Funny how the only one that got shot was Valmet, who was the only one trying to protect from getting shot all the time. Koko didn't care like always and Jonah ran forward the fire. XD Poor Valmet, she's so unlucky. I was rather let down at the lack of police attack. One would think that they would try harder when there's an open shooting in the middle of a street on a day. Also, where the hell were all media? I live in a poor and small country but even here there would be lots of live footage from media helicopter. Especally if they blew up a police car justlike that. Also, bonus points for showing how nuts those guys were. Am I the only one to whom the girl seemed much more experienced than the guy? Funny she actually a newbie in it.

The tactical ballistic sheild that you see in this spoiler is only capable of taking in 500 rounds from an AK47 round. There fore it is not possible for Valmet to get shot after the sheild get's pounded by Jaw's assult rifle.

I might be wrong but I felt that she moved her leg too much and it got from the shield's protection. That made sense to me since she got hit into her knee. Just a thought.

Nice Shootout; Koko is so Loco XD; Lol at Jonah's math.

Seems like this series will have arcs after all; tho i doubt this one will last more than next episode; which is fine since that just leaves room for other arcs.

Wow, Jonah can't even handle 14 x 3, thank you for making me laugh.

Nice to see development in the relationships, Valmet gets to go on a date with Koko, Jonah protects Koko, she thanks him with a kiss, he clearly says what his problem is with her (actually, why does this kid not refuse to learn math etc.) and she even likes that, I really hope she will continue that talk. What surprised me the most was Lehm saying Jonah shouldn't get too close to Koko and the team, a hint for future tension?

Music was really good in this episode, too.

New enemies, both are crazy, shishou (was his name mentioned?) believes the sound of gun shots is like music and Chinatsu is the real deal. Those crazy eyes, her wicked smile, saying Jonah is cute and even protecting him, her torture devices, she definitely has lost it!

What made this episode a bit weaker than the previous ones, though, was that really odd shootout, how the hell did Jonah not get hit and why didn't Lehm shoot Orchestra. There is no logical reason for this, were they kidding us. They stick with manga which is basically good but they really should've changed that, there is no way the staff didn't feel weird with this shootout.

Me, lol. That was a funny part.

Pretty explosive episode. Jonah is still interesting in action as well as out of it. Really liking his development and getting to know more about him and in the context of the others. Velmet is kind of annoying in in the way and really, the Italian police force is pretty terrible.

Bi or lesbian. Either is likely. Though she's only interested in Koko. Which is "YEY!" worthy development. Can't wait for Val's arc.

If the Ultimate Question is just "how many wheels do three planes have?" then it seems silly to imagine that Deep Thought wouldn't have been able to compute it itself >_<

(My personal opinion is that the Question is "Which number Rule of the Code states that no one shall speak to the Man at the Helm and the Man at the Helm shall speak to no one?")

That was kind of disappointing. Worst episode until now since the battle was extremely stupid. This is indeed adrenaline overdose based but still at least don't make the dude stand in the middle of the street like that. The worst was how he shot those two cops in the top of the building but couldn't shoot the kid running at him.
The worst though, that i completely hate seeing in cheap action movies too is the table protection thing. Tables don't fucking protect you from bullets!!!

Also the directing failed to show a few elements of the skirmish better making it seem worse than it was. Anyway hoping for a better episode next week.
What i did like was this face.

i understand Yumekichi what your saying about Jonah not getting hit in that gunfight, but i take it as a small price to pay for the fact that an animation studio is following the manga for ONCE!

I don't understand this mentality. You openly admit that the manga is imperfect in this case, but praise the anime for following this imperfection. Or, at least, you openly admit that the anime, in the course of following the manga to the letter, created an imperfection itself -- after all, Jonah staring down an AK-47 without being hit would seem less realistic when animated than in still images. So why would you praise an adaptation for not actually adapting the source material to its own medium?

Why are you manga readers so close-minded? ~_~

There is an annoying trend of people that are glad something is following the manga and even think it's great if it follows the manga even if the anime is actually bad. Is like all that is important to them is following the manga. They might watch a shitty anime and say is going great because it's loyal to the manga. Well fuck, no is not. Is shit because the manga was shit so it would have actually been better if it wasn't like that(i ain't talking about this show but in general).
If someone takes a mediocre manga and makes changes for the better they will still scream about the changes despite making it better.
Manga readers should realize already that it doesn't matter if the director changes something. What it matters is if that change improved things for the better or for worse. If it made it worse then you can get pissed, if not, shut-up. But they fall in-love with whatever they see first that they always feel that when something changes it can't be for better.

Totally have to agree with you, I literally facepalmed at those scenes. It was the most entertaining episode out of the 3 so far, I give it that. But those scenes were just stupid.. What a waste, really.

