Both shows have similar character designs, even though the personalities in the show are very different. Also, both have themes that follow mental illness and trauma. However, School Days focuses more on romance while Myself ; Yourself seems to focus more on character relationships. There were just many times during Myself ; Yourself that reminded me of School Days, even though their plots are different.
The story kinda reminded me of School Days. The beginning seems more happy and the ends gets dark. If you understand, I would say that School Days is darker than Myself ; Yourself.
They both start out seeming like your typical anime full of drama and revolving around school but you realize that it isnt your typical anime very early into the series. Both animes have a very dark background and there are always traces of something more sinister lurking around. Both uses forshadowing very well. I personally enjoyed Myself;Yourself more then School Days though.
Both series start off as seemingly innocuous, unassuming, slightly awkward high school harem-ish romantic comedy series but spend the last few episdoes kicking the drama and insanity up to eleven and careening out of control. One gets a hold of itself and pulls together a happy ending; the other... not so much.
Similar characters, similar storyline, similar style. Both animes have similar aspects in one way or another. They both have a sort of "love-trangle" type story, and have a slightly horror-ish vibe to them with eerie scenes. Both seemignly sweet animes, then slowly getting darker and more emotional as the story goes on. You can really feel the characters emotions throughout the animes, and it's very easy to imagine yourself in their shoes. They can make you feel happy, sad, angry, and just about any other mixture of emotions, so you'll never really know what to expect with how you'll feel after you've watched them.
Both turn kind of dark about halfway in.
The difference is, Myself;Yourself pretty much has a happy ending, while School Days...well...doesn't.
Many moments in Myself;Yourself just reminded me of School Days.
Both start out very light hearted school based romances with lots of drama which quickly turn much more dark, and both have simlar art and have a clueless male lead(In Myself;Yourself he just isn't told what is happening but in School days he just is oblivious to everything).Differences are Myself;Yourself isn't a harem and actually has likeable charcthers.
Similar art, character designs, and narrative flow: a seemingly innocent and at first glance generic school slice-of-life makes a name for itself by quickly becoming unpredictable and making use of shocking and unsettling but unique drama.
If you hated School Days, don't disregard Myself ; Yourself just yet. To become as f'd up as possible, School Days attempts to evoke feelings of loathing from the viewer; conversely, Myself ; Yourself attempts to evoke feelings of solicitude. This difference eliminates from Myself ; Yourself the primary element that creates such extreme contempt for School Days because the audience is actually intended to like the characters of Myself ; Yourself. read more
Literally the same school, romance, drama + fxcked up twist(s) scenario.
This is bout as close as youre gonna get to School Days in an anime...
Though still not as good =
School Days is really one of a kind and will leave a void in your life if youre like me and you really enjoyed it.
Art styles and genres are quite similar. Myself; Yourself focuses more on Character Development, while School Days on Romance.
WARNING: If you don't like horrific endings, do not proceed on watching School Days...
Both shows have a main character who is returning to a town that they lived in as a child, and are both slowly remembering events that happened there when they were children.
- Both have a main character who has returned to a town they lived in as a younger kid (although the main Character has forgot what happened there)
- Both revolve around the emotions and past of other characters
- both are emotional (although I'd say that Kanon is more emotional)
Well similar plot line is one point. Lead male returning to the town once he lived in. Reuniting with his childhood friends who now have miserable lives. Plus both stories have characters that suffer from amnesia. There's nice amount of drama in both shows. The Kanon male lead is much interesting compared to his counterpart in myself yourself. :D
Anyway, if you liked Kanon then Myself;yourself would be a nice time-pass.
Kanon 2006 is basically a better version of Myself; Yourself.
First, we have a highschool main character that has returned home after leaving as a child.
We have lighthearted, romantic side-stories that keep the show interesting. This series was animated by none other than Kyoto animation: THE studio for highschool romcoms. If you liked that aspect of Myself; Yourself, you'll love it in this anime.
We have drama. Kanon has 20-something episodes and M;Y has 13. You do the math. The viewer gets to spend more time with the characters which is something that I feel like Myself; Yourself was lacking.
Might I mention that there is a recurring theme of snow in Kanon that makes it stand out as something unique among other anime.
In conclusion, Kanon is to Myself; Yourself as Clannad is to Angel Beats. It's just better in every aspect and if you liked M;Y, I GUARANTEE you will like Kanon. read more
The main protagonist of both shows leave their home towns as children only to return a couple of years later in High school. Both regain their memories of their past lives as the shows progress and both reunite with their childhood friends.
There are some good drama scenes in both shows and an average romance to go along with it.
I liked the art of Myself; yourself better, with more different locations and colours. Kanon on the other hand is 11 episodes longer than myself; yourself, giving time for the character developments of more characters.
