Your blog is amazing. I wish you were still posting and I know you aren't active but I just wanted to give you a big thank you for helping me find some amazing shows thanks to your blog.

I looked at your blog. Life is Cool just looks totally awesome. I didn't like rotoscopy, because I thought it was mere copying, but I understand that it's not just that. We, as human beings don't perceive things as robots, we don't draw any frame in a same way as a computer would process frames.

Each frame has a meaning, and expressions can be exaggerated. I watched the trailer, and those expressions are just so full of emotions. Thanks for recommending something so extraordinary.

That sucks, but at least you have the memories I suppose...

though I just don't understand such MALpractice by the site itself either way, and I'd still be pissed with losing my list even with all the experience myself.

I seem to have to play around with the links at the top like "completed" or "watching" to get them to appear. On top of that, my messages were screwed up for a while.

If anything, at least it serves as a place to meet people I suppose! :D

I just wanted to let you know that I sent you a friend request because I noticed you weren't on my friends list. I guess MAL likes to be MALfunctioned sometimes! XD

Sorry for the trouble!

Hah, I started it up randomly on a whim. I've been churning out so many frickin' papers this semester to the point of burnout, so I figured it might be cathartic to actually write about something I wanted to once in awhile. And since AA isn't exactly bristling with activity these days, I decided to take the show on the road. I doubt I'll update it with any serious, thought-provoking content though...it'll mostly be an outlet for my wish-wash bantering. =\

I haven't had time to keep up with anime lately, so I'm still stuck on ep. 2 of Trapeze, which I found to be a solid improvement over its debut episode. I assume things are still trucking along nicely?

Oh! Edo Rocket is great fun, if for nothing else than one ridiculous, cat-centric episode, which I'll let you see for yourself. ;)

btw, I'm really glad to see your blog take off the way it did. I suspected as much when you first started out. It's one of a kind, man. =)

Orders received. I'd heard a bunch of people talking down EP's philosophical content so I was quite happy to ignore the various ramblings, but tbh I'm still not quite sure what the draw is supposed to be (visually I was finding it fairly hit and miss). I've begun to shift toward dropping shows more readily of late - I figure it's best for my mental health not to make too much of a project of the watching of tv shows - but I've no objection to giving the show a few more eps to impress with.

"The Old Crocodile"? "Atama Yama"? Just where on earth do you always find out about these obscure titles, gags old boy?
_eternal Jul 15, 2009 2:51 PM
Curiosity might have allegedly killed the cat, but yeah, it's still important. Experimentation leads to all sorts of positive end results, and in the worst case scenario, it'll give you a better appreciation for the stuff that you liked to begin with.

Angel's Egg was definitely interesting, but it was odd. I guess that goes without saying, but it's not the kind of thing I can understand at face value, so I'll be checking out your post and the AWO podcast on it to see what I can learn. It's certainly one of the more unique anime out there.

I find it interesting that you watched Bible Black. Might I ask why? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it sounds a little...out of character :P
kirarakim Jul 4, 2009 4:34 AM
Aww of course I should have figured there was a catch. Well I guess I will hope that one day it will be completely subbed.
kirarakim Jul 3, 2009 4:38 PM
Is all of Mouryou no Hako finally subbed?

Thanks for the recommendation, I've just added her my iTunes now and will give those songs a good listen! Oh, and since you recommended something, I'll suggest that you take a look at this Japanese band I discovered just before bluedawn, called 'Spange call Lilli line' ( you can download their first album here -> http://flying-teapot.blogspot.com/2009/04/spangle-call-lilli-line-spangle-call_10.html ); they are the same kind of chilled, melancholy, beautiful folky-rock with sweet female vocals.

And thanks for the info on Han Hui-jung; you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get information on the Korean music scene without understanding the language! bluedawn is the first Korean band I've really taken notice of, but I've been following some Korean cinema for a while now. I own most of Chan-wook Park's films on DVD and actually went to see 'Oldboy' and 'Lady Vengeance' at my local cinema in Cambridge! Just last month I finally saw 'Memories of Murder', which was incredibly good, and Kang-ho Song and Min-sik Choi are some of my favourite actors, too! (Struggling to contain the movie fan-boy in me right now)

But yeah, we really do seem to share very similar tastes in art/culture/entertainment. I was thinking about this earlier and I think stuff like Casshern Sins and bluedawn share a certain kind of 'aesthetic', albeit an emotional one, things that are romantic, beautiful, yet melancholy at the same time. I'm not sure if there's a name for this stuff, but I'm glad to have found a kindred spirit!

Have you heard of the Korean band 'Bluedawn' (푸른새벽)? Sorry if that's a ridiculous question, I've no idea how popular they were before they broke-up, but anyway, they are probably my favourite band at the moment; so beautiful and elegant :)
