Years before the One Year War, Zionic Co. was developing a new type of piloted robots (later became Mobile Suits) using thermonuclear reactor shielded with Minovsky particles as the power source. For safety and secrecy reasons, the project was outsourced to Hosioka, a small steelworks which looked ridiculously lousy at the first sight. (Source: ANN)

At some point after the end of the One Year War on U.C. 0080, a ship comes under attack by mobile suits piloted by Zeon remnants, knowing the ship is going down a member of the crew tells Professor Minovsky to board the shuttle and evacuate in one of the escape shuttles. Unfortunately a Zaku II begis to open fire on the area of the ship where Professor Minovsky, had been sitting only moments before. Trenov Y. Minovsky was born in 1983 (U.C. 0015) in the Ural regions near Chernobyl, Ukraine. At age three, Trenov witnesses the Chernobyl Disaster. After moving to America in 1999 (U.C. 0031) he enrolled in school and began research on a fictitious particle known as "Minovsky Physics". But at the time his research was far too unrealistic, and no one understood where he was going with it. However, one of his buddies, Ionesco, informs him that Anaheim Electronics has agreed to sponsor his research. He is thrilled at this, much to the chagrin of Ionesco. Shortly thereafter in U.C. 0040, the Minovsky particle is discovered. However, at a scientific conference, it is determined that the Minovsky particle has no relation to nuclear fusion reactors and that his thesis has no conclusive evidence. The reason behind it comes from Ionesco saying that it only has conventional technological applications. Ionesco also refutes Minovsky's research by stating that a particle with a special nature like it was never detected. As of this, he was deemed an impostor and forever banned from the scientific community. A short time later, he is approached by a representative of Zeon Zum Deikun and later moves to Side 3 in U.C. 0045, and around the same time he created a nuclear fusion generator which was then used to create a artificial Sun for the Colony. At the same time, the "Minovsky Physics Society" is established and weapons development is started. However, as he becomes increasingly obsessed with weapons development, which leads to his wife leaving him. Following the death of Zeon Zum Deikun in U.C. 0070, Minovsky receives an award for his developments, but tosses it aside in front of the entire Zabi family. From here he goes back to Earth to once again visit what remains his home of Chernobyl. Presumably sometime in U.C. 0080 he declares silently to himself that he "beat you" in reference to the RX-78-2 Gundam, as Minovsky existence alone had brought about more destruction than the Gundam's existence, he also goes on to say that he also probably lost to you in the end anyhow. Universal Century 0088, in the last weeks of the struggle between the AEUG and the Titans, when a small group of elite Federal Forces officers stationed at the asteroid fortress Pezun revolt against the pro-AEUG Federation leadership. The rebels, led by Brave Cod, declare themselves the "New Desides" (a hybrid of "decision" and "dissident"). They swear to fight on for the Titans' ideology of Earthnoid supremacy. A quick battle erupts between the Federation Barzams and the newer New Desides Xeku Eins, and New Desides are successful in gaining control of the asteroid. Although Axis is the major threat on the horizon, the Federation decides that this rebellion must be put down. Task Force Alpha, a small force of Federal Forces, AEUG and Karaba veterans, is dispatched to Pezun to suppress the New Desides rebellion before it gets out of hand. In order to intimidate the rebels, Task Force Alpha is equipped with the very latest advanced mobile suit hardware, including a handful of Gundams - the most powerful of which is the MSA-0011 S Gundam, piloted by 22 year-old pilot Ryou Roots. The Task Force Alpha fleet is made up of an Argama-class assault carrier called the Pegasus III, and four Salamis-class cruisers. The Superior Gundam is equipped with an artificial intelligence system called ALICE (Advanced Logistic & Inconsequence Cognizing Equipment), which intervenes several times to save Ryou and, over time, develops true self-awareness. Gundam Gaia Gear is the story of the resistance group Metatron's struggle against the Man Hunting Attachment (MHA) police force of the tyrannical Earth Federation in the year UC 0203. To improve their chances of winning, Metatron creates a memory clone of the legendary Char Aznable. Char Afranche, aged 19 years, assumes command of Metatron and pilots the Gaia Gear Alpha after learning the truth of his origins. Gundam Gaia Gear was written by Tomino Yoshiyuki and features mechanical designs [mostly] by Ito Mamoru. Gaia Gear was Tomino's first attempt to portray the 3rd century of the UC universe. Later works by Studio Sunrise have invalidated Gaia Gear and it is now considered a UC side story (when it's remembered at all). Ito's mechanical designs are innovative and hearken back to the days before the "Gundam Look" was set in stone. Gundam Gaia Gear first appeared as a serial in the Japanese edition of Newtype Magazine (from April 1987 to December 1991). The story was then collected in five novels that ran from September 1988 to April 1992. It was also a radio drama that was collected on 5 CD's (the first released in November 1992 and the final in July 1993). Two soundtrack CD's accompanied the radio drama. Mechanical designs were featured in the February, March and April 1991 issues of Hobby Japan Magazine.

In Hathaway's Flash Hathaway Noa, still haunted by his past actions (not to mention the spirit of deceased Newtype Quess Paraya), joins a terrorist organization called Mafty and adopts the false name "Mafty Navue Erin." The organization Mafty is fighting a terrorist campaign against the Earth Federation government, and they are eventually able to acquire the incredibly powerful prototype Ξ Gundam, which Hathaway becomes the pilot of. Using the Ξ Gundam Mafty attempts to attack a meeting of high-ranking Federation cabinet members in Adelaide, Australia to force them to vote down a provision which would strengthen the Federations already considerable powers. As a point to note, this novel focuses on a version of events chronicled in creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's novelized form of Char's Counterattack, rather than his animated movie version, and as such, several discrepancies can be found between the animated work and this novel, making it more of a semi-canonical UC storyline, rather than 100% official canon. In this story, set in Universal Century 0090, the Federation sends Amuro Ray to recruit Judau Ashta to help deal with a group of Zeon remnants. While this seems routine, the Zeons have uncovered what they call the "Giant God," namely the Ideon (which is never actually called Gigantis nor Ideon within the story). While investigating, Judau learns that the Zeons are planning on using Mineva Lao Zabi's Newtype powers to awaken the Giant God and get their revenge. This manga is non-canon.