Kanon is a bit more of a harem than myself; yourself, but I am sure that if you liked the feel of the one show you will also like the feel of the other.  read more
Both stories have the theme of "guy returns to his hometown after years of absence". The protagonists rekindle friendships, and live their old-new lives.
Both are high school stories from the 2000s with the good ole' repeating theme of appearing at first as romance stories, but they're actually giant past tragedy stories that are like huge blisters on the feet that just pop one by one.
During the shows, the characters begin to reveal their awful pasts and tragedies.
These two romance series presents to the viewer likable characters and cute moments. Both are currently airing in the 2007 fall season and have male leads who look similar to one another.
At first, it looks like a school slice of life with a bit of romance and harem, but in the end it ends up beind SO much more than that. Both reach a certain depth in predestined relationships, even if the show doesn't focus on it.
well, the biggest similarity between that TV series is that both of them are treating about *school times*, so you know - in general school, friends, boyfriends&girlfriends, first love, family, intrests etc.
but in my opinion 'Myself;Yourself' has a more mature attitude to these issues and shows the life of teenagers which is not always as colorful as somebody might think. That anime have a deep insight into serious youth's problems, such as difficult past or family conflicts, which are sometimes downgraded by other productions. The plot stays in your mind and makes you think. moreover, it's well-done and watching is a great pleasure! I would recommend it for everybody - the anime has only 13 episodes, but it's really worth watching. I guess that's currently my fav ;)
'Clannad' was more like a pure entertainment for me - makes you really relaxed ;)! the biggest advantage of that series is a great sense of humour - it really makes you laugh outloud at times ^_- Dialogues are great and characteres very nice, especially Tomoya-kun ^^. but if you are 'anime obsessed ' and usually prefer sth which forces you to think about various issues , you may be disappointed and bored at times.  read more
Slice of life, Romance mixed with side stories for each individual characters. Both animes are tear tearjerkers and very sweet dramas, Myself, Yourself has a much happier ending though.
Both are Harem style anime dealing with love, drama, comedy and friendship between teens but have their own unique tastes which make them good. Both animes have their share of tender and sad romantic moments.
Both are high school stories from the 2000s with the good ole' repeating theme of appearing at first as romance stories, but they're actually giant past tragedy stories that are like huge blisters on the feet that just pop one by one.
During the shows, the characters begin to reveal their awful pasts and tragedies.
At first, it looks like a school slice of life with a bit of romance and harem, but in the end it ends up beind SO much more than that. Both reach a certain depth in predestined relationships, even if the show doesn't focus on it.
real life romantic drama with thick plots which will have you on the edge of your seats waiting for what happens next. i couldnt stop watching them once i started.
One of the main girls in ef and the main one in m;y are depressed and have an avoidant personality.
Also, both are adapted from visual novels.
Both have a teenage cast in a small-town setting, except ef was set in both Australia and Japan, which gave it the aesthetic upper hand plus shaft's visuals and the colour template being richer.
Both animes have a simular feel to it. As soon as I started watching Myself; Yourself it reminded me of H2O. They both have a quite simular storyline, though it's still different enough to make it original. If you liked one, you'll probably like the other one as well!
Both have around 13 episodes! lol kidding. Both have touchy romance, they don't have stupid ecchi and they're bound to leave a long-lasting impression on your mind with the good looking characters, friendship, the love and the soundtracks. If you're a fan of teh romance genre, this one's a must-watch for you.
I think that "Myself: Yourself" is quite similar to "H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~". Both start with guy coming to town and meeting the girls. Also in the beginning we see ecchi on both anime. Hayami ("H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~") and Nanaka ("Myself: Yourself") have similar characters and changes their personalities because of fire. Voice actress of Nanaka also voiced Takuma ("H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~"). Both Sana ("Myself: Yourself") and Takuma have sad past before coming to the town. But in my opinion "Myself: Yourself" is a little darker than "H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~", but both turn really depressing towards the end. read more
The female leads in the stories seem to be in a very similar state of mind when meeting the male leads. These two stories in particular are as if they are shoes of the same pair.
Both start out as your normal mediocre harem anime for a good amount of it... But then, in the last five episodes, all of the sudden everything gets really dark and twisted, with pasts revealed and several plot twists! No more harem fluff, just drama! However, they both have good ends though (well, barely in H2O). Oh, and the main female lead is tsundere! And has a dark past! The male lead also has a dark past in there somewhere too!
If you loved clannad you'll also like myself yourself. Because both of these anime series have similar drawings, sad background stories of characters and hopeful expectations from the future and a big romance
These are both tragic love stories, and both have a happy ending in them. Not only that but its comedic just like clannad was (well in the beggining xP). Myself; Yourself AND clannad, are my 2 favorite animes hands down.
