which is by reading their discarded times, which she is going for random. Despite that, their opponent is quite the master player to force all 4 girls' hands, which after a long and arduous fight, Riche comes out on top.
The demon girl Haneru Emi is on her way to Onomichi to find Riche, and she is here to rock their world.
It's essentially good advertisement for Yostar since they're a sponsor for the anime.
Another fun episode for me, despite not knowing the rules, it still manages to be fun due to the interactions between the characters. The facial expressions Nashiko and Izumi were pulling this episode were hilarious. New girl seems so butthurt by the loss she had to track down the location lol.
Pretty creepy she was able to find Riche but we know that the japanese specially are able to do things like that. Pon I believe it was is the one thing while playing Mahjong on the Yakuza / Like a Dragon games that I never got to understand and ended up losing those hands.
Imagine losing to someone in an online video game, only to immediately try to investigate who they are and track them down IRL. Kinda creepy when you put it that way but whatever lol
I really like her character design though so hopefully she'll liven things up next week
Also this is literally just MahjongSoul the animation by now wtf
I think this is better than the previous episodes, I like it when the full focus is on Mahjong even when it's online.
The group decides to hop on their phones and play some Online Mahjong. Nashiko, Izumi, and Pai create their accounts and got into a game together, where they lose to the much higher skilled player. They take a break for a bit but Nashiko and Riche join a private room named "Onomichi Cup." They play against this really good player where they lose multiple times until Riche wins a match.
The ending is pretty creepy as Haneru immediately went online to find Riche and then she found out where she was. Like what? And then immediately went to the parlor.
It looks like they started playing online. And it seems like they have a bit of difficulty playing, but what I saw was only Riche who was good at playing it.
But hey look, who came this time. The mysterious girl, who she is, and what she wants to do. Let's see.
This one was mostly about the girls getting into a mobile game version of Mahjong, which is apparently a real game by Yostar which makes a lot of sense, I thought that loading screen looked kinda like their style since I used to play Azur Lane lol. And once again, despite not understanding the game this was still a lot of fun, mainly due to the usual goofiness between the girls, Nashiko never being able to grasp the game was pretty funny, and her one win gave her confidence only for it to be torn back down lol.
And you also had the aspect that playing the mobile game was a bit different than playing an actual game with some of the conveniences that games have, made for quicker games and no blunders, of course that doesn’t mean it’s easy to win as Nashiko found out lol. And I had a feeling this would lead into the next girl being introduced when they first found the server for their town, it is a bit weird she felt the need to seek out the girl who stomped her but I do look forward to seeing what this interaction will be like, as well as what kind of character this girl is.
@AkeZZZ I KNEW IT WAS BASED ON A REAL MOBILE GAME!!!! It was just WAAYYYY too detailed to not be based on an actual thing. Like, holy sh*t, that was a one-to-one comparison. Maybe they got sponsored by the app for this EP?
Anyways, good find!
Python is the best programming language ever. FIGHT ME!
so ep 2 was nashiko, ep 3 was pai and now ep 4 starts with izumi's turn to have a dream. or something
her dream doesnt actually have any tiles or auto table though, literally just rolling dice
idk why the song is suddenly stuck in my head. i havent really paid attention to the yootoob
if i remember correctly i think the 5th girl was seen in the preview last time.
also majsoul...by yostar. gee.
aaand only took them like 30s after the op ended to start talking about that. are they compensating for the lack of mahjong last ep?
i have no idea actually how the bots behave. i know theres like 3 games for saki (but those have powers and stuff so)
clearly there is some kind of, but how strong they are idk
me: whats a giga
apparently she used up all her internet playing online mahjong? i've never tried it on phone myself but i thought those stuff usually dont use too much internet. shrug
its funny because in a certain country there's an isp that straight up calls themself giga lol
like i'm not sure about the passage of time. riche says she's only available on weekends soo am i just supposed to assume a week passes between every ep? kinda funny since you know, anime
maybe its just me, because who knows. i've never heard anybody call their own father as just "otou" (and even then i think she might have said something different, but same thing)
one aspect of online mahjong is the timer. though generally most of them are FAIRLY lenient on their timer rules
i have to admit though, riche sounds overly close to riichi for my liking, its definitely a thing
its really hilarious though...they have a physical table but choose to play online
maybe i'm just old or new but. most people have like simple phones, but nowadays most modern phones have two or even three (or more?) cameras
its funny how they bring up that pai is a rare name. there are some rare names out there that havent been taken. but pai is only 3 letters long.
though i guess in japanese...well pai is still a short name even in japanese. japanese must be weird since most names are just a few kanji long, if your name is really compressed it can be squeezed into just two kanji, one for first and one for last name
it would be funny if the name was actually taken in real life, since you know. or just in general
surely nashiko cant possibly be that uncommon that nashiko can just take it? shrug
heh. idk if this is some kind of funneh moment. anyway, its ippatsu riche...except its actually riche ippatsu.
i think ippatsu riche sounds nicer, although well grammatically i suppose maybe its riche ippatsu? my japanese isnt good enough
nashiko saying "intelligence" is hilarious
wait so they're playing random matches?
also uhm....i dont remember how the rating system works in this game. i remember how tenhou's works but
...also are they literally using majsoul bgm? guys
ok soo its rigged and three of them all ended up together. but who's the 4th player? thats....awfully suspicious. i was thinking it would be rather uh, convenient if they somehow roped in another person liek this
its funny because idk if majsoul can tell if the players are in the same location but like..i mean cheating in online mahjong? i mean it requires players to actually be able to communicate but....
