It's more or less an amalgamation of several VN arcs into a new anime original one.
This is no problem, because the different arcs were mostly about showing what happened at different places at the same time, even though of course Hiroshi's different actions made them slightly different.

Ah, interesting. I was wondering if Ookami would follow a similar storytelling pattern as Higurashi and Umineko did.

So without getting into spoilers, how did you like the original VN? Did you think it reached the Higurashi/Umineko level?

Probably the best episode so far. Still uncertain on what exactly is going on aside from the growing expectation that Issei won't be sticking around for much longer.

Overall, I like the action that they showed because it invites me to watch the following episode.

Actually, according to one site, the English translation could be "Wolfed Away". since 'ookami' (or also 'okami') means "wolf", and the word 'kakushi' got it from the word 'kamikakushi', which means "spirited away". Combine it together and remove 'kami', now it's Ookami Kakushi. But hey, I just got it from some site.

Woah, O_o that is scary to think about....being taken away by a wolf just because you love them...why not think of it was those being wolves want not to be like that anymore and be in love normally like their human partner...why not?

this is what I think:

The town/city are half wolf / human and since they made the city bigger, and new people started living in the town / city the elders of the half wolf / human decided that they are only to be in love and have children with their own kind... so if they find ya with a normal human they will kill you.

I hope this is not the story tho because it would suck... I probably know the ending too =/

Yeah i hope so too, it's just lame...
I agree with this....would be lame.

Anyway, the most stupid thing is that Hiroshi ran away after seeing the girl get killed. I mean.. Technically, the wolves should've followed him when they see him running ┐(-。ー')┌ Though knowing that this is an anime, and that Hiroshi is in fact the main character (However unlikely it may seem).. They just had to let him slip by unnoticed. He even tried his best to be seen by being so un-stealthy ┐('~`;)┌

Yeah, I was wondering about that too but I figured considering that no one was around, no one would really believe him anyway.

Then again, the traveler guy believed him so my whole argument is invalid >.<
What's bothering the most is why were the phones out and no one around? Is it paranormal at work or everyone is in on all of this but does not talk?

Well considering that Higurashi and Umineko themselves have pretty different standards, not even by levels but just because I find them difficult to compare, it's hard to say.
I would say Ôkami lies a step beneath those, not because of bad writing, but just because it's not as intricate as the other two were when he thought them up.
At times I have a feeling he recycled some ideas he had while writing other projects, but that would be no surprise considering that Ôkami was released only 5 days after End of the Golden Witch.
So it's safe to say that he didn't put his complete effort into Ôkami.

What I DO have to say is, that I found Ôkami as a VN much easier to read than Higurashi, because you could see that he learned to weave lighthearted everyday life and gloomy atmosphere closer together. It didn't have those hard cuts anymore between light and dark, which led me to skip almost every club-game scene when I read Higurashi.

You know what's bothering me? Ookami isn't very graphic.
I mean, when people got murdered in Higurashi and Umineko, it was really really graphic.
But Ookami's like, ''Hey we'll show you a moving scythe and some blood, then a first person shot through the victim's eyes, WITH MOAR BLOOOOD!''.

Sigh, I wish it'd be more graphic. Then this anime wouldn't be so cute anymore. :D

Quite a good mystery/surnatural episode there. The atmosphere is darkening and the plot is slowly unveiling for the better. Probably the most interesting episode of the series so far.

I'm starting to think Nemuru, based on what she said, "To enforce the rules," exists solely to keep the worlds of gods, spirits, and humans separate in a town where they are starting to mesh together. Perhaps the wolves (spirits) really do want to become humans and this is breaking the boundaries. Perhaps when they fall in love with a human, they unknowingly devour the human soul. This could possibly explain why people who knows about this move to the other side of town, to avoid "dying" in a sense.

Looking at the OP, assuming it's translated correctly, I think the lyrics pretty much illustrates the difference between one side of town and the other, and how these wolves (spirits) cannot love humans.

"I'm sure I met you on the other side of time. I'll go with you to our far away hometown. Love cannot be seen as we travel under the illusive night sky."

All that said, this was a rather exciting episode. I'm interested in the newly introduced Kaori and how she'll play into the whole thing, although I'm under the assumption that she is the dead or missing (whichever) Mieko.

I've been wondering, for quite sometime, why on earth I'm still watching this. The episodes barely manage to keep my attention, this one included.

Maybe it's the adorable Mana-chan, or Yuu Kobayashi's voice? In this case, probably Mana, so I shall somehow put up with this series to the end, if only to see Mana-chan.

Well, besides noticing that everyone having problems controlling their impulses have about the same colored eyes and hair, I didn't really get anything new. Hiro's sexual harassment is still funny, but even funnier is people's ridiculous reactions on here.

But what's up with that guy just telling Hiro "Yeah, there's some serial killings going on" and walking away? What sane person would do that to a clearly panicked child?

edit: On the positive side, I'm starting to like the music and atmosphere.

Yeah, I do feel we need more blood, it's too censored to be a Ryukishi's work. Or we are just too used to "GORE AND RIPPED WOMBS" after Umineko/Higurashi.
And that shot through the victim's eyes is too blurry, omg, I feel dizzy when that happens.

I'm liking this show, although I'm hating like, 99% of the cast. It's just me or the wolf scythe girl is far more interesting and non-annoying than anybody else?
For what I understand until now, people can't have any kind of attraction for anyone, of that will release this "red-eye-madness" - then they get dangerous and agressive, and that's why the scythe girl has to come in and kill them.
Aaahh... I want to understand more about this :///

The only reason that I started watching this show was because it was Ryukishi's work, it has something about wolves [I absolute ADORE them] and that strange scythe girl is hot and reminds me a lot of Rika.
- Please, God, make Hiro less girly-ish and faggy... Keiichi was a bit annoying for me, but this guy is just... BLAAAAH. And please, kill that stupid annoying blonde girl. I totally hate her. It's like a crappy, worse and more annoying version of Rena.

The plot is starting to pick up, and this series is getting interesting. I assume that scythe girl is not bad and usually have a good reason to kill them. My best guess is these werewolves, who is in human form and have red eyes, can’t fall in love with human. If he or she does, the scythe girl will kill them for breaking town’s rule. I am very hooked with this series, and I can’t wait for the next episode. Oh, I still wonder about these pills.
