In the 3rd century BC, after the First Punic War, Carthage suffered a devastating naval defeat at the hands of the Roman Republic. While the general of the Carthaginian army, Hamilcar, was forced to accede to a humiliating peace treaty, his son Hannibal Barca—an unemotive 6-year-old with an unmatched genius—was prophesied by the Carthaginians to be the destined conqueror of Rome. Years later, an adult Hannibal leads an army of 50,000 into Hispania—a peninsula under the protection of Rome—thereby triggering the Second Punic War. The Roman senate is dumbfounded, as their opponents' chances of success are thought to be slim; however, the young and prodigious Publius Cornelius Scipio quickly recognizes the threat posed by the gifted Carthaginian general. As a result of Hannibal's invasion, Scipio rallies a Roman army of 100,000 in preparation for a fateful confrontation. Based on ancient historic events, Ad Astra: Scipio to Hannibal follows two remarkable military commanders and a battle that could make or break their empires. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

During the conflict with the Romans, Archimedes was supposedly responsible for creating a number of war machines that devastated the Roman legions before they eventually got the upper hand. The exact nature and use of these devices is controversial, and exists more in the realm of legend than actual historical fact. (Source: Manga-Updates)

It is 217, the third century, and for several decades it has been "the age in which the human race is happiest." Rome is the world's most powerful empire but it is increasingly troubled by political corruption, barbarian intrusion, and impending impoverishment due to continual foreign campaigns. Slowly but surely its power is waning and being lost, and with the assassination of Emperor Caracalla everything begins to change.
Claudius is dead, murdered by his power-hungry wife, Agrippina. Her 14-year-old son Nero is now hailed as the fifth Roman emperor—the heir to the Julio-Claudian dynasty founded by Caesar Augustus. Nero shall be its last member. Juvenile and brash, the empire's youngest ruler takes the stage almost unwillingly, more interested in reciting Greek theatre than delivering speeches. His reign is paradoxical, as the teenage emperor shows callousness to his allies yet compassion for his subjects. Despite this demeanor, Nero seems to be the salvation of the Roman Empire: with his reforms, the senate no longer yearns for the restoration of the Roman Republic. However, as his authority and influence grow, Nero's greed soon becomes insatiable. Slowly succumbing to madness, Nero finds himself driven by desire, alienating and assassinating even his family and closest advisors. To the end of his life, he coats his hands in blood like the very blood that brought him to the throne. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
