A website created by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) was made to provide more information on a new satellite that will be launched into space later this year. The first post on the site is an anime short film created by studio White Fox. The purpose of the film is to raise awareness and explain the mission of the GPM/DPR satellite.

The satellite is a joint project between JAXA and America's NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and is planned to be launched from the Space Center at Tanegashima using a Japanese HII-A rocket. "GPM/DPR" stands for "Global Precipitation Measurement/Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar." The device will scan the entire Earth every 3 hours generating global precipitation maps.

Is it gonna be in MAL's database?

Hope it will be on there.

NASA and JAXA previously held an anime character challenge for GPM. The winning entries are here.

Yes, it will. Give us time to create the entry.

I thought JAXA only existed in Robotics;Notes...

Watch Uchuu Kyoudai. It's still going on and it's a brilliant work made from the collaborated effort of NASA and JAXA.

There are tones of forced drama and stereotypes(they pictured russians as like in some cliché american movie) and the pace is too slow.

I don't get the hate on White Fox.
I don't get in what alternate universe have you seen this hate. There's just one person in this thread.

So.. What does this GPM/DPR satellite do?
Seems like it can cancel out a storm based on the short animation... but I doubt that it really does that.
Perhaps you missed the sentence right after the GPM/DPR line in my post, when I wrote: " The device will scan the entire Earth every 3 hours generating global precipitation maps". So in the anime the girl is seen to use the satellite's data to predict (correctly) that it will be sunny on the wedding day even though it was stormy earlier.

I don't get the hate on White Fox. They made the best shows these past years. Steins Gate, Katanagatari, Jormungand, HaMao. If you are saying those are not top notch shows then you must be blind...

I agree that Steins Gate and Jormungand's animation was not even comparable to the likes of Pro I.G, KyoAni, ufotable etc. but HaMao's animation wasn't that bad. The battle scenes were pretty good and the first episode was awesome in terms of animation. I think they can do it if they put more into it.

Anyways, cool news. I would like to know more about JAXA. I definitely think White Fox is up to it.

Pretty nice short.

don't forget jormungand - i'd hardly say the animation in that was low-rent - one of the best looking shows of the past couple of years.........
What.
Poor visual experience was one of the main reasons I dropped it.

The satellite's purpose is great! ^^ I'm looking forward to the information-loaded anime :)

So has it been added yet? I'd really like to add this to my list before I forget about it.

Erm. Why mentioning Jormungand here? Action scenes there were quite good but all other moments had very low animation. I'd better remind Tears to Tiara but people here just don't like it probably.

And Why White Fox for ReWrite? Because they made animated version of OP.

And I really pissed off with people complaining that KyioAni only is fitting for making Key shows. Like no other studio could make it. Yes, they did a great job with Air, Kanon and Clannad but as they are now I won't give them any more of Key titles(and they won't take any because of their current politics "we make only titles we own", bare with it at last).

An average short. Is it on this site?

I thought there was already a JAXA anime. If you add Robotics Notes then 2.
