Isekai Yakkyoku

World-class medical researcher Kanji Yakutani lost his little sister to a tumor years ago due to ineffective treatment. To honor her legacy, he has dedicated his research to developing new medications for such conditions. But as fate would have it, he overworks himself and passes away at the age of 31, only to be given a second chance at life in another world.

When he wakes up, Kanji finds himself in the body of a 10-year-old boy named Falma de Médicis, the son of an esteemed family of medical practitioners in the Sain Fleuve Empire. Bearing the mark of a deity's divine blessing, Falma is capable of performing a unique divine art, allowing him to create and reduce any substance with the knowledge of its chemical properties.

After reading through some pharmacology books, Falma realizes that this world is operating on similar medical practices as in ancient times. He also learns that medicine is an exclusive privilege to the nobility, depriving commoners of proper medical care. Using the knowledge from his past life and the divine abilities granted to him, Falma resolves to make medicine available to those who need it—irrespective of class.

Pretty good. A middle aged, very smart pharmaceutist and a research lab worker gets sent to a medieval fantasy world where he replaces the son of an archduke, who is also a brilliant medicine man. On top of it he gets OP magical powers. And yeah, his name is Farma Medicis. Very clever...

There is quite a bit of drama in the first few episodes about his new found powers and knowledge and I really liked the realistic attitude of the people around him. Especially the father. The man is really likeable. Which will be a common theme as there is really only one bad person ... in the whole show and he appears only at the end. Which is my biggest gripe with it. It's just too perfect. People are nice, polite, friendly and even those that aren't outwardly so, are still good on the inside.

Early into the anime the MC befriends the head of the country, because obviously, which also gives him OP political and financial powers, which makes him pretty much socially untouchable and he becomes the go-to person with anything sickness related. (I'm sick so I found all the interactions between them super enticing as I was imagining this powerful woman to be an unredeemable cougar towards our shota protagonist.) Also cosmetically related. Because again, obviously, we can't have an isekai without a Japanese person getting rich off selling shampoo.

Anyway. There is also some touching and well written parts, like the father-daughter plot line which made me shed a tear, some drama related to religion, and at the end we get a big bad guy causing chaos. The last part was really disappointing. The stakes suddenly became way too big as until now we've been treating only common ailments, if barely any at all, and now the whole world is about to crumble and our protagonist is at the centre of it. I guess the creators wanted a big dramatic sendoff, but it doesn't fit in at all. It all felt rushed, ridiculous and bored me out of my mind to the point I was skipping though parts.

So yeah. Pretty good. 6.5/10. Don't expect too much.

Mixed Feelings

Parallel World Pharmacy follows Kanji Yakutani, a modern-day pharmacologist who passes away from stress and overwork. Reborn in a fantasy world as Falma de Medicis, the second son of Bruno, a famous pharmacist, he decides to use his knowledge of modern pharmaceutical treatments to save the sick regardless of their social status or financial means. How does Falma's journey unfold?

Story & Character: 6/10
The story starts with an intriguing premise of a child utilizing his modern pharmaceutical knowledge in a medieval fantasy setting. While initially inspiring, the narrative lacks significant conflict or resistance; society readily conforms to Falma's advancements, easily abandoning traditional folk medicine. The story ... peaks with a drawn-out, avoidable epidemic and a poorly articulated antagonist. The buildup and execution were enjoyable until it attempted to become too serious with an antagonist who seems to be the only malevolent individual in an entire kingdom.

Falma is a decent character, but he seems overly accepting of his situations. He often chooses to act passively, allowing the story to progress against him. This passivity makes his competitors more aggressive, highlighting his frailty and vulnerability. His facade is frustrating as he continually attracts minor antagonists. The supporting characters feel artificially submissive to Falma, becoming more one-dimensional as the series progresses. However, character development is decent, given the varied social statuses and involvement of different characters with Falma.

Art & Sound: 5/10
The art is mediocre by modern anime standards, with simple character designs and scenery. Fight scene animations are choppy, and character proportions inconsistently shift even during dialogue. Character designs are basic but passable; the naval military and religious faction knights are notably more detailed compared to the rest.

Sound design is surface-level, with music and sound effects fulfilling their obvious roles without much innovation. Voice acting is decent by modern standards, feeling professional but not exceptional.

Overall & Enjoyment: 5/10
If this series maintained a more cohesive business model for its pharmaceutical store and a more relaxed narrative, it would have been rated better. It attempts to resolve loose ends by creating an unnecessary antagonist. The lack of loss and grief makes the series overly optimistic, and the conflicts lack substance, offering little resistance or depth to the story and character development. Despite these critiques, it was an entertaining watch, and it was enjoyable to see the protagonist running a business using modern pharmaceutical practices.

Early episodes were good. Unfortunately, the quality and pacing decreased as the show continued, leading to an ending which felt rushed and cliched.

At the start, the show looked promising. It had good, correct scientific detail and an interesting premise. Although episode 1 felt quite exposition-heavy at first, it got up to speed and quickly became pretty fun.

However, pacing became an issue later in the show. The final episodes introduced lots of things from nowhere, and the victory achieved felt hollow and unearned. Plot holes and underutilized character abilities also plagued this show, it felt like the characters had a worse memory of what their abilities ... were than I did as the viewer.

Overall, I can't recommend this show. Although you may like the show initially, I don't think it's likely to last throughout.
