According to the official blog of Ichiko Hashimoto, Code Geass Gaiden: Boukoku no Akito will be a four episode film & OVA series, similar to the format for Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

The first release of an anime is the most important one, as long as the majority of it was released that way.

I need help understanding how Code Geass Gaiden: Boukoku no Akito is being released, in it's majority.

tsubasalover says that it's being released to DVD after it airs in theatres, but why say it's a "film & OVA" series then? That's not an OVA, as it's not direct-to-video; that's the usual pattern following a movie's release. dtshyk gives a bit more insight, saying that it's released similar to Gundam Unicorn, but afaik Unicorn's release pattern is all over the place.

Is this being released in theatres all across Japan, or only a select few? Are DVDs/BDs only being released later, or simultaneously/close all across Japan? Are the other 3 chapters going to be released the same way, or is that still unknown?

Movie is appropriate.

Akito is being aired all over the place. 37 theaters in Japan for now. That's far more than say Mardock Scramble.

DVD/BDs will be released, like any other movie. Dates are not announced even for the already airing first episode, so it is not even close to the theater premiere date.

I believe the rest of the episodes will follow suit, as episode 2 is already announced to premiere next spring.

Gundam UC released the first BD/DVD a month after the theater premiere/PlayStation Network release. Before that though, UC is officially recognized as an OVA series, and not a movie series. Premiere dates and release dates should only be considered if the official type designation is not clearly available. Like any other movie, if it is being released in theaters first and being released as a DVD/BD later, then it should be considered a movie unless otherwise officially designated.

Akito does not have a PSN release (yet, perhaps). If you want to wait for official updates on BD/DVD release dates, then we can just temporarily keep it one or the other and change it later. However, Akito is officially recognized as a movie series (or rather, not asserted that it is an OVA series being released in theaters), like Towa no Quon and Mardock Scramble, so such consideration should be unnecessary.

Yes, there was previous news about it being released as a "film and OVA" series, but this is not like Yamato 2199, where the movie series is only 7 episodes while the OVA release is 26 episodes nor does the content between the two media differ. There is no reason to have to make two entries for Akito in this way. Therefore, circumstances would favor it being recognized as a movie series.

iirc, the intention of the "film and OVA" phrasing was simply to deny the 3rd TV series rumor at the time. The original announcement came from the blog of a staff member, and the use of these terms were colloquial, so-to-speak. Moreover, there was also some confusion with Nunnally in Wonderland, which was also announced at the same time as an OVA, often in the same news article.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume OVA can be renamed "Shinryaku!! Ika Musume" with double exclamation points. The Japanese equivalent is 侵略!!イカ娘. (Season one had one exclamation point, and season two had an exclamation point with a question mark.)

Should Kokoro Connect be split into 4 entries? The BDs have a different sub-title for each arc, and the different sub-titles are also shown in the logo during the opening sequence for their respective episodes.

I'm sure most people would say that it's stupid to split them (and I agree with them), but it isn't any different to the way Shikabane Hime and various other series were treated.

The first volume was released on 28 November and the second volume on 21 December.

Red herring here. Only 1 episode was pre-aired, that one episode being split into a 15 minute 第一話 and another 15 minute 第二話, both amounting to 30 minutes. There are two volumes to this ova, each with 1 30 minute episode, so only half of the entire series was pre-aired. You can watch the raw on nicolive until the 12th.

I agree with that. Why the status is set to Finished Airing, when the 3rd and 4th episodes haven't released yet?

Kokoro Connect has no airing break between each arc. It's all airing at once, so it's a single entry. If the last arc is BD only (a possibility), then that will get a separate entry.

I'm aware of that. My post is directed at this rule:

Anime DB Guidelines said:
If there is no gap between seasons, but the continuation of the series is indicated as a separate season with a new title, it will get a second entry. (e.g. Shugo Chara, Shikabane Hime)

The logo has been changed so that would constitute a new title, at least according to other entries in the database (Shikabane Hime, Recorder to Randoseru, Yurumates 3D, Morita-san wa Mukuchi). I wouldn't call it a 'separate season', but the same goes for my other examples too.

For now, there's no precedent for splitting up episodes of the same 12/13 episode season. By that logic, we could theoretically create separate entries every time a series gives a title for each episode (which is often, if not always).

Not sure what we'll do with the final arc. We'll probably wait for more information.

