Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen

Substitute Soul Reaper Ichigo Kurosaki spends his days fighting against Hollows, dangerous evil spirits that threaten Karakura Town. Ichigo carries out his quest with his closest allies: Orihime Inoue, his childhood friend with a talent for healing; Yasutora Sado, his high school classmate with superhuman strength; and Uryuu Ishida, Ichigo's Quincy rival.

Ichigo's vigilante routine is disrupted by the sudden appearance of Asguiaro Ebern, a dangerous Arrancar who heralds the return of Yhwach, an ancient Quincy king. Yhwach seeks to reignite the historic blood feud between Soul Reaper and Quincy, and he sets his sights on erasing both the human world and the Soul Society for good.

Yhwach launches a two-pronged invasion into both the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, the home of Hollows and Arrancar. In retaliation, Ichigo and his friends must fight alongside old allies and enemies alike to end Yhwach's campaign of carnage before the world itself comes to an end.

I am so very happy with this Anime i could grin from ear to ear.

The original Bleach whilst not terrible was far to slow. The fights took a decade to complete and they didn't feel satisfying as they didn't feel like they had any consequences. I feel this made the original quite the slog to get through. Especially someone who watched bleach for the first time only a few years ago. Maybe it's simply due to it aging poorly however this improved upon the original in every way imaginable.

The fights in this Anime look great in terms of animation quality and i also ... believe they're far more interesting as a result of a faster pace. This Season perfectly shows how you can tell a big story in a faster pace as the original. The original (if it told the same story) would have dragged and probably made these thirteen episodes last fifty or possibly sixty episodes. I'm so happy with this more modern approach to the Anime. I have also failed to yet mention how there are real consequences felt within this season. Now i will not spoilt anything, but if you have seen the original i believe this will make you so happy. The only part that the original does almost as well i believe is the story. However this season handles it better with a quicker pace. The issue in the original was it was far too dragged out.

I must also mention how the villains feel great and their threat feels real. I am also shocked at how graphic it can be. Now it isn't anything i would consider truly Gorey. That being said it doesn't need to be. This season perfectly shows the brutal nature of attacks with a fair amount of blood and body parts being dismembered. If you are reading this and haven't seen the Anime please do not watch this if my words have made you believe it is extremely gory as it is not. But compared to the original i have far more interest in the effects of attacks and the consequences of their outcomes. The gore i also believe is perfect how it is this season. There is no need for it to get more adult at all. I'm very impressed with the team behind this revival of Bleach.

Overall i think this is definitely a recommendation from me. That being said you of course should know the story of the original before coming to this which is a sad requirement to truly get the most out of this Anime i believe.

If you're not familiar with Bleach and you're wondering if this show is actually good: it's not.
"Why is it ranked so high then?" I hear you ask, quite simply because the Bleach fandom is hyped that the show is back and are massively hypevoting it.

Both seasons of this new Bleach have great animation, and that's about it. If you're familiar with Bleach you might get some enjoyment from seeing all your favourite characters again. However in terms of story or dialogue this show is atrocious. In truth this show is really just an excuse to animate some cool fight scenes.

Sadly almost all fights in this ... show follow the exact same pattern: a good guy uses a power, the opponent goes "nani?!", the good guy then explains the entire extend of their power (which is incredibly dumb), which the opponents then completely counters with their own power after understanding the ability. The opponent powers up and uses a new ability, the good guy goes "nani?!" and then the opponent explains their power, which the good guy then counters with their new power (or they get help from a friend). That's basically every fight in this show. It's laughably terrible how after literally every attack a character is compelled to explain what they just did.

if you're not a Bleach fan, and you actually care about story this show is a hard skip.
If you either like Bleach or cool action scenes give it a try I suppose.

THE MOST OVERRATED ANIME ON MYANIMELIST.

FUCKING SHEEPLE!!!

Are you guys serious?! This is the 9th best anime ever made?! How much nostalgia cocaine did you snort before hitting that 10/10 selector?!?! This is why corporations keep making mediocre remakes of old shows, movies, and books! Fans rush to spread their wallets wide open at the first sign of anything that has a decent adaptation. Yes, this adaptation is good—amazing even. I'm shocked that Studio Pierrot could produce something this good! But that doesn't change the fact that it's still Bleach.
This season of Bleach is good. I enjoyed it a lot, and there were even a ... couple of episodes that gave me chills. It easily has the best animation and fights in the entire series. So why am I writing a negative review? Because I'm infinitely disappointed in the community for overrating it.

It's still Bleach characters we're talking about. This season introduced a living, breathing stereotype and several generic "OP" characters who were never hinted at before. These characters just appeared out of nowhere, undermining all the tension Yhwach established by killing Genryusai. All the suspense, gone in an instant.

Squad Zero gets a 1/5.

Kurosaki is a typical shounen protagonist, just like all before him and since. Nothing special, just a lot of screaming and serving as a plot device. At least Orihime had minimal screen time this season; I couldn't handle seeing more of her.

The main characters get a 1/5.

I loved Kenpachi vs. Kenpachi. I've always wanted to see a character who suppresses his power to match his opponents and another who heals enemies to keep fighting. This was a bucket list wish of mine that got fulfilled. Easily the second-best part of the season.

The Kenpachis get a 5/5.

Genryusai's impact on the series can't be overstated. Powerful old men in anime are always compelling, and he's no exception. Loved his fight.

The Ishida and Kurosaki family flashback was interesting. While I still don't like how Ichigo is portrayed as the genetic god of the universe, the flashback made sense and was nice to see.

Don't get me started on the comedy. Bleach has the worst of the stupid shounen comedy these authors always try their hand at 1/5.
The genetic/generic backstory gets a 3/5.
The animation and art are both outstanding, easily a 10/10.

The sound, including the opening and ending themes, is a 3/10. Bleach has some of the worst shounen music. I'd rather listen to Fairy Tail's soundtrack.

I don’t recommend watching the previous 366-episode season just because this season has an absurdly high rating. This rating is an anomaly caused by fans who are starved for content and overly eager to praise their favorite series. This is a good anime but it's not "Top 10 all time" like these clowns would have you believe.
