According to Weekly Shonen Champion, an OVA of "Shinryaku! Ika Musume" was announced to be released on August 8th. It will be bundled with the 12th volume of the comic book.

Because BD sales plummeted by half for the second season. A third season likely would not be profitable.

As much as I love the anime, I can see why by the middle of the second season people started losing interest. Gags started repeating (not necessarily bad) with few new twists (that's bad), Ika's identity as an invader or even as a non-human was pushed aside, and a very small pool of character traits were exploited over and over again to drive the episodes. I found the first season more playful, more intense and a bit more like Yotsubato with Ika's discovery of these pesky humans.

A long wait, but I think I'll survive.

IMO this is both good and bad. Good, since we get more Squid Girl - but bad, since I think this basically is saying that there won't be a third season. Oh well...
