MAL as a whole needs to work better at expanding itself in meaningful ways, and disabling the API just because the EU was having a hissy fit is the wrong way to go about it. The challenge system, in the meantime, vary a lot year after year, but they've been trying to fill in holes the last couple of years because people would misread/misunderstand a challenge and having to redo it is a "pain", I suppose. The mods running the challenge always seemed to get pissy over having to tell users their entries are invalid because of such-and-such reasons.
Isekai is definitely an acquired taste, but only a few I would say count as good isekai. I will always point to Digimon and Vision of Escaflowne as excellent examples of a good isekai (although El Hazard was actually kinda fun for what it was), and something like Endride as an example of wasted potential.
Ah, you haven't seen any of the Ghibli films, yet? You can definitely kill two birds with one stone watching them for both the Ghibli films and Movie Per Day challenges. The Luster Challenge is also a good one if you like older anime/want to see more.
I'm American, so hearing English in thick accents is weird to me lol, but I'm quick to get used to it. Helps I live in an area where I've known all sorts of people from all over the place, so I've had my fair share of accents and I honestly wish I had an accent, but I don't xD.
Three episodes a day is good, actually. It's fairly moderate and it satiates your needs well. It's when you're watching more than six episodes a day that you may actually have an addiction or just waaaay too much free time lol.
I think the system needs work, especially since they had to do a work-around invalid entries, but even that work-around is actually pretty bad. This year's probably going to be a miss for me for that reason, and hopefully next year's system will be better. Not it's not actually a bad thing to be pushed outside of your comfort zone since it helps give you a varied list, and you never know if you'll like something if you don't try it, but it actually does start to get harder the more anime you watch. Some of the challenges are difficult for me now because I can't always find an anime that would fit that challenge description (usually due to unavailability), or it relies too heavily and unfairly on a flawed outside-system like MAL Graphs weighing your favorites/least favorites.
Which three challenges do you plan on doing? Some are genre-specific, for instance. If anything, one of them should definitely be the Movie Per Day Challenge, that's a lot of fun. Did it three times myself, making a total of 300 movies.
The only Filipino dub I'm familiar with was Digimon, which was kinda hilarious to me but it was my first real exposure to the full script, so it's my soft spot.
School's a pain, but you need your education. Anime will always be there for when you need it, just don't force yourself to binge anything when you're getting too busy.
The tier system is interesting, but it limits your options until you complete the tier and be able to move up a level. Previous challenges were much more open because you could watch whatever you want and fit it wherever, but for the tier challenge, you can't do that (unless you watch an anime over 50 episodes), so you have to push yourself to watching anime you may not be invested in watching because you'd rather watch something else, but it goes with the challenge in a higher tier. It's honestly a motivation killer, and I haven't updated it since April, I believe.
Ah, MAL Badges, okay then. MAL Badges is a lot of fun, but because MAL's a piece of shit who hasn't done anything about the API since shutting it down last year, Badges will most likely shut down in September. So the Anime Watching Challenge club is your next best alternative for when Badges dies. MAL Graph is another good one, too, since it's basically the original MAL Badges.
It's never too late to start challenges, let alone watch anime from them. I take it that's how you found me, then, through the Anime Watching Challenge club? Those you totally can start at any time. MAL's challenge you can start throughout the year, though the tier system this year kinda killed my motivation. Doubt I'm gonna finish this year's challenge, but eh.
