Ok first thing first, this movie had way to much action. Don't get me wrong, it looked good, but it got boring after a few minutes.

It was pretty good, although I prefer Square to make a movie out of FF IX instead.

And I too. D:

While it was a nice animation and had cool fighting scenes, the story was just awful.
I'd say it takes more than cool fighting scenes to make a good move.
Giving it 2/5. Or 4/10 if you like.

maybe it was because i was expecting it to be awful, but i thought it was alright

although everyone else is right about it not having a decent story, i rather liked the fight scenes and references. especially the limit break near the end, much better than omnislash. (yes i do know its something that's been done a thousand times before, but i still liked the way they did it)

i do kinda wish they had allowed the other characters to shine in more than just one fight scene each tho.

I thought Advent Children was an excellent movie. The story was interesting, and the CGI and music where great. Being a fan of the original game, I was happy with how the characters translated on screen. My only problem is that some of the main characters where pushed aside. Red XIII and Yuffie, among many others had little to do and could easily have been left out. However I understand that Final Fantasy 7 is a massive game, whilst Advent Children is a two hour movie. So while it is understandable, it did somewhat take away from this otherwise great movie.

a great movie this one is.the best i have ever seen.i so wish to see more since this is the only kind in a million.dont have problem with putting yuffie or red xiii since they have appeared aldready in DOC,they instead need to focus on the main events of the movie and the main characters .others can be supportive since its a only a movie and not episodes.

I liked it when I watched it the first time, but some reflection after watching it made me realize that it wasn't all so good an idea to just jam-pack an FFVII related movie with action scenes - FFVII is supposed to be deeper than just on-the-surface fighting, and that's its value.

I also agree with Vizard on the point about an FFIX movie - medieval seems like a good idea

Final Fantasy VII was the first Playstation game I ever got and thus, it's my most treasured and favourite game of all time. I developed a very strong emotional bond to it when I first played it back in 1999 and I was so excited when they announced this movie. But once I finally got, it after a year(!) of delay, I was so beyond disappointed. As someone said before, the story was just awful. It was just so totally off from the days of the original PSX game. After seeing this movie and hearing about the other spin offs, I've just totally isolated myself from them. I prefer to peretend these don't even excist, since FF VII is my favourite game and thus the strongest playing experience I've gotten so far.Cloud x Aeris forever! It's the truth! X3 Aand this movie GLADLY didn't give much hint to the Cloud x Tifa section. It it would have, I would have totally lost my fate in Square Enix. So thank god for that. I still can't stand that Tifa.

Personally, I didn't like it. I'm not a huge FFVII fan boy, but I have played the game and watched Advent Children as a continuation of the game as the movie was intended, and just really couldn't handle it. It really does nothing to bridge the gap what happens in the future and the end of the game and really does nothing to overall advance the story, and it fails to develop the characters and relationships. Plus, I felt that the presence of the rest of the cast (Yuffie, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Barrett, and Cid) really made no difference. To me, the movie would have felt the same without them. I felt that Cloud grieving over Aerith/Aeris should have been done with in the game to begin with, and the movie should have concentrated more on developing his relationship on Tifa more which was one of my curiosities when I watched this.

And to me, Geostigma was just a stupid plot device that really did nothing to impact the movie overall, nor does it effect Cloud's performances in the bigger fights. Vincent somehow find out the cause that it's Jenova corrupting the lifestream, but does very little address why Cloud is the only adult not affected by it, and why it targets children.

Also, why the hell should I care about Denzel more than the rest of the cast? What purpose does he have? What purpose did Kadaj's goons have rather to make Kadaj look good? And I really don't get why they had gunblades like Squall in the 8th game and why they used Bahamut SIN which I think was from 9 or 10.

I personally didn't like the action. It was repetitive and unoriginal. It just simply rips off The Matrix over the top style. To me, the Cloud/Sephiroth fight was just Neo vs Smith but with swords. I think saying this movie has great action is like saying the Irate Gamer has the most original catch phrases.

A few years ago, Yoshiyuki Tomino (creator of Gundam) said this and it can 100% apply to this anime: "People today see movies today to see movement over story, and then you get something like the third episode of the matrix." This movie is all (unoriginal) style, and zero substance.