I thought One Off was two 30 minute episodes...? Based on the information provided, this is what I put in the More Info section:

Both episodes received early screenings at Marunouchi Piccadilly (Tokyo) and Namba Parks Cinema (Osaka) on 5 August 2012. The first volume was released on 28 November and the second volume on 21 December.

Episode one was pre-aired as two fifteen minute "episodes" on nicolive and the channel AT-X.

So that's wrong?
And it was set to "Finished Airing" because all of it had pre-aired, though we're in the process of changing how we deal with pre-airs right now so dsfargeg.

One Off consists of four 15 minute episodes, or as you can say - two 30 minute episodes.
Only 2 of 4 episodes were pre-aired.

Hori-san to Miyamura-kun is properly titled "Hori-san to Miyamura-kun: Shingakki" with the Japanese 堀さんと宮村くん-新学期-.

The period at the end of Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko should not be removed as it is part of the title, which can be seen on the light novel cover. It is also used on the anime official website. The same applies for the English title.

Mobile Suit Gundam AGE is finishing at 49 episodes on 23 September.

Episode count updates:
- 12 episodes for Jormungand: Perfect Order
- 26 episodes for Little Busters!
- 13 episodes for Sukitte Iinayo.
- 12 episodes for Ebiten: Kouritsu Ebisugawa Koukou Tenmonbu
- 24 episodes for Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
- Hyouka may have 22 episodes?
- Kokoro Connect looks to end its TV broadcast at 13 episodes and have the remaining 4 come out on Blu-ray. I suppose the debate can now begin whether or not to split.

One Off

The entry episode number should be 2, for the same reason Galaxy Angel, Dokonjou Gaeru and the like are not double the current number, and also how Dantalian no Shoka isn't 14 episodes etc. The only change that needed to be made before was that it should still be set to currently airing.

One Off is 4 15 minute "episodes", but there are two "episodes" in one episode, two "episodes" between one OP and one ED.

The second "project" of Kyousougiga is being pre-aired on August 25th. I don't know whether this means a continuation of the current ONA entry or not, but just letting you know the Kyousougiga news from before wasn't dead. It seems that there will be new footage shown in the pre-airing but not the full episode. There will also supposedly be announcements on future plans concerning the entire project.

It seems this information is still unconfirmed. Even other Japanese blog sites are saying the information is still unreliable. Also no confirmation from an official source regarding this has been announced. I'm not saying we should not trust the information posted by arsonal, I'm just a little wary of how reliable the source he used can be.

Broadcast channels tend to not have correct numbers before the programs end. They use their "info is subject to change" excuse as often as possible. Even if this person really called tvk and the info isn't just bait, tvk can change numbers on whim. tvk might not even know Kokoro Connect has 17 episodes in store.

If Kokoro Connect is only doing 13 on TV, then we can have ミチランダム as a separate special entry. The TV series would be treated as a 13 episode product on all commercial fronts, so the arcs within them shouldn't be split. Given that ミチランダム would intentionally be unavailable to the public on normal broadcast, unlike Bake etc., this should be a separate entry. Well, we still have to wait for confirmation though.

I think Ebiten is also something that needs to be considered too. If the ONA is 10eps and the TV is 12eps, will that warrant a new entry? What about the new Seitokai no Ichizon? 1 cours ONA vs 2 cours TV series, possibly. Would the ONA just be considered an elongated pre-airing? The Ebiten and Seitokai no Ichizon situations are still just a possibility, but anyway.

Jormungand was already announced as a split-cours series some time ago, so it is unlikely for the series length to change. Little Busters figure is in line with the length of most other Key visual novel adaptations. It is interesting to note though that if Sakurasou ends up not being a split-cours, J.C.Staff will be working simultaneously on at least three two-cours series starting October.

If anything, the other information is a head's up of new developments that require assessment. There have been similar announcements in the past whose changes have been approved through this thread (e.g. Shakugan no Shana III, Mirai Nikki). New developments do happen though, such as Fate/Zero eventually being a split-cours series.

The ONA was a pre-airing that only showed the first 6 episodes. The DVD consisting of 12 episodes was released on August 22nd. I'm not sure if you want to keep it an ONA or change the type to something else or perhaps even split the 12 into 6 ONA, 6 special. On the latest ep of Shiba-Inuko, the latter 6 were treated as un-aired episodes in the commercial, but on Animate, the contents of the DVD is treated as 本編 12 episodes, meaning there's no division between main and extra.

Plus with the way the cover the source material with 3 episodes per LN volume(with episode 1 being volume 3 entirely), they will end in volume 5, thus making it 13 episodes.
