Synopsis

In an alternate universe to the original Clannad anime, Okazaki Tomoya is dating Sakagami Tomoyo in the 24th and final episode of Clannad.

When Tomoyo is elected Student Council President, her dream to save the school's cherry blossom trees from being cut down begins to come to fruition. However, her never-ending duties and bad rumors about their relationship spread by fellow students due to Tomoya's reputation as a delinquent create a rift between the two. As Tomoya watches Tomoyo rise higher and higher into the distance, their relationship is stretched to the limit by a society that threatens to break them apart.

This one episode Clannad OVA is to me one that is filled with emotions. Aside from that, it manages to do three things to the Clannad series: One, it provides the romance that was mostly minimal in Clannad. Two, it provides the drama that gradually fell from the plot after Fuko and and Kotomi's arc. And three, it allows satisfaction to Tomoyo supporters, since not everyone was a Nagisa fan. Many people expected Clannad to be a series with significant romantic struggles and a high level of drama, but it instead turned into a slice-of-life comedy after the first one or two arcs. But with read more

I was watching the anime and playing the VN simultaneously. When I proceeded into Tomoyo arc in VN, I wanted to smash my computer because of Tomoya's action. But quickly I found consolation in the anime. I was deeply touched by it (probably because of my similar experience) and I rewatched multiple times. Well, the feeling has faded now (unlike the After Story) but I still think it a good story.
Tomoyo chapter is the first time when our main character firmly encounter the harshness in reality. The whole story is like a drama, and a well-made one, including its story development, building on conflicts, read more

Set in an alternate Clannad universe, Another World presents viewers with a love story between Okazaki Tomoya and Sakagami Tomoyo. Though it suffers from a number of problems, Another World nevertheless still achieves the emotional drama viewers would expect from an extension of the Clannad series.

With the run time of an ordinary episode, Another World inevitably suffers from a shortage of story development. The usual buffer time for viewers to get attached to the characters is heavily truncated -- the process of Tomoyo and Tomoya falling in love is not included in the episode, for obvious reasons concerning time. However, the fact that it detracts read more

Magic, pure magic. Everything that is wrong with Nagisa is right with Tomoyo.

Premise:
Filial piety is restored, and the father receives his child back into his arms by Tomoyo's grace. All mighty, all holy, all loving Tomoyo. None shall come before the father except by her.

Basically, its the Tomoyo/Canon ending for Clannad

Conclusion:
IN one stroke, we fix everything that was wrong with Clannad's ending and avoid the unmitigated catastrophe that was Clannad Afterstory. If that's not worth a ten, I don't know what is. If you're already watching Clannad, watch this, be momentarily happy, and then take the dive and watch Afterstory.

If you like animes where the main focus is love and relationships between characters, and all the emotions that come from it, then you will like these two shows. Both deal with a lot of powerful dramatic themes, such as sorrow and nostalgia. They deal mostly with being separated from the person you love/care about, and how that can affect your life. During the course of the show you might get attached to the characters and really experience their struggle and their pain. Plus, you can really relate to the characters if you have been through something similar (and perhaps even if you have not). If you watched one of them, and liked it then you are likely to like the other as well.
Both have female characters that are boyish on the outside but are really sweet on the inside. Both are class presidents and really care about the students at the school. Both are really strong. Misaki is kind of a combination of Kyou and Tomoyo from Clannad though is more similar to Tomoyo. Tomoyo and Misaki both have a love interest who would do anything for them. Clannad is a lot more serious while Maid-sama tends to be more light-hearted but still has its serious and romantic moments.
First of all it tells how the main protagonist's life would be different if he wound up with a different girl. In Clannad Tomoya ends up with Nagisa but this tells how it would be like if he was with Tomoyo like how Da Capo If tells how it would be if Jun'ichi wound up with Kotori.
Although Tomoyo is superior... it's essentially the same story.
The main character goes with the school idol and everyone around her trying to tear them apart.
