These animes have moments or are completely based on revenge or defense. The mcs or other characters have distinct moments where they are negatively impacted and instead of succumbing to negativity, or ending it in a fight scene, they get beaten and then seek to take revenge or defend what's being attacked.

The anime on this list are known to have vengeance arcs or be based on revenge and are in most of the MAL descriptions, therefore I do not believe the title of this stack spoils anything. In my descriptions, for a couple anime, I spoil when some of the unmentioned revenge arcs happen in the anime, but tried not to go too far into detail. If you believe I spoiled anything please let me know and I'll change it ASAP.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
TV, 2019, 25 eps Me:- Author:8
This one is pretty popular and most people have generally heard what it's about. Either way, it is a perfect example of a revenge story. This anime continues to have a season 2, and that offers vengeance in another perspective, but isn't as high quality. Regardless, this is a must watch for enjoyers of revenge stories.
Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi
TV, 2021, 12 eps Me:- Author:9
Another relatively popular and well-known revenge anime. I would describe it as an uncensored and un-restrained version of Rising of the Shield Hero. While it starts differently and isn't an isekai, it's a similar story that goes into darker versions of revenge.
Youjo Senki
TV, 2017, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
While the story isn't directly on the path of revenge, the mc is fueled by revenge and so are the characters surrounding the mc. It shows an interesting perspective on vengeance and is a great anime all around.
Shingeki no Kyojin
TV, 2013, 25 eps Me:- Author:8
If you haven't heard of this anime, you have to be completely fresh to anime. Basically, everyone and anyone has heard about this anime. It is built on revenge and as the story and truth unfolds turns into a masterpiece of a story. The anime adaptation is almost complete, but I do suggest reading the manga of this one.

TV, 2021, 11 eps Me:- Author:8
On this list, this anime is probably the highest quality of production. The studio would take several week breaks to make sure the two seasons of this anime were top notch and it is executed excellently. This story is about a class-system built on race that showcases the story of a talented mecha pilot who gets consumed with rage on the battlefield and a strong-willed commander who is stubborn. The pilot seeks to guide soldiers onto and off of the battlefield and along the way lays rest to several rage and vengeance filled comrades and enemies.
Charlotte
TV, 2015, 13 eps Me:- Author:9
While this anime isn't specifically about vengeance or rage, the second half of the anime basically encompasses two arcs that are fueled by revenge and/or rage. It is a roller-coaster of a story and is well worth the watch.
Goblin Slayer
TV, 2018, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
It's literally about a dude who slays goblins because his home town was raided by goblins. It does showcase some pretty graphic and dark scenes, but if you can tolerate those, then this is a great show to watch about vengeance or if you're just into dark fantasy.
Kenpuu Denki Berserk
TV, 1997, 25 eps Me:- Author:9
Probably the most iconic show for vengeance, betrayal, and unfairness in life. This early version of the show was excellent but sadly didn't continue until a later studio picked it up and dished out the story at a lower quality. After this anime, if you want to continue the story, pick up the manga. While the mangaka did die, it seems one of his close friends is finishing it up.
Vinland Saga
TV, 2019, 24 eps Me:- Author:10
A true masterpiece of a story with great animation and plot twists. This story follows a character who grows up in order to murder the murderer of his father. A huge plot twist happens at the end and is one you must finish if you start. A season 2 is said to be coming out in 2023 as well!
Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
TV, 2006, 25 eps Me:- Author:8
Want a story about someone who falls from high power and then comes to the top of the world? If you've ever heard about a character "pulling a Lelouch" this is the anime referring to that. It showcases one of the greatest character developments of all time and is a story with tons of revenge arcs and strong emotions and wills throughout.
Mugen no Juunin
TV, 2008, 13 eps Me:- Author:-
This story is about a samurai who becomes immortal and is renowned as a strong swordsman and murderer of 100 men. He vowed to kill 1000 men who practice evil due to the fact that he was unable to save his own daughter. He meets a young girl along the way of his journey and it turns into a beautiful story of revenge and regret with light and dark patches throughout.
Sirius
TV, 2018, 12 eps Me:- Author:-
If you like vampire anime, this is one for you. This anime is all about vampires, the havoc they wreak, and the revenge that comes when a survivor is left from a vampire attack.
Claymore
TV, 2007, 26 eps Me:- Author:-
This is a story of a sidekick who joins a hero in order to seek revenge due to unfortunate circumstances that happen early on. It may also be out of inspiration towards the hero that saved the mc, but this definitely falls into the category of revenge.
91 Days
TV, 2016, 12 eps Me:- Author:-
Set in the era of prohibition, a boy's family is murdered mercilessly due to its ties with the mafia. Once he reaches age, he sets out on his path of vengeance. That is this story.
Monster
TV, 2004, 74 eps Me:- Author:8
This is a masterpiece of an anime. From the few episodes I've seen, the story is really good and it will constantly poke questions and holes in the morals and ethics of the viewers and characters as you ride along this story. With several murders, crime, and ethical decisions to be made, this story is filled with revenge and other difficult topics that are written in a masterful manner.
Dororo
TV, 2019, 24 eps Me:- Author:9
A boy is basically ripped of life before he started it and goes on to defeat demons and oppose his father who made him turn out that way. It was a very emotional story with lots of dark and rage-filled moments.
Deadman Wonderland
TV, 2011, 12 eps Me:- Author:7
Being framed for murder is one thing, but being framed for the brutal slaughter of your entire class when you watched the murder happen right in front of you is just scarring. While the anime never got a second season and isn't as masterfully done as the others on this list, it still is a great story about vengeance.