I've never once played a Final Fantasy game but the animation in this movie looked so awesome I had to see it. Personally I loved it. Even though I was lost in the story because I've never played a game before, it was still really good IMO.

As a movie, I guess it's kind of bad lol The fighting is too fast to really tell what's going on, and the storyline is far too complicated for anyone who hasn't played FF7 (even with the recap on the DVD, I narrowly avoided confusion)

However, if you love Final Fantasy, you'll *probably* love the movie, it's as simple as that ^^ The music's great, the animation's incredible, and let's face it, Cloud is simply HOT!

Personally I loved this movie. This movie is basically what got me into anime in the first place. My brother forced me to watch this with him and I thought it was going to be the worst two hours of my life, but it was pretty good. Before this, I didn't know that animation quality could be so superb. I only knew what was main stream about anime (Pokemon, Digimon, not my cup of tea).

I never played the game, I watched it though, way way long ago so I had to read up on wikipedia to understand what was happening. I'll have to agree that there was a bit too much fighting for my taste, but overall, it was an excellent movie. Could have used more Aerith, though. I dislike Tifa, but Aerith is dead so it only mkes sense.

FF7 game should not equal plot of Advent Children (and I felt Steve Blum casted as Vincent shows how much the North American VA industry and fan base now overrates him).

James Cameron said that you shouldn't have to make a sequel and enjoy it without having to watch it first.

I say Terminator 2 before I saw the first one and I was able to get a comprehensible understanding of its own individual plot and loved it. And hey, at least it came across as more original even when it did play homage to scenes from the first movie.

I really loved it, personally.

When I first saw it I hadn't played FFVII, so the plot was really confusing, but I loved it nonetheless. I thought the characters were good, the animation was amazing, and the music simply fit. After playing the game (beat it a few weeks ago, actually) and getting an overall better understanding of the storyline, I agree that the plot isn't the movie's strong point... but everything else is.

Well it's been years that I watched this movie, but since I watched it again a few days ago due to the release of the Complete version, it reminded me exactly how I felt when I saw this movie for the first time: I liked it, but I did not like what they did to Cloud's and Sephiroth's characters. Especially to Cloud.

Crisis Core is the only great title of the Compilation, AC is completely useless and does not add anything to the game's plot itself. But it's still cool though.

i second this motion. When i watched this i only had a few encounters of playing final fantasy 7 beforehand and other sequential games that came after it. I'm not an avid ff7 fan but to me advent children as a stand alone movie doesn't create much more than just a mediocre movie with of course the outstanding CG animation that can't overlooked. The characters seem to just be there for cameo most of the time and don't seem interesting. Cloud as the main character seems very generic and a one dimension character in this film. The storyline itself picks up without actually explaining much of whats going on which ties in with the plot. Without playing the game its hard to really understand the reason of it all. This obviously feels like a fanservice for the fans. After it all I gave this movie an 8 mostly due to the eye capturing CG.

Loved it. Plot made no sense, so I just shut my brain off after like the 5 minute intro and stared at Sephy's bigass sword. CG scenes, CG action sequences, CG characters, and the awesome OST are all I need to give this a 8-9. Overlooking its major plot-makes-no-sense flaw or the blatant fanservice at the end. Rofl, "where can I buy a phone?" Man, that just choked me up. Can't wait for Complete. Hmm.

If it wasn't supposed to be the sequel of FF7 I would probably like it even with the lack of real plot.
But since it's my favorite video game and it destroyed everything that the game tried to build I really died watching it.
Overall it deserves more a 5 or 6 but I prefer giving it a 1, that would have been better if I haven't watched it...

They should have, but I think FFVII were the target audience. But, I remember FFVII for the story, so I expected at least a good one here. What did we get? Endless fighting and a simply obligatory final battle.

I never played the game and watched the movie along with my brother and we both got the "WTF" impression, however watching it again for a second time at a later stage it just seemed so much more appealing, I have no idea why, but it was just pure awesome, the action, the CG even the story that didn't make complete sense at times, but I believe this was part of its appeal owing to it's curious nature. I've recently started playing FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus, which is just pure awesome, and it's because of this movie that I was introduced into the series, and I believe the movie served to do exactly that.
Thus I believe it to be a success..
now if only they would make a PS3 remake (I know highly unlikely)
