Hmm, Ergo Proxy's draw besides its visuals and pretentious ramblings? I would have to say its the directing of middle stand alone episodes, which feels really different (almost separate series) to what we're given in early episodes. My favourite episode has to be episode 13, where Iggy as a character is developed extremely well, but you would probably need to watch episodes 1~12 to get the most out of it.
I understand your stance in dropping shows, I myself usually don't have the patience of 8 episodes. If you can still give Ergo Proxy a try, hmm, I would personally recommend jumping into episodes 14, 15, 16, 19. I think they are great because the directing in those episodes is just excellent, very unconventional and artsy, works of great film making. Episode 14 for example, has that flower girl motif from Ophelia (Hamlet), which you might like. Episode 15 was a hilarious stand alone episode in a typical game show format (where the characters have to answer questions correctly or die) that also revealed some important background knowledge behind the show, and episode 16 was an excellent slice of life moment that really lets you like the characters (and Pino is just love!). Can't remember much from other episodes but those three I still remember because of how much I liked them. Personally I think one could watch those episodes, skip the main arc (which imo decreases the experience rather than enhances it...only if they didn't try to come to a 'resolution' and left it ambiguous instead).
And I see you finally caved in to Aria =D. As for CCsakura, I liked the show upto episode 40 (39?) but when the second arc starts after that...it became too repetitive and stale for me. Still a cute show.
Ohh you should continue ergo proxy. Its middle portion stand lone episodes are its best part! Just don't take its philosophical talks or main plot seriously and you may get more out of it =D
Ah yes, Banner II and the relationship of understated fierceness. Dialogue is boss, and almost everyone gets a crowning moment of awesome. I've been remiss in following Berserk the manga - as I get the impression that the anime covers only a miniscule part of the narrative.
I had a fairly low expectation going in with Avatar myself. I don't know about you, but some of the characters weren't exactly my liking initially, Sokka being annoying emo, Zuko being another typically one dimensional villain, his uncle being another mentor/sidekick (that's not funny). I would rate my early impressions as somewhere around 7/10 but by the end of the show I can easily rate the whole show as 9/10, as you grow to like all the other characters as well. Perhaps the best mindset to enjoy this show would be to treat as just another light-hearted american show for kids, and let it slowly grow on you :D
I see you've completed two shows I happen to really cherish :D I just finished savouring Casshern Sins myself, you should check it out sometime. It does start off bit gritty and violent but from episode 4 it really brightens up too and is quite beautiful.
I would recommend continuing CotS saga at some point, as the sequels have something different to offer than the first series (BotS is more of one epic battle arc, and BotS II further develops Jin and Lafiel's relationship), while also keeping its strengths that make the first series great. Although perhaps a little break between each season might prevent a burn out...
Wondering what you think of Michiko to Hatchin now that you finished it. One of the more notable things was that Michiko didn't actually shoot directly at anyone throughout the course of the entire thing. And how Hiroshi was pretty much how I expected he'd turn out. :P
I was just reading comments on my previous post to reply to lelangir, and noticed your idea of alternation meant something entirely different to the idea of balance (sorry!). Feel free to correct me whenever necessary, sometimes I do get the meanings confused. Anyway, I think there is still an act of balance on the part of animators, in exactly how much, and how frequently, should one alter the density of hardness and softness, which will inevitably lead to unique approaches to their subject matter.
Sorry about the brief and late reply, I've been a bit tied up with work lately. Anyway, the Gay Stuff, yes. I'm sure I have a hideously complex Venn diagram from /a/ lying around somewhere titled 'Sexuality in Utena'.
The only thing that has really come to my mind is the presence of scenes from the television series behind scenes in the movie, but of course I have to finish the former and watch the latter before I consder that. It also sounds rather boring.

YESSSSSSSSSS
Lafiel is my goddess (Minmay faggotry notwithstanding; mechafetish prefers Spoor). Banner 2 is my most favorite part of the whole thing.
http://ghostlightning.wordpress.com/2008/10/15/lafiel/ (one of my earlier posts, but I share out of my idolatry of delicious lafiel and one of my favorite ships: jinto x lafiel)
Let me know when you've finished watching. Or, just feel free to chat me up about this franchise. I really like it.
