So they are going to go the split personality cop-out to "redeem" Satoko in the end. Too bad because her having a truly bad and awful ending would have been awesome.
There's still a possibility that the evil personality simply wins, regular Satoko is gone [...].

With how much emphasis has been put on Satoko having to die after Rika to follow her through the shards, I suspect it'll simply end with Satoko dying first, thereby leading Rika to a world with the regular Satoko. Although this still leaves up the question of what becomes of "evil" Satoko as she'll still keep looping in her separate continuity, unless being killed first removes that power as well.

I assume this episode confirms Satoko loves Teppei more than her friends, her brother and Rika and all the people she massacred and traumatized in over 100+ years.

Interesting!
Rika is the one looping for 100+ years, Satoko is quite new to this with just a few loops she's gone though, unless I've missed something.

So it's not unimaginable that murdering someone who's going through a redemption arc is the breaking point.

Satoko is older than Rika due to having experienced all of Higurashi and having spent countless years of looping in preparation for this.

um, i'm still confused. ooishi's goal is to solve the mystery behind the curse.. how does framing teppei help him achieve that?

satoko's 2 sides fighting over the gun was such an important scene but they kept the subpar animation for it. such a shame. some frames literally look like they were drawn on MS paint

so killing mion invokes no emotional reaction but killing someone that used to abuse you is impossible for you, ok sure satoko.

i obviously love the witches side to WTC and the meta world etc etc. but im gonna try and interpret this more as a metaphor, that she's 'lost' the satoko she once was or whatever. having this be a psychological thing rather than an umineko witch thing is actually more interesting for some reason. higurashi is supposed to be real and focus on the psychology of characters so maybe that's why it was so jarring to see umineko witch metaphor bs being jammed in there.

satoko eventually 'losing herself' and having it be seemingly due to feeling some sort of way towards teppei is pretty interesting. it gives satoko as a character a bit of depth, was pretty unexpected since it was teppei of all people to make her crack, and yet also very in character for her, as we know she is very family-orientated and craves these bonds, always seeking family in people. i hate that i actually felt bad for teppei.

the bat scene was obviously very reminiscent of all the k1 bat scenes, even with the blood hitting the light and making it fly, wow. almost identical. i wonder why they made it look almost identical, and formed a comparison between her and k1..

out of everyone in the group who's killed in old fragments.. in some ways she's the most guilty since she's the only one who's killed without the almost supernatural effects of hinamizawa syndrome. in other ways she's the least guilty because it's kinda not actually /her/, if you take the old satoko being killed off literally. that kinda makes me feel at peace knowing that the brutal disembowelling that comes later on was kinda sorta technically not 'satoko'. this is a nice explanation for how and why it gets more brutal later on when she was already starting to feel bad this early on.

if the 'good' old satoko dying is to be taken literally then i guess this means a redemption is quite literally impossible unless some sort of supernatural meta world 'saving satoko' bs goes on. so i definitely sense another season coming, maybe with more umineko characters showing up? i hate this though

lastly, i really fucking hope this witch-satoko isn't lambda. i was excited seeing umineko references pop up here and there but if something so dumb is going to affect umineko lore i will riot

He makes him the perfect target for the "curse" of Oyashiro-sama. Then he will arrest the one that will try to kill him.

As for the witches in Umineko

It's... crazy, confusing...
What a turn of events.

How are there two Satokos? Did Satoko's action create a new personality? Damn I don't get it.

The whole concept of tossing aside our humanity, or losing apart of ourselves when we go off the deep end is a bit tiring, but nonetheless was not badly portrayed. But yea that part of us the regrets our bad decision is still there and won't ever leave, if only we could just kill off a part of us lolz.

Behold of my awesomeness~

"MAEBARA-san, naka naka yarimasu ne!" *muh..huh..hu...*

OISHI-San : You're proving to be a useful pawn for the culprits behind the curse. You're not half bad, MAEBARA-san.

"MAEBARA-san doesn't doubt for a second that he's doing the right thing."

Looks like TEPPEI's kindness is stirring up SATOKO's character. I like this.

"I don't know where I went wrong... but I went wrong somewhere!"

It seems pretty obvious to me that the "good Satoko" was a remnant of the non-looping Satoko of that shard, and not some inherent goodness left over in Satoko. The scene was intending to show Satoko killing her past.

IMO, that good Satoko is the inherent goodness left over and she split from the bad thanks to the genuine kindness and change shown by her uncle. I saw signs of doubts and cracks forming since the previous episodes. The evil Satoko needed that remnant to die or else her plan of possessing Rika will never be realized.

Anyway,

Oiishi always distrusted the village since the dam war and H173 magnified it even further. It's very interesting to see how his own vendetta against the village benefitted Satoko's plans to such an extent.

Very interesting development. From Keiichi's perspective it was the uncle attacking him during that frenzy.

that was depressing, i guess there's no room for redemption, unless you call her getting killed for trying to stop the witch her redemption. i really liked nice satako

I did not expect such a plot twist in the remaining episodes, though it was clear that Eua is manipulating Satoko. Seems like evil Satoko completely took over now.

Classic Jungian Shadow vs Self within Satoko.
The witch is just her Shadow and a Jungian archetype; it's everything she hates and ignores about herself turned into a persona.

It's honestly Satoko's fault for indulging her darker desires to the point where they gained more control over her than she did herself, but that was obvious from the get-go.
In Jungian terms, we dub that a "shadow possession." Think of it as letting all your darker desires take you over, almost like an out-of-control Freudian ID, but instead of being instinctual, it's just another side of you.

This is another way of explaining what's going on from a psychoanalytic standpoint.

As a rule of thumb, we generally become what we do; if you act like a monster, then expect to become one at some point. I have no pity for Satoko; she brought this upon herself and upon others of her selfish desire to impose her will on others.

She's an extremely well written character and I'm very entertained by her antics despite wanting her to lose

*Making dear friend Rika experience the most horrifying deaths imaginable*
Satoko: "I can keep doing this for another 100 years, Rika~"

*#1 piece of shit Teppei about to get shot*
Satoko: "No, evil me. Now is time to stooooop!!"

So... is this how they are gonna try to redeem Satoko's IRREDEEMABLE character? "Wait! It wasn't her who did all those awful atrocities to her friends. It was, in fact, the witch that was somehow forming within her the one who is at fault here."

Pure bullshit.

My feelings basically...
She was an "evil witch" before she even start looping.

THIS should have happened the FIRST TIME she tried to kill Rika, using a trap to make fall of a cliff like her parents or whatever you know... it's HER BFF she should have had trouble to kill her PERIOD. Not with her ABUSING uncle who BEAT her!

The writing of this show makes me cringe I swear URGH.
