This has been on my list of show to watch for a while now. Having completed it, I would say it was a lot of fun. It's nothing deep nor is it anything overwhelming original. It's just fun. Fun can go a long way though.
The art and animation are unremarkable, though far from bad. The story is quite thin and simplistic. It rids on humor, some of which can be hit and miss. There's a lot here that isn't at all great. Regardless, I'd still give it an 8 just because the characters and the humor when it does work make it a silly, fun ride.
The characters here are quite likable. The main character is rather annoying at first, but he does seem to grow through it all and become increasingly likable. His traveling companions are more immediate. Princess Escarlate is wonderfully deadpan and amusing. Her knight Sanglain is serious and likable, while still crazy enough to provide good laughs. Mariandale is probably the best character the series has, having a great design, fun personality and being at times a surprisingly grounded and positive example of a transgendered character in a purposefully dumb shounen comedy anime. Rival Erecpyle and his subordinate team Incognito meanwhile offer big on comic mischief and are always fun to watch. All the while the party comes across minor characters who are sometimes equally crazy and fun. It's an appealing cast.
The humor is focus here, and as humor is a subjective thing, it's what could potentially curtail enjoyment of the show. Ixion Saga's humor is very stupid, irreverent and often immature. As audacious as it sometimes gets, it can be worth quite a few good laughs if you're willing to laugh at that kind of humor. Don't go in expecting particularly smart comedy though. If you have no use for silliness and willful stupidity, you will not find anything of value here. For those of us who do enjoy watching something just kind of silly and dumb at times though, Ixion Saga is a solid and rewarding pick. read more
Before watching this anime, I had my doubts. But in the first ten minutes, I was hooked. Why? Because of the humor.
Ixion Saga DT doesn't really have much of a plot going (yet) but from what I've seen, it seems like an episodic anime to me.
For those of you who do not like episodic animes, then don't watch, but for those of you who like Sket Dance and Gintama, then I recommend. This show is funny, likable, and overall you'll be very pleased with it.
I feel a plot brewing, so don't worry- this anime has a direction!
I can't give a completely accurate review of this anime since only the first several episodes have been released, but I can tell that I'll enjoy this anime in the long run.
The art is good, and all the characters look unique and none of them are an eyesore to look at. There isn't a huge character cast yet, but most of them are likable, so no worries there.
I very much enjoy the characters voices, and those of you who are fans of Gintama, look out for two familiar voice actors!
The OP and ED are both great, and this just seems like this show has a lot of potential if it gets far.
I enjoy this anime and I am excited for the shows progression! I honestly don't have any negative points about the series at the moment, and I hope it stays that way.
My overall enjoyment of the show is an 8. read more
Both are comedy-oriented in an RPG-esque setting.
Both are hilarious.
There is the theme of an RPG setting present in both series. Rather than anything serious though, it relies more on comedy and parody to present various sequences to the audience.
Both the main male protagonists often plays the role of a fool but can be surprisingly reliable at some occasions.
Don't expect major story in both series but rather focus on the comedy parts for entertainment.
Both animes show ironic and humour point of view on 'hero's crusade'...Both make jokes on stereotypes..sometimes harsh, riddicilous and pervert..but always funny.
Both main characters or 'heroes' are scapegoats.};]
Both are almost similar to RPG and both have good comedy.
Remove the rapidfire boke and tsukkomi routine from Senyuu, add more characters, hammer in a little more plot and you'll get Ixion Saga. Both series are fantastic.
- Both are comedy-oriented, with some action, that is hilarious most of the time.
- Both by the same director, who also directed School Rumble. The director's touch and experience from Gintama is obvious in Ixion Saga DT.
- Both have creative humor with hilarious plot-twists.
- The humor in both is similar; puns, parodies, energetic characters, traps, virginity, balls..etc
Ixion Saga is a somewhat failed attempt to replicate the style of anime Gintama introduced .
If you find yourself thinking that Ixion Saga seems unrefined or a good concept executed badly , Gintama is for you .
Now if you actually like/love Ixiong Saga then Gintama is your new favorite series .
If there is an anime similar to Ixion it has to be Gintama. Considering the fact that they both have the same director makes it even more plausible.
From the very start it is impossible not the see similarities: jokes about everything that is sexually oriented (tama, ED, DT...), parodies of other anime, almost static scenes with conversation... You have it all. The main difference is that Ixion actually has a plot and stays on course. And the thing about samurai or video games is absolutely unimportant.
Ixion Saga DT and Gintama are kind of similar because the jokes are similar. Ixion Saga is as good as Gintama and makes you laugh as much as Gintama.
