Updated the v2 drops, for those interested. But nothing really interesting happened. Aside from a minor drop(in %) in Haikyuu!!'s v3 drop. Next week we'll only get like 5 BD releases, so it'll be rather boring. But at-least v1 of Iniitail D final stage and Robot Girl Z will come out. |

Cashing in month for Sunrise/Bandai continues. Better combined BD/DVD first week sales than even the almighty Madoka film if I'm not mistaken thanks to huge DVD numbers and while it feels like a movie at an hour and 30 minutes it's still technically just an OVA which is ridiculous. It must be the best selling OVA series of all time now. Also still further proof yet along with Sidonia that mecha is definitely not a dying genre as someone claimed in one of these threads a few months back. |

If you just rush in and watch it without watching the prior Gundam series in the timeline its going to be a really confusing experience. You can sort of enjoy it on its own but realistically you won't get anywhere as near as much out of it if you don't have an understanding of the Universal Century canon and what the conflicts and references are all about. I'd say Gundam has a medium level barrier of entry as a franchise just to the sheer expansiveness of the Canon. |

Especially for a 1-episode OVA? But really, I can't be bothered to explain. Problem is it's original anime. It doesn't have manga/LN/VN/game to promote. It doesn't have much merchandise to sell. Yes, it promoted locations but nothing else. From the commercial point of view it's not much profitable. And the average sales of More Aggressive is just about 3k which is barely good even with quite small budget it had. So don't talk like you know everything. The only reason which could bring us more Tamayura is Junichi Satou himself if he like it that much. |

By the way, its 4.2k, not 3k. Not that the OVA did bad in sales, maybe compared to series, but overall? Not really. If you're 100% certain that they won't make S3 based on the sales of a single episode OVA, then nothing I say will convince you otherwise. I wasn't talking like I know everything, are you sure your not projecting? |

Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy then Zeta Gundam Tv series then ZZ Gundam then Chars Counterattack then Gundam Unicorn should work fine. Its a big time commitment but pretty much required watching. As for Space Dandy the show is more aimed at Western audiences and did very well on Cartoon Network. Super Sonics also came with a figurine which helped sell the BD package a lot. As for normal non hardcore otaku shows, they just don't tend to appeal to the Premium BD buying audience much with stuff like Unicorn being exceptions. They do however tend to pull in good ratings and be marketable in other ways. Ace Of Diamond is a good example. |

The source has them. And It's most convenient one out there. Open your eyes. And I'm just denying you wrong statement "you're saying we won't get an S3 because of OVA sales". I'm saying we won't get an S3 because of S2 sales in general. OVA just indicates further drop. That's all. And you'd better to make at least one argument why where would be S3. You started this argument and the general rule is: "Who started the argument should justify his opinion". |

It is better to watch all of those series set in Universal Century timeline first so you would understand the story better, though I've watched Unicorn without any of those and still get most of what is happening in the series. I don't think the story is confusing at all so you can just go straight to Unicorn imho, and maybe check out the other UC series to know more about what's happened before Unicorn if the story interests you. :3 |

xchee said: Now I'm intrigued with Gundam. Is it necessary for me to watch everything in the franchise? Looking at the list, I'm already overwhelmed. It's funny cause I knew once Gundam Unicorn just crushed it sales wise aagain people would become a little more interested in the franchise. It takes that sort of things to get noticed these days sometimes particularly with Gundam not being seen as bleeding edge much anymore, but hey whatever it takes. I can answer pretty much any question anyone has about the franchise so if anybody has some questions feel free to ask them on my wall. And yeah it tends to do that too people. It's kind of a shame that the barrier of entry to the franchise is so high nowadays with just the sheer amount of canon. No other anime franchise really comes close. People can of course always start with one of the self-contained Alternative Universe TV series to get a feel for the franchise. If you're looking for good old fashioned fun I'd suggest G Gundam or Gundam Build Fighters. If you're looking for something a little more traditional in terms of Gundam style storytelling I'd recommend X, Wing and 00. If you're looking for something a little more character driven and mellow I'd suggest Turn A Gundam. Gundam Seed is pretty much the most accessible overall of the AU's but I'd also consider it to be the most simplistic of them along with AGE both of which really don't add anything I'd consider unique to the franchise like the other AU's which really use the concept of the whole alternate universe thing well by actually doing their own take and feel on the concept. In terms of the whole U.C Gundam series vibe, to draw a comparison to a popular modern work most people would probably know, I'd say it has the most in common with something like Fate/Zero. It's pretty much dead serious for the most part, features a lot of larger than life but still human feeling characters, has character that tend to get drawn into a conflict larger than their individual struggles and shows how being involved in that conflict and the people they encounter during it defines them, there's a lot of behind the scenes politics and the occasional back stab and it's not afraid to kill off characters or have them suffer significant set backs and trauma as part of their character growth and resolution. Anyway one last thing I want to add, a lot of people seem to have this mistaken impression of Gundam as being primarily about large robots blowing the shit out of each other in action sequences and while it does have that, I tend to associate the franchise more with scenes like this one from the original movie trilogy or this one from Char's Counterattack which I've probably seen more than any other anime movie. |

It's Gundam Unicorn week, now I hope some guy here will be relieve of his stress and should just stop ranting when "not his favorite shows" are on top, because really I hope that this week will serve as a reminder that each will have it's own time at the pedestal. Now I'm more interested on how the Perfect Grade Gundam Unicorn will turn out, the MG was just plain horrible in my opinion like how so many parts easily falls off and not much pose you can get. I expect the PG Unicorn's price tag would be somewhere near Strike Freedom, hopefully with that price tag we get a decent mobility and posability. |
