I cant connect to myanimelist without proxy anymore. I normally never use them and now i can't enter without them xD Am i IP banned or something, and if yes why? O.o really dont know whats happening

It seems that error code 16 is a bit different than most of the others, so I'll keep this as an extra thread (at least for now). While most other Incapsula error codes are only short and/or can be solved by deleting cookies for myanimelist.net, if you get error code 16 it seems you are blocked for a longer period of time which can be several days.

What exactly did you do before you got this error code?

I gave the short anime "Cross Road" a rating of 8. Thats the last thing i can remember xD

The error code 16 appears when the directory fails to be removed. It's only my suspicion, but I believe at the moment of trying to score some series, the servers might not replace the info fast enough - the Incapsula beats them to it, saying that although the action has been performed, nothing has changed (yet). I really wouldn't know why this error code includes a longer span of block time, bit it is something worth looking into.

I don't think that's the reason. Did you somehow spam the site (your anime view counter is pretty high), use any scripts on the site, or used an external site to get recommendations etc.?

No, I haven't yet experienced an error code 16 at all, but I wanted to point out what sort of inner issue happens for it to take action and surface.

I'm also getting this same error, i got it first at around 10pm GMT, and after many attempts to change browser turn of 3rd part apps and restart my computer it hasn't changed it at all. I use this website every day to brosswe new anime and read people's reviews. Oh and also this is "ghostnial's" friend as he cannot even login because he recieve the code "16" error. I've also never posted on any foumrs or rated any anime i simply browse and use this to select what anime i will watch

my friend is also experiencing this problem, of the error code 16. he doesn't post, comment on the forums, or do anything for that matter on the website, he only uses it to browse anime and read people's reviews so he can pick out what anime he would like to watch, he uses this website every day and check o it regularly. the rror apeared on the 10/9/14.(hes english forany american peoplereading asthe 10th month he means 9th month 10th day) at around 22:30 he recieved this when trying to go onto MAL's homepage. he also asked 3 people to log onto his accont and postthis for him everytime they logged in they would recieve the same error code 16. he also tried restarting hs computer. turning off all 3rd part apps, and changing browser but nothing affected it. (his name is ghostnial btw)

Did your friend use

- any apps, userscripts or programs for MAL, if so, which ones?
- any sites that use data directly from MAL to give you recommendations etc.? If so, which ones?

I'm posting on behalf of ghostnial as fairfoxy was also, also sorry for ghostnial's previous post one friend did access the account successfuly, posted and then the post didn't show up and the error code 16 came up for this person. As previously stated no apps,scripts or any 3rd party features at all we're being used. When originaly conntecting ABP (addblockerplus) as active, but after the error code apeard as mention my friend ghostnial restarted turned off all 3rd party features tried again with no success and also tried a different browser to still be met by the error code 16

Any sort of ad blockers can be seen as 3rd party software. Once the block triggers and the error code pops up, turning it off and removing it unfortunately does nothing. Afterwards, your access is restricted for a specific period of time regardless of what you do.

When this other friend successfully accessed his account, were they sharing the same internet connection or different ones? If they had different ones, could he access his own account after this normally? What exactly did he tried to post? Maybe there was something in the post that triggered the error code (though usually this is code 14 then).

This is ghostnial, no my friend was in the same country but not using the same internet connection. After two days it seems to have lifted the error code 16, but i've still got my ABP active and can access the home page and also login now. Thanks to everyone for you support/help

I was using an chrome extension a mate made which tells you when new anime eps are out. I think it checks the MAL List every 5 mins and then compares it to the animes whch are out on nyaa. I already deactivated the app, because it was more like a testing, but could this have been the reason? Cant realy think of a diffrent reason. And like mentioned, I am able to post on this account, but not from my home ip. If i connect to MAL on my iPod or on my Notebook I cant post anything, but with a proxy everything goes alright (unbearable slow, but alright)

So, this topic is dying again. Has really no 1 a solution to this? Not even a hint where i could get one? >.< This problem seem to occure to quite some ppl. For example here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=664475

I just spoke with another user on IRC who was using the same extension (only set at 1 minute instead of 5) and was also banned under this error code. I've posted in the extension thread on MAL about this.

