First of all, I've never actually watched the series Rurouni Kenshin, so everything I write is from a blank slate perspective. :)

Story- This was really beautiful and sad. The plot idea of an assassin who no longer likes being an assassin, though already done, was completely remastered and thought out in a unique fashion. I was completely enthralled from the beginning and wasn't completely sure where everything was going to turn out. I like the fact that they seemed to write this so that somebody who hasn't seen the show could understand and be emmersed. I could definitely see this as a stand alone.

Art- Sometimes ...

I have a confession to make: I've never seen Rurouni Kenshin. I've known of its existence for a long time, but I haven't seen the 90 episode anime. I did see one episode of it dubbed, but that was because my college anime club showed it for historical fiction week, along with three other shows. It never interested me, and in a way it still doesn't interest me now. I don't think I can commit myself to a 90 episode anime, especially if its full of pointless filler. But one of my favorite bloggers was praising this up the wazoo and said that I didn't ...

Wow where to begin. This is an amazing anime movie all around. And one of my all time favs! A story about an orphan kid who gets picked up by a samurai master and taught the ways of the sword. A fictional story based on actual Japanese history. Nothing bad to say about it. So I'll give you some reasons to watch it.

I wish I could have seen this movie before the TV series. This is a wonderful start to a long story. The story is so in depth with it's characters. You cant get help but get sucked in. Action & ...

This is, without doubt, one of my favorite pieces of animated work. It can be enjoyed equally by anime fans and non-anime fans alike, and it is probably one of the best ways to introduce anime to a skeptic or novice. This show covers deep, powerful themes of love and war, is moving, and has interesting, complex, relatable characters.

This is a prequel to the Rurouni Kenshin TV series, but it can be watched independently, though I would say watching the first two seasons of the TV series will make the experience of watching the OVA better.

Story
The story shows how Kenshin evolves from an ...

I am going to start this review with a little history lesson; I apologize for the digression. If you want you can skip it and read the review only, but I humbly request you to read it.

2300 years ago, a man called Ashoka ascended the throne of the Mauryan Empire in India; he was a vile person, had committed many flagitious deeds, and was especially fond of torturing his enemies in a specially built palace.

8 years after his coronation, he waged war against the kingdom of Kalinga, one of the few regions that were free from the yoke of the subcontinent-spanning Mauryan Empire; a ...

( PROPER MINDSET )

A good show needs to present and develop the themes and the characters in a subtle way, this way it will make everything more fluid and enjoyable as it feels much more natural

STORY:
Oh yes Samurai X, a show about fate, redemption and acceptance, a show to reflect over and deeply love.
For someone who grow up watching the Transvestite that is the Samurai X 94 eps series, I say this because the manga is much better and DEEN likes to murder good Manga by not covering it correctly, I was much pleased by this 4 eps OVA by the name of ...

I've seen all sorts of anime of different genres, but it's not often I come across one like this. To sum it up, I liked the smooth animation, the serious tone, the fact that there's no humour attempted, and that it wasn't boring.

The story reveals Kenshin's past, which any fan of the series would probably be interested in. I just rewatched these OVAs after several years without reacquainting myself with the series and found this stands on its own just fine. For those that don't know Kenshin, you'll find some kickass samurai action here along with a tragic plot.
The story is rather fast ...

I watched Kenshin years ago, for whatever reason, I never ended up watching Tsuiokuhen, which was a big mistake, as it's a very good OVA that explains the events which inevitably led to Kenshin being who he is in the anime itself.

Tsuiokuhen is short, and almost inexcusable to watch if you've seen the main Kenshin anime. With only 4 episodes, it merely takes up a few hours to watch, and it's well worth the experience.

The OVA is separated into "acts". Acts I and II are based a lot around the politics of the era, as well as the fighting. I watched this subbed, and I ...

Rurouni Kenshin is a fairly well known anime from the mid to late 90s. Studio Gallop began work on it, doing roughly two thirds of it and it was finished by Studio Deen. In spite of its popularity, I haven't seen it. What we're looking at today is an OVA from the tail end of the 90s by Studio Deen, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan- Tsuiokuhen. Fortunately, it's a prequel. As such, no one can really complain that my lack of familiarity with the series proper means that I'm missing important details.

Story:

Our narrative opens with a group of people marching. You don't know where they're ...

I can only attribute that the work of studio deen is really not as bad as we thought and that's who proved us with this ova which became an instant classic

really I am impressed by the work behind visually it is magnificent breathtaking never seen such an irreproachable quality I want to say that I am really passionate about the edo era especially since I watched gintama which allowed me to learn more about this dense, hollow and cold period.

next, kenshin and tomoe are probably the most adorable and mysterious couple i have seen in a while. tomoe touched and impacted me enormously during my ...