in mahjong the timer is mostly when, there are times when you really need to think or whatever but you just dont have the time
the funny thing is online has timer, but i think in real life tournaments they dont do a strict timer. funny isnt it
im curious how they animated this though. maybe there's a dev mode or something
also reminder that, esp nashiko, maybe the other two are a bit more experienced, but our girls are kinda like beginners. kinda
yeah the main so called upside is that the game does pause to allow you to call, in real life players just kinda go and you need to call pon before the next player draws
and the game wont let you chombo, which is convenient for players like nashiko that ACCIDENTALLY chombo
speaking of...has the bird disappeared? rip
also yes automatic point counting. it is kinda convenient isnt it.
nashiko almost got a flush again. she was just one tile from tenpai with some really hilarious discards.
kinda weird hand for 4th player to not declare riichi on. maybe for dramatics. or its like some gigabrain elite strategy that im too skrub to understand. she did draw the lower score though, if she had drawn a 4 that would have been tanyao for an extra yaku.
and if someone had discarded a 1 wan she would have been temporary furiten (i always forgor this is a thing) since she has no yaku to call. wait i think she has pinfu? oops.
its possible she was waiting to draw a 3 wan so she could change her wait into shanpon with an extra dora i guess. idk. maybe im overthinking this
pinfu and tsumo, one dora, 3 han 20 fu is 2600. despite being 3 han its not a very big hand
mahjong sessions can get pretty long, especially with renchans.
east only 4 rounds with no renchan is like...i dont actually remember the times very well, but maybe about 30-40 mins. east+south 8 rounds is almost certainly over an hour, and can drag past 2 hours too.
mathematically it can be counted, but my brain cant do the math right now. assume 10 seconds per turn, there's 136 tiles, the dead wall, and then the starting hands is 52 tiles, leaving about, 70 ish to draw, so about 10 mins per round sounds about normal ish
4th player had some hand, 8000 is a mangan, and nashiko being a beginner probably has very poor if not nonexistent defensive skills. looks like a tanyao with FOUR dora, one red and three normal
oh yeah, thats really a weird thing where because you need the 1k points to declare riichi nashiko cant riichi below 1k points.
and if she loses all her points the round just ends like that
speaking of the bird surprise bird
really though what is nashiko doing
aaand nashiko gets hit by a 12000 this time, wtf that was quick. seven pairs this time with 3 dora. looks like 4th player was the dealer, so it was a east mangan
but yeah its a bit weird 4th player name was "mk2"
it would be interesting to see experienced player. that being said well. there hasnt really been that much mahjong so far
also i forgor to mention, maybe its just me but i was never a huge fan of playing on the phone. desktop is ok though
ah a locality based thing eh?
also i completely forgor where they were because it wasnt a big deal. never knew. so they are in hiroshima? thats really far from tokyo i guess
rooms eh. also foolsmate is such a weird name
and this time it's 3 player mahjong because pai and izumi are resting
wow, riichi ippatsu tsumo with 2 dora. nashiko moment. its 3 player though so the scores are a little different from 4 player, as if we didnt have enough headache yet
also like..is it a hiroshima room? like how big is hiroshima? they could be really far away for all we know
riichi declared discarding west. nashiko had two west in her hand but she chose not to discard them and uh well she got hit by ippatsu ron
3 player mahjong is pretty volatile like that
riichi ippatsu, ipeikou, hatsu, one dora and half flush 8 han ouch. also apparently thats 24k? damn. even in four player 8 han is only 24k if dealer
so nashiko lost two more hands (67300 vs 6700) and then got knocked out by another hand. 4 in total (did riche win one in the mean time? huh. i wasnt paying attention to the score)
now pai and izumi is back
im actually kinda surprised, this entire episode has been almost entirely mahjong. and yet so little actual mahjong. well its ok i guess
aand foolsmate wins a mentanpin ippatsu tsumo, 4 han 20 fu 5200
really weird though, most people wouldnt discard a 7 on the first discard thats for sure. though maybe its normal
im still really confused whats going on?
also its funny because. i dont remember her name but the character avatar they use in majsoul, im pretty sure its voiced by uchida maya
otherwise uhm
its funny because
suddenly so much mahjong and im kinda overloaded. might have to rewatch this later. but overthinking the tiles is a bit uhm
Anyway so yeah that was a heavy, heavy episode. I wasnt expecting them to be going full hardcore mahjong the entire ep.
They're even skipping the ed
I mean we all saw the majsoul in the preview but uh.
The first half was one thing but crazy stuff happening in the second half, phew, I'm gonna need to rewatch this because my brain kinda burnt out towards the end.
Also looks like our 5th girl is quite literally knocking on our door...next episode.
The only downside is they have kinda seem to have given up on actually explaining the rules to people who dont know though
mahjong soul lol i played it for a couple hours years ago but too confusing :D
last girl is finally here
was she that mad that she lost one game? or is she just interested in meeting a strong player? since they are from the same region anyway
fav "new" girls from spring <3 ... click sig for older seasons and more possible picks
So we got a full episode of them playing mahjong soul ahaha, that's actually not bad, and seems like we're getting introduced to a new character who's skilled but still got beat by Riche hm
