Sugar Apple Fairy Tale

In the kingdom of Highland, fairies lived freely until humans betrayed them. Once a fairy has been stripped of a wing, whoever possesses it holds the fairy's life in their hands. Taking advantage of this, humans enslaved fairies, but 15-year-old Ann Halford longs to see the day when fairies and humans are treated as equals.

The aspiring confectioner dreams of becoming a Silver Sugar Master just like her late mother. In order to achieve this lofty goal, Ann sets out for the capital of Lewiston, home to the annual Royal Candy Fair. However, to be bestowed the elusive title, Ann's confection crafted from silver sugar must be recognized with a royal medal at the event.

Ann hires a sharp-tongued warrior fairy, Shall Fen Shall, to be her bodyguard for the perilous journey ahead. After saving him from his cruel fairy trader, she promises to return Shall's wing to him once they reach the capital, much to his confusion. But as the pair travel further along, the time they spend together grows, and they learn more about each other and their true desires.

Didn't have high hopes for the series I don't typically like romance animes but... For an Anime involving sugar it isn't afraid to pack some of the most sour and bitter topics in consecutive back to back punches. I'm surpirsed how accurately this anime portrays not only power dynamics and the abuse that can sometimes be found in them but also sexism and other dark topics te main characters face on their journey. Very few times will you ever find me cussing out fictional characters... I can see how people disliked the ending of season 1 but given my stuborness history I am not ... deterred from going on to watch season 2.

I will only say this about season 2 that ending made everything climatic build up and struggle worth it!

Mixed Feelings

I needed something for noise while I worked and this anime did the trick but I didn't enjoy much of it. The constantly comments made by Shell about Ann's appearance that's going to change and morph into a beautiful woman. The romance didn't feel organic to me and it felt rushed and awkward. I think the problem with Shoujo is you definitely age out of it. Teenage me would've been chomping at the bit to eat this up but with adult eyes and no nostalgia behind it, this anime struggles to be memorable amongst a sea of similar shoujo's. Not horrible just not my thing. ... The age gap, slavery themes, lack of genuine plot.. I give is a 5 with hopes the issue is I'm just not the right target audience anymore like I once was.

This is a review of seasons 1 and 2

On today's exciting episode of "Shows I Watched Because of The Name"...

As the name implies, the setting, music, and visuals are all very whimsical and fairytale-esque. It had some cute moments here and there. However, I just found myself very bored throughout the majority of it. It wasn't AS boring as I thought it would be, but I just couldn't really latch onto anything that was going on at any point within this story. Had a lot of lame running gags that I didn't care for, such as characters calling each other nicknames that they don't like ... and having them get mad over and over. A LOT of storylines involving deception that wouldn't have happened if anyone was rational enough to talk things through or even just think for 5 seconds before jumping to conclusions. Overall just a very whatever show that mainly served as background noise.

4.5/10

Also the award for "Worst anime character I've met this year" goes to Jonas. And I watched SCHOOL DAYS this year!