If your IP is still banned under error code 16 only for a significant length of time, then I would suggest contacting DeNA's support at: support@myanimelist.net . Please don't contact their support for other minor Incapsula error codes which only persist for an hour or a day; let us help you solve what's prompting those errors instead.

Mod Edit: Replaced company name and email address with the new ones. MAL is no longer owned by Crave, please don't send emails to them as they won't be able to help you.

I also have this problem, and was using the "Anime Release Notifier" set to 5 minutes. I'm going to contact that support, as my issue has gone on for nearly a week now. Should my situation change, I'll post back here for confirmation.

Thx, i wrote an mail , and they said they banned my ip because it hit there server to many times. Guess it was really the chrome extension >.<
Now im unbanned and its working fine for me. Thx for the support!

It happened to me two times, when I copied html to my about me. And the site wouldn't allow me to come back, only after I cleared my cookies.

I finally got unbanned. I don't think they got my first email for whatever reason, but that's what fixed it.

I'm getting this now too. The only thing I can think of that I did differently today was accidentally click on a MAL link that I had copied into an openoffice spreadsheet(it was soon after that that I was banned iirc), other than that I was just normally browsing.
Hopefullt I'm unbanned soon, I don't feel like contacting them.

Lovely. The API server for Atarashii just got banned (again). That's several thousand users (according to the Google Play Store stats) affected until I get a workaround in place.

I might try e-mailing Crave directly. PMing Xinil last time didn't do any good.

If you're on a connection with a dynamic IP, you could also see about refreshing the IP lease and trying to get a new IP that isn't blocked.

When did this happen? How long did it last? Are you sure it was error code 16 and not another number?

It seems that Crave changed something so you get this error code faster now. I've spoken with many users before that had the problem some months ago and they were all banned for 1-2 weeks until they finally spoke to me, so even if it was temporary, it was a long ban. Maybe this is different now too.

I'm pretty sure it was the same one, it happened after I posted a certain post in the forum, it was a week or two maybe. I cleared my cookies and was able to get back in again tried to finish that post as I didn't know that it was what caused it and was banned again, once again cleared my cookies and just didn't post it. I'm pretty sure it was the same one, I remember looking it up on google but it may have been a little different.

Sounds confusing. Anyways I contacted Crave support last night so I'll see how it goes.

This sounds exactly like error code 14 where certain things you post trigger this error code and where you can easily fix it by clearing the cookies. You can't fix error code 16 by just clearing your cookies. Several people tried this in the last few days and it never worked, they only got unbanned after messaging Crave. You usually get unbanned quite fast after messaging them (though it probably takes longer if you message them on the weekend).

I got unbanned by emailing Crave... eventually. First time I emailed, they said they lifted ban and hadn't. Had to wait for weekend to end, then emailed again. Lifted - for real this time - shortly after.

Protip: if you add favourites when site lagging, don't go OTT. Once you start having to spam to get titles added, you run risk of Crave auto-banning you / thinking you're doing something more... naughty.

I woke up and tried to check my PM from an Administrator here on MAL (about News stuff) but when I entered the website ( on all devices I have, except Samsung Galaxy Ace, which I could still open my MAL and post this thread ) it says Error Code 16. Plus, I am unable to update my list by a mobile app called Pocket MAL ( probably because I can't access the site ).

Is there any way to fix this? (Or did I do something wrong?)
The last activity I did on the site last night is to put Gangsta in my plan to read.
Also, I submitted a support email to support@myanimelist.net earlier.
Knowing it will take longer than expected, I would like to ask the moderators and experienced people in this site at this thread.

@sevenPocky: As you can see in this thread this problem happened to a few users in the past when they were accessing the site too often, for example with a browser extension that checked the site every 1-5 minutes. Are you using any program, app or browser extension that is constantly accessing this website?

Unfortunately the MAL mods/admins can't do anything about the Incapsula error code 16. To get unbanned you need to send an email to support@myanimelist.net as you already did, ideally with information about what you did on the site before this happened and any apps or extensions that could cause a problem. Since it's Sunday you might not get a reply immediately but you should on Monday.

@Luna_: I am ordinarily using my iPad for using the site, thus I don't have any extensions. Probably since I refreshed forums a lot last night. (Oops)