Both anime show the pain and hardship that had to be endured during the relationship. Both has a bit of comedy in it. Clannad is a bit more dramatic and imo clannad does a better job of making you feel the emotion but both anime taught me a lot.
Both Have a strong cast of characters, a cheery start with a somewhat misleading OP, deep development among all characters, and both will certainly terrorize you emotionally to some level. Watch at you're own discretion.
They both involve a somewhat large cast of students dealing with their own issues. It seems like your typical harem judging by the profile of the anime, but there's a lot more behind that
Myself;Yourself and Clannad: After Story lean towards the depressing side yet the animes & their plots are very enjoyable from the beginning until the end
Main character returns to the town he lived in as a child and finds people he knew from back then. Both are dark and gloomy anime and have a feeling of mystery about them.
YnS main plot and M;Y side/subplot are similar in that they deal with incest. Both anime tell the story/arc near the end of their season. Where YnS deals with both MC, M;Y is focused on the "supporting IMO" BroSis. Both anime leave an open ending where both respective siblings move out of the country after a taboo/scandal respectively was found out by the locals, YnS was voluntarily while M;Y was forced.
Both have the "nostalgia" thing going for them with the plot jumping back in forth from past to present. Both also have something happen in the past that has caused the characters to change somehow through the years
If you enjoyed the friendship aspect of the characters in one anime, I recommend the other. Both shows have the theme of a group of childhood friends reuniting after a long time. While I think Myself; Yourself deals with a few darker aspects (and although one show is a few years older than the other), overcoming past quarrels/issues to reunite and rediscover old friendship bonds is prevalent in both anime - as well as they can both be considered emotional, slice-of-life, short anime series with a pinch of romance that have made at least someone out there shed a few unexpected tears.
Both of them are about a group of friends that used to meet when they were younger and after some time that they split off by some reason. Then when they're teeangers, start hanging up again and they realized that some of them have some black past , that are trying to fight with....
Both are about a group of childhood friends who lost one member(In Myself;Yourself he moved while in Ano Hana he died),and now they have returned and reunited with their friends only to find they have changed and both are drama-romances.Ano Hana has a supernatural twist while Myself;Yourself is much more dark.
Realism is one of the many themes you will see in both of these series.
But beyond that, both anime(s) focuses on the characters on what they try to become as the episodes progresses.
Then of course, there is drama, comedy (less so in later episodes), emotional scenes, and romance mixed with various misunderstandings. Ultimately both series reflects the more emotional and sadder side of a romance story.
Myself ; Yourself has the same dramatic feelings as True Tears. Both anime are also in the same genres. I enjoyed both of them, and while Myself ; Yourself's story was different than True Tears's, it reminded me of the other. If you liked one you should definitely try the other one.
Both of Myself ; yourself And True tears give you an atmosphere of romance and drama, wich makes your heart break into a little pieces.
But the characters personality are little bit different, 'cause in myself ; yourself don't include harem although true tears including it.
There is also comedy themes mixed with romance fact that makes both of the shows more interesting.
Both anime's character design is similar and both gives same vibes. Sweet love story between both anime's characters and heart warming anime. Myself; Yourself is very similar to true tears, you should go for it if you like true tears.
- both are sad dramas ( kimi ga nozumu eien felt a tad bit sadder)
-have a school theme
- have a romance genre
-love triangles involved
-main character has gone through some sort of traumatizing event in the past
- includes a timeskip at the very beggining of the series, characters are shown to have a drastic change in character( nanaka in myselfyourself and akane in kimi ga nozumu eien)
While Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is more about a love triangle and Myself;Yourself has a harem façade, both deal brilliantly with how everyday life can become harsh when 'love' is involved.
They also share a unique depressive mood that makes them so delectable to watch.
Both shows focus on a MC returning to a town he left years ago and he returns and reunites with his old friends only to find out things aren't the same as before
Both series contain the theme of moving to a new place and making friends. However, the past comes back as old friends rekindle and circumstances are set. These 2 series both takes place at school, involves drama, romance, and a few misunderstandings.
the main male character comes back to a town he used to be in without his parents, and then sees friends he has made during his time there, he gets appointed to a management role in the school, he also finds love there.
In both, the main girl from the harem (and also, the one that the M/C has feelings for), is in "denial" at first.Acts like a kundere, but in the end she shows her real side.
Both anime series are based off visual novels. The main male protagonist in both series gets involved with other characters including his childhood friend.
In both series, there is comedy, drama, and romance. The drama is more dramatic in Myself;Yourself but also presented in LB in various arcs.
Both series takes place at a local school setting in a lighthearted environment. There is fun also at times, emotional moments.
