Glad Tasogare at least charted but am annoyed that it was ripped and up for download right after. Only good pirates are ones wearing miniskirts...

Not at all. The sales were pretty much unaffected by it. It had never been expected to sell more than about 1.1k on blu-ray and ended up with a stalker prediction of 1045.
And the sales of the novel actually went up that week.

I remember reading on Crunchyroll that fans of Hiiro no Kakera were really disappointed and shocked at how they butchered the art. Ok, you can't make an anime with art like Kazuki Yone's wonderful art but yea...they were disappointed. And how we got derp faces galore and bad animation.....I wouldn't buy it either so I can't say I'm surprised. :/
Amnesia is gonna be done by Brains Base, a good studio so I think it will be ok.

It's a real shame that SSY isn't even ranking... the show looks good, has actually a quite decent plot and a few cute characters. I don't get why people won't buy this, but rather buy... well, I don't want to start insulting any other shows, but SSY is clearly the "best" show of the season in my opinion.

I hope the LN sales will make up for it a bit at least, but I doubt it.

Not really, it might have done that if the sales were decent, but the sales were already low to begin with. so no, it didn't affect it in the least.

Actually I would argue this is unlikely. The trend of Shinsekai Yori in Amazon has not moved much lower (nor higher) after the broadcast of Ep.8. To be honest, the reactions in Japan among anime fans is much milder than what I see in places in the west (like MAL). Fans already knew it was coming and when it came most just shrugged and said "oh, that's it?". Shinsekai, as an anime that is adapted from a serious and complex novel (not LN) is always expected not to sell well, and its performance in Amazon since day 1 has not deviated from that. If anything I would argue that the inconsistent directing and animation/saukga issue shown in ep.5 contributed more to dissuading people to buy the anime than the yaoi part.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Shinsekai Yori is not expected to sell well. Its theme and subject is not an easy sell for a midnight anime. That said I had expected its sales might be a bit better after watching the first few episodes, but it never really gets off the ground, and the occasional sakuga/animation issue and issues perceived for directing/screenplay (which seems to have many watchers confused about what is happening), particularly the inconsistency shown in ep.5, really sank the show's reputation. A pity though.

It is not a Light Novel, that is fore sure. It is classified as a proper novel, even winning the prestigious Science Fiction Taisho award a few years ago.

As someone who is getting into otome games and has read playthroughs of Hnk, the (art) quality gap between the early Hnk games and the anime is disappointing.

Apart from the fact that I didn't really ask any question here, I mentioned the thing about SSY being the best show _in my opinion_ merely to emphasize my disappointment about such a show not even making the ranks.

And yes, I know that it was exactly expected to turn out like this, based on pre orders. Doesn't make it less of a shame, I never said I was surprised or anything. My bad with the "LN" thing, I actually know about the series originally being an actual novel, just mixed up the terms since I was just getting up.

However, the sakuga problem and inconsistent directing really hurts. I dropped my intention to buy the anime BD after that problematic ep.5, and since then I have yet to change my mind.

Sales have been pretty consistent from Vol. 2 onward. Also, what matters is only whether Japan likes it, not MAL. Though I'll wager the AW team is looking rather enviously at SAO's sales and saying "wish we picked the other one".

Not really, i mean Sunrise knew their entering Uncharted territory with a Chubby MC and the knew SAO was popular even b4 the anime. Their not idiots and im pretty sire they predicted this. Anyway i prefer Accel world but that's just me.

This is pretty much my exact experience with the show. Through episode 4 it was a major contender, but the animation inconsistencies really hurt it, and episodes 5-7 were kind of messy. Episode 8 increased my interest, but I don't think it's going to work its way back into my import pile (Sukinayo, Kaibutsu, and Sakurasou are fighting for the #5 spot it vacated), though I'll probably enjoy it decently enough to the end.

Episode one comes before five so I have bought the episode 1 BD. I loved the visuals in episode one and cannot wait to see them properly in Blu - ray 1080p. Even legally streamed 1080p is not as good. I love the audio CDs and other bonus goodies too.