Another scene is this one:

Not sure if I understood it correctly - but didn't the guy with the gun still had bullets in it? If so, why did he just let the 2 of them go?

This show is awesome.

The shootout was a little...funny...at times as I was shocked at how characters weren't getting hit or rather how they were missing their target.

Chinatsu is so sinisterly cute that you have to stop and remind yourself that this girl is CRAZY evil. But I liked her character

Agreed on the posted image above.

Not that the action sequences are different compared to Black Lagoon. That's why I was a bit skeptical about this show. And in the end, it's just like Black Lagoon.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought the gunfight this episode was kinda poorly portrayed ... especially Jonah's suicidal charge directly into the face of a firing AK-47 on full auto. You'd think a richochet or stray shot at least would've had a good chance of hitting him, much less with the guy firing directly at him the whole time. Especially considering he later got two police snipers a few minutes later with headshots from well further away. OK, he was under fire himself and shooting around a tower shield, but they could've at least shown the bullets whizzing by millimeters from Jonah's screaming face.

Despite that (and no real indication of why Lehm decided not to take the clear shot on both of them when he first took position), I'm still digging this show. I don't have a horse in the anime v manga debate, since I don't read manga before I watch the anime for this specific reason. And it's apparently a direct enough translation I probably wouldn't need to.

Apparently Jonah was not told there would be math on this exam ;) 3 x 14 = 42, I actually missed the Douglas Adams reference (if such was made, it could've just been a random number). Amusing, I wonder if he has a learning problem or if he's just bad at maths.

Well, it's interesting that some people refer The number 42 from the answer 14x3=42. Since Jonah has been a child soldier probably in a west asia and never been to school, he answered "a lot." But I noticed the difference between the manga and the anime.

In the manga chapter 6 ("Musica ex Machina" arc), Valmet says "There are fourteen of them on there." So the original author, Keitarou Takahashi, made that three airplanes have 14 wheels.

BUT in anime, Valmet surely says "22 (nijuu-ni)". English subtitle is wrong. I guess the number was changed so as to follow the actual number of the wheels on airplane. According to this article, Airbus A380 has 22 wheels.

It's not big deal, but did the author write 14x3 on purpose? Was there any reason? What do you guys think?

Hmmm, if she actually said (in Japanese) 22, then it was probably the subbers making a Hitchhikers' Guide joke. Or they thought the proper number of wheels on a plane actually was 14, and they fixed the 'mistake' figuring people watching the fansub wouldn't pay attention to the actual number stated.

In retrospect, after looking at how hard it is to actually hit someone with sustained full-auto fire, much less done around an obstacle and from the hip, I'd have to say Jonah's chances of not getting hit did increase dramatically. Granted, Jonah's head-on charge is actually the way he could have best assured that he WOULD get hit, since all Jaws would've had to've done is stopped firing madly for a second to get the recoil under control and just sweep the kid's legs out from under him with a spray. Even if the recoil drove it up he'd probably get a center mass shot even with a wild spray. But clearly neither Jonah nor Jaws was thinking clearly at the time, both of them busy screaming and firing automatic weapons at each other.

As for the shootout, i'll let my boy Jules explain it for you guys.

Seriously the car chase in the very first ep was a dead giveaway that a realistic portrayal of gun fights is not what they're going for here.

All in all I can say stupid fucking staff at the studio. Makes no sense why they would do this to drag shit around. Just kill the SOB team to move to other enemies? How hard is to understand viewers would love to see many bad guys to be shot and variations. Don’t drag the shit. I noticed it a lot in animes nowadays.

It has nothing to do with the staff. That's how the manga plays out. If "Teacher"/Shisho were to die during that gun fight a lot of scenes would be cut out. And given that they have been following the manga really well up to now, I doubt that will happen anytime soon. And at the time Lehm was probably more worried about Valmet's injury and Koko escaping, since he knew they would be capable of finding Chinatsu and Shisho eventually.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They follow the manga, so it's not the anime producers fault. I mean maybe they could have worked around it to seem more real, but who knows what really goes on behind the scenes.

I think I'm in agreement with most people here about the firearm physics going on here. Most of shooters (both sides) would have been dead if they carried on like they did. Oh well, that's the entertainment industry, you don't want to kill off your main characters except near the end.

Enjoy it while we can.

True that moving objects are hard to hit, but Jonah was running straight towards them (when zig zaging would have been realistically better in order to avoid those bullets). Plus, let´s not forget that Lehm´s intervention part was really dangerous, since if Chinatsu hadn´t stopped the Orquesta dude´s shooting, we would have had a swiss cheese shota right now.
Still enjoying the series so far, though ^_^