Jigoku Shoujo
TV, 2005, 26 eps Me:- Author:-
This show is a masterful idea. A demon-possessed site will grant someone's wish of revenge at the price of their soul. That's essentially the premise of this show, so obviously revenge is involved every single step of the way.
Guilty Crown
TV, 2011, 22 eps Me:- Author:-
While this is more of a post-apocalyptic story that happens to get revenge involved along the way, it is a more typical plot to simply group vs group conflict set in dire times. An unexpected person gets roped into a huge scheme and that's where this story takes flight.
Akatsuki no Yona
TV, 2014, 24 eps Me:- Author:-
This is a really great story following royalty betrayed by their own kingdom sending a young girl into the perils of the outside world. With her body guard she manages to fight through the world and take down all the enemies that stand in her way.
Bucchigire!
TV, 2022, 12 eps Me:- Author:7
This anime is set in kind of a cheesy atmosphere and has almost unintentionally funny moments due to its awkwardness, but it is about a mc who seeks revenge. He, similarly to other mcs on this list, seeks to avenge the death of his family. Aside from the vengeance, this is probably the most light-hearted anime you'll find on this list.
Kaze no Stigma
TV, 2007, 24 eps Me:- Author:-
In exile, the mc pairs up with a family member of the family he had had the most quarrels with. After some time, he returns home to find his family and the enemy family in a huge scandal involving murders and he becomes the prime culprit. In pursuit of clearing his name and getting revenge on whoever set him up, he works with his former enemies.
Tomodachi Game
TV, 2022, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
Trapped in a game where the discovery that your friends are not who they are and betrayed you in an instant is a heart-breaking thing to occur, but not to a psychopathic genius. This story surrounds Katagiri Yuichi who outsmarts and outstrategizes everyone in his path to fall in his manipulative hands. The question is, is he actually a good guy in the end of it all?
School Days
TV, 2007, 12 eps Me:- Author:-
This one is about back-stabbing friends and the trifle of quickly attained friendships that are only created for personal gain. It's an interesting show, but being set in the real world, it is a lot of drama that seems to have no external venting to set it as a better story above the others on the list. This is still a good story on vengeance, but does not live up to the bar that the others on this list set.
Kimetsu no Yaiba
TV, 2019, 26 eps Me:- Author:6
Yada yada Demon yada yada Muzan yada yada Michael Jackson yada yada ... It's so dang popular that you should know what it's about. It's not that great of a story on revenge and Inosuke and Zenitsu are either absolutely annoying or absolutely badass. There's a light-heartedness to this show to alleviate the darkness of the story it's set in, but I don't think it plays well together. I came for the masterclass fight scenes that millions of dollars were put into the making of.
Akame ga Kill!
TV, 2014, 24 eps Me:- Author:-
Basically a story about a poor kid who's hometown was mistreated by an empire so he joins a resistance group of assassins in aims to fight against the empire and help his hometown out.
Psycho-Pass
TV, 2012, 22 eps Me:- Author:-
This is basically a story about how twisted and corrupt a justice system really is or really can be. It goes into a lot of detail and is one you have to be paying attention to as you watch, but is a really well done anime.
Tokyo Ghoul
TV, 2014, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
This story isn't solely about one set of vengeance but rather a half-dozen or so culmination of different character's vengeances on each other. If you watch all the way to the final season, you'll see even more vengeance. This story has lots of dark moments in it and is very well-written. If you start it, I suggest watching all the way through, but stopping halfway is also totally fine with this one.
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken
TV, 2018, 24 eps Me:- Author:8
While this one is a relatively light-hearted anime with very few dark moments and a ton of funny moments, the mc meets another character early on and is given a second purpose in his second life. He aims to, in the end, avenge this fallen character. If you watch season two, the mc also goes through several dark moments in which he seeks revenge for.
Cowboy Bebop
TV, 1998, 26 eps Me:- Author:7
I didn't think it was all that great, but it is a classic anime about seeking and finding revenge and is a beautiful story by the end of it.
Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou
TV, 2019, 13 eps Me:- Author:8
This show will instantly grab your attention from episode 1 with the entire premise being about betrayal. It goes over some controversial topics and gets less interesting when the harem-y part gets introduced, but is worth the watch. The beginning and ending of season 1 is really well done, and if you're fine with cgi fights, this is a great action show. If you get through season 1, season 2 was so much better. The story and plot gets way more interesting and the harem-y comedy becomes a background for the second half of that season. Overall, betrayal and backstabbing is rampant throughout this show and is one of my favorites on this list.
Prison Lab
ONA, 2018, 20 eps Me:- Author:-
Basically, a sick, twisted game where a person can bring one person and torture them in the name of vengeance as long as the person they torture doesn't know who they are (or at least is unable to guess who they are). It is basically insanity and darkness without much base to it, but is entirely about revenge.
Mahou Shoujo Site
TV, 2018, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
I believe this anime is one of those hidden gems that most people don't find due to its rating and its initial bad review. Overall, it is a very dark anime that can mess with your mind. It has such a dark twisted story and great portrayal of horror and rage that viewers have said they could not finish it because it didn't make them feel right watching it. Overall, I could tolerate it and loved this anime. If you don't like dark or legitimately horrifying anime, this is not for you!!! But if you're into that stuff, this should be one you'll enjoy.
