Somebody says, "It's like the Family Guy of Anime!"... your reaction?
| I've heard this phrase uttered many times by people for many different random comedies, and it always just makes me cringe. You may be asking, "but... why? D:" Well, usually because half of those shows are better than Family Guy, and don't deserve to be compared to that flaming pile of trash that Seth MacFarlane is likely just using to keep food on the table at this point. Also, because I don't think I've seen a single Japanese animated comedy that is presented in a similar style to Family Guy... so the comparison is typically not very apt. What do you guys think of the phrase? Like it? Hate it? Comment below. |

| Those saying Gintama: for shame. Gintama is way more clever and classy than Family Guy, which is basically a glorified reference machine with a liberal helping of TMZ thrown in. Gintama more closely resembles early Simpsons on amphetamines than anything. From what I've heard about Excel Saga, it sounds like it might fit the bill better. |

| Have never heard that phrase used to describe an anime, and I have never seen a funny anime presented like Family Guy. Family Guy has gone downhill lately but the earlier seasons are always enjoyable! |
| I think Family Guy is pretty funny tbh. IMO, the only anime that actually makes me laugh as much as family guy is Gintama. I never cared much for anime humor since it's mostly girls hitting guys who did something pervy, or the normal guy overreacting to other characters doing or saying something stupid.(gintama has this too, but it makes up for it with it's other humor) Satire on politics tends to be funnier. |