Both stories are about childhood friends. In LB the friends have been together their whole lives, in M;Y the main character returns to the town he lived in as a child. If you like LB or especially Kanon you most likely enjoy M;Y and vise versa. Both shows leave you in a happy mood. They also teach you about one of the strongest things ever, the bond of friendship
Myself; Yourself failed to pack comedy along with it but have really intense relationship build-up throughout its 12 episodes, unlike toradora's 26 episodes length. The tension in the "atmosphere" for Myself; Yourself builds up real quick and carries on long, whereas for Toradora!, it builds up really late, like the last one-third of the story. But overall, both are really good and worth watching!
Myself;Yourself and Golden Time take place in a school-life setting with drama and romance. The main male protagonists have a history with their childhood friend. Some of those memories aren't very pleasant and resurface in present time from where the story takes place.
Both series' main female protagonists contrast with another but both start to grow feelings for the MC. There's also other characters that get involved with the story, influencing it.
myself is more drama and slice of life, whilst sola has more action and a bit of magic, but both start off with a hint of comedy but turn out to be dark and mind-blowing.
These are both nice, short, good romance anime's. It's the same thing again. But in a different anime. I personally recommend to all of romance fan's to watch both!
These stories are similar in that the protagonists - Sana and Kouta - begin the story with a return to their respective hometowns after years of absence.
They rekindle old relationships. Discover that a lot of stuff changed, while a lot remained the same.
Both protagonists have traumatic and violent pasts that haunt them throughout the stories, and they are entangled with troublesome heroines that have a past that is related to murder and bloodshed.
In my eyes, Myself; Yourself was clearly influenced by Elfen Lied.
Both shows start off similar with happy and positive vibes, yet quickly turn to reveal the more grim nature of the show. Similarly, both shows deal with problems within the cast and the ensuing drama as a result of them trying to overcome them
If you love music and romance than this is your anime. They're both amazing in the fact that the music is good and the plot is amazing. If you love romance and school life than this is an anime you should watch.
Although there doesn't seem to be many similarities between these two shows, both shows sent shivers down my spine and made me ask myself some serious questions. Haruhi made me realize my insignificance or that maybe I'm less insignificant than I first thought. Myself;Yourself made me reconsider my situation and my life in general as well as changing how I saw the relationships between everyone around me. All in all, both series raise real questions and make you think hard.
Don't get Twins confused with Teacher. both are completely different. Both Twins and M;Y involve a guy who has recently returned to his hometown after an extremely long time, and begins to find friends that he forgot he had. One of the females always has a crush on him, and the others support her even though the guy shows no interest in them. This is an anime of hardship.
I do not know how this is never .. For I can not control at first sight, I saw a kind of typical events, which are somewhat Mixed few episodes, especially in the end, the story seemed similar .. All of them talk about students having to travel away for a long time and then start the story until he returns to see things have not been deemed by the events change the course of his life for reasons unknown, we will see them in the end
Although LovCom(Short for Lovely Complex) is much lighter than Myself;Yourself, they both have a good amount of drama in it. Both are also romance-concentrated, and deal with the troubles of the main characters and their relationships. Lovely Complex is so hilarious!! So if you're looking for a romance-comedy somewhat similar to Myself;Yourself, then I recommend it to you(vice-versa for LovCom). ^ ^
Two boys move from their hometown to Tokyo to live with their aunt/uncle and girl cousin. The city looks different then they remember and are both starting their first year of high school. Both involve love, drama and memories.
Sana= Yamato
Nanaka= Suzuka
Aoi= Miho
Syuusuke= Yasunobu
Shuri= Miki
Asami= Honoka
Both are romantic comedies about childhood friends. Both are also set in a more rural setting. Lamune is a little more easy going but Myself Yourself is definitely a show that keeps you tied
The situations of the characters are somewhat similar. After years of being apart, the male and female protagonists are reunited and realize that they are in love. Iin both cases, there is an obstacle that needs to be overcome before they can be together.
shuffle + myself;yourself are anime based on high school, it was happy in the begginning, but went downhill with the happiness, and also the girls have a secret that is really bad.
Both series start as simple high school romantic comedies composed of various character focus episodes and mini-arcs and eventually switch over to serious, high-stakes drama and varying levels of angst. Happiness! is pretty much just Myself ; Yourself with magical girls -- by-the-book harem setup, generic insert-self-here protagonist, obligatory twins, and all.
Both have a main character returning home after some time, and it picks from there where they try to build relationships and make friends.
They both have more than one relationship going on.
kimi-kiss is more straight-forward involving its main characters, while for myself ; yourself, some of the main characters have a hidden unknown past.
What do you get when you add Myself;Yourself, Kore wa Zombie, Baka no Test, Toradora, Yosuga no Sora, Suzumiya Haruhi and a bit of School Days?
You get this anime, albeit less drama, less gore, less violence but nevertheless the plot elements, characters and references can be found similar to the other anime.