To me, the episodes stand alone. Sometimes I just buy the first or first and last discs of a series, or just my favorite episodes. I buy them to enjoy them, not to collect them. I open all the clear wrapped bonus material to enjoy them properly as I am not thinking about collector value. For me it is about the joy of watching great stuff in the highest quality. And giving some money back to the studio, more than buying a US licensed copy, is good too.

It is funny sometimes. On Moretsu Pirates 1 a favorite part for me is the audio drama tracks on the soundtrack CD and the backstage and onstage presentation of the premiere with the seiyuu freezing in the very Japanese theater lacking proper heating for a winter screening. The seiyuu have wonderful voicing on the drama track and it is great to see them too. The show is beautiful, the OP and ED are great and the creditless versions are another bonus.

On Tonari no Kaibutsu kun the audio CD has a Shizuku and Haru duet remake of Ai ga umareta hi / The day love was born. It is a 1994 jpop track used in a drama at the time. It is such fun to hear the seiyuu in character on this cheesy nineties jpop. I listened to the song three times before I watched the video episode which looks so awesome, you can see the strokes in the hand drawn artwork, especially in the backgrounds and the scenes with the sunset over the town as they are on the stairs are just gorgeous. It is really too bad it didn't sell better. Fans who didn't pick it up are really missing something.

^ Yes, we can all share our reason why the BD, though very expensive, is still worth the price. And we can see that how a series may have different sales from one volume to another (as a lot of people do not complete a series) and also why some people's buying decision is influenced not just by the episodes it contains but the extra items, be it printed material or tracks of OVA/soundtrack/commentary/songs.

That said, I think I still tend to complete a series I deeply love instead of spreading it to individual volumes of several series. Just a personal preference I would say...

I don't know that they "predicted" this, but I also wouldn't say not doing so would make them idiots. It's hard to know when you greenlight a show just how far it'll go.

Actually I would say there is a point for what IceBurn said. There is indeed a widespread thought that if Accel World had a MC that is not like a pig and not so timid all the time (many fans' patience with him acting awkward and timid clearly ran out before the series finished) its sales could have been substantially better. Of course this is still speculation, but I guess saying the staff should have some inkling about this when they picked up this project should be a reasonable assumption. That said, I also would not want to use strong words like "idiot" in a discussion like the one we are having.

Besides we don't even know whether they are in a position to choose. I don't know too much about how the decision of which studio is picked for a certain anime project but I doubt a studio is always in a position to pick and choose which project to shoot for.

Smile Precure's selling point is its TV ratings not BD/DVD sales so it really doesn't matter if it ranks or not but yay for those who bought it anyway..

People don't hate Accel World, they hate the fact that the main character is fat and different, but they also hate the main character of SAO for being an idealized teen hero so basically people just hate things. In Japan it seems they are both very popular though with both selling over a million volumes of light novels.

Also Sunrise is a studio that is not afraid to take risk, it's not like they aren't making a killing with some of the other shows this year like Gundam UC, Horizon,Code Geass Akito of the Rebellion, Yamato 2199, Tiger and Bunny and all those Blu-Ray updates of old classics so I doubt they're looking at SAO with envious eyes considering they probably have more over 10K sellers this year than any other company. They probably chose Accel World too cause it fits in with the genre they are most comfortable with doing which is mecha. All the character avatar designs are basically mechanical which means model kits for Bandai to produce (I have one of them actually) and merchandise a plenty (there's an epic level of KYH crap out on the market). It was almost certainly a very conscious choice as to what works best for their brand.

Not surprised that ShinSekai is not even in the chart. But new edition of novel sold extremely great and we would see full story in any case so BD sales don't mean much. Just want the ED single as soon as possible cause it was great.

And I still think it's the best show in the season. Hope to see smth new next week

It's the investors on the committee who pay the bills (and make most of the money) who are relevant.
