I heard about this from someone who works in the shop I buy my manga from (She was a big fan of the manga) and it's really said, I started reading her manga because I can relate to Hikaru.

I know this is two years later but a loss of a great person is never forgotten and I hope her family is doing well.

but I'd be lying if I said stuff like With the Light doesn't offend me.

I'm curious: what about With the Light did you find offensive?

It's sad she died so young, but I'd be lying if I said stuff like With the Light doesn't offend me. Still wouldn't wish her dead though.

RIP

I imagine that it would be a "slice of life" manga, so it would have never had an ending in the same way as something with an actual plot would anyway.

I had the impression even slice of life manga had a plot somehow...

Aww, that's so sad. I love her manga. To hear her die like this, I don't know what to think.

May she rest in peace

Sad to see the author of one of my favourite and one of the most unique manga series around pass away.

I had even managed to persuade my mother - who works with people who have a mental disability - to read With the Light and she'd been enjoying it thoroughly.

Tobe had been quoted as saying that the manga would end when Hikaru (the 'main' character) had become a 'cheerful, working adult'.

Man, this sucks. I actually know a friend who loves this manga due to its theme. And I didn't even know she was sick. May she rest in peace.

to tell the truth, because of her series, i was able to tell that one of my cousins was autistic without them telling me. so it's sad to know that this amazing author is gone. D:

Though maybe your cousin wasn't self-aware at the time to be able to tell you that. I thinlk many children of the autistic spectrum don't usually know they are diagnosed unless someone informs them.

(not anime related, but the author of catch in the rye died this week, too.... poor creative people. ;.;

Dude, seriously? Man, talk about a messed up start with the new decade. First the casualties in Haiti, then Daisuke Gori, and now Tobe Keiko and J.D Salinger.

I can't believe this and it is immensely sad news. She wasn't even very old :/ The Manga always struck me as being an amazing work and I'm going to endeavour to read it, especially given my interest in the subject matter.

I'm horrible lol. I would've never even heard of this manga if it wasn't for the mangaka's death.

It looks touching. Completed or not, I'll read whatever was pusblished.

RIP.

Well most of us don't really know about her except she has 2 sons and a family of 4.
So it's natural that people show concern about her works more often.
It's a big loss to fans and of course to her family, common sense. I just checked yesterday, she fell ill and stop drawing last year, the course ran down hill so fast.

Part of the manga story had been serialized in TV drama in 2004.