In my interesting way of thinking, I count all OVA parts of a show as if it was one big show. This part of Rurouni Kenshin will be in my mind part of the same show as actual Rurouni Kenshin and the OVA series after that. If only the site allowed me to grade it all as a whole when I finish but that won't happen and I understand the reason of course. I must say I enjoyed this to no end and I can see why it is ranked so damn high on this site, it was phenomenal.

Story- The story was soooo complex and ...

They took the darkest arc in Rurouni Kenshin, took out all the jokes that author put in there to soften it a little bit and honed all the dark points so that they gleamed with crimson colour on the edge of the blade.
Animation fidelity is outstanding. It made me to look back at how rarely I see such quality.

A rare occasion when an adaptation exceeds the source material.

I don’t really have much to say except that it makes the original show look like pussy shit in comparison to this. In fact it might be better than the entirety of the original show. Yeah, I’m not kidding. This is violent, tragic, and beautiful. I was literally in silence watching this because if I started taking notes on what I liked and didn't like, I feel like I would be ruining the experience. So I gave this OVA my undivided attention the entire way through.

Really the only issue I have is I wish I saw this first before I watched the original show. ...

The light-hearted tone of Rurouni Kenshin (the original Shounen series) is jettisoned for a solemn samurai OVA, with no shortage of emotional anguish, or macabre-ladened combat. The juxtaposition can be a bit jarring, but the elimination of tired tropes, and the depiction of realism is a breath of fresh air. While the plot, at times, progress’s in a gradual fashion, no scene feels unneeded, nor superfluous to the essence of the overall story. Every moment builds constructively from the last, forming a beautiful narrative about the harshness of war, love, and friendship.

Kenshin Himura, also known as The Battousai (The Manslayer), decides to ...

Even though the storyline deviated from the manga a little, it was still well done. Of course, the artwork in this OVA was superb. However, I had a hard time deciding whether the subbed or the dubbed version was better. In my opinion, the voice actors in the dubbed version sounded a whole lot better, but the quality of the dubbed version was hampered by the actors’ mispronunciation of Japanese words, and in some cases, mistranslations. The good news though is that the mistranslations didn't change the overall storyline. The mispronunciation of Japanese words occurred frequently, especially with “key-words” ...

The words "magnum opus" are a latinism that stands for something socially accepted as "the best of the best" or "among the greatest achievements of humanity". We all have heard something being called a "magnum opus": when we talk about architecture or tourism, everyone recognizes the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal or the Mount Rushmore to be the best examples of beauty and perfection. Talking about music, I could say that Death is close from being the pinnacle of extreme music, or if we refer to cinema, Blade Runner being one of the most underrated but great movies of all time. So well, what Studio ...

This 4 episode prequel reveals a weighty depth in Kenshin's past that was never achieved through the long and blithe 94 episode main series. It is only in the the darkest ravine where light can shine with its brightest color and beauty. In the same way, this story about Kenshin lusters as a masterpiece because it accentuates the brilliance of romance and life in the darkness of bitterness and death.

The stability of Meiji era seen in the mellow main series of Ruroni Kenshin was founded only after a warring period of political strife and economic crisis: civilians were impoverished, bloodshed was commonplace, and assassins were ...

Disclaimer: This review of Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan – Tsuiokuhen (hell of a title), is just my opinion of the show. It was formed after watching it and I would encourage you all to do the same and form you own. The written word is powerful but not to be taken as truth without question. I will also keep this as spoiler free as I can so with that out of the way let us begin.

Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X as it is known in English is a somewhat classic anime from way back in the 1990’s. It was about a swordsman named ...

The first two episodes of these ova are great. We see Kenshin’s origins and the beginning of the revolution but most important we learn of Kenshins’s tragic past. Animation wise it looks great, the soundtrack is also very good. But my recommendation is to see the series first, this way you will understand who some of these characters are. The last two episodes are the conclusion to the Rurouni Kenshin saga and in my opinion a very good finale for the series. But the thing of these two last episodes is that it feels more like a summary of the whole series than an ...

Of well first off i havent ever seen a shonen anime that has been developed so much, then an excellent OVA. I never actually got why this could happen. For one the story is the best ive seen, everything about it is just that good. The characters are great, Kenshin as the battosai, the shinsengumi, Tomoe, and Enishi. To see all these things are just almost wierd. Because its so much different. Enishi as a kid, then Kenshin is a top assasin who randomly switches to "oro?" in the series. So a lot of its almost different to see. The action involved in it is ...
