Final Fantasy VII Remake looks great. I'm a bit more cautious about Resident Evil 3, because of how quick it's coming out after RE2make, and RE2make had inconsistent and underdeveloped route B's. So I'm not entirely certain Resident Evil 3 will be the game everyone is hoping it'll be.
Cyberpunk 2077 is my most anticipated release. Elden Ring is my second, but I have no idea when that'll come out. Could be 2021 for all I know. I adored Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne is one of my favourite games of all time.
Take your time. Might add one or two extra things in the meantime, as well as polish up some of the sentences.
To another year of knowing you! 2020 hype!
I agree. The story is a convoluted mess too, with horrendously directed cutscenes. Sooooo much awkward pauses. The dead space between reactions made me cringe. I swear, it felt like 2 minutes after a character said something before another character had a dialogue response.
The things you mentioned, I actually like and it added to the historical realism and atmosphere of immersing yourself in the world and role. What I didn't like, was the inconsistency of that realism. The game felt conflicted, because you'd have realism implemented into the gameplay, such as the stuff you mentioned, but then there'd be clear game mechanics, like not being able to purchase certain weapons until you finish a quest, or get further in the storyline. There was a weird muddling component to it. It felt like the game couldn't decide whether it wanted to go for realism, or not. Even if forgetting my weapon on my horse was annoying, I don't mind gameplay design that does try to aim for realism. I just dislike the inconsistency of its implementation. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of the best game titles this decade, and it very much strives for realism in a lot of its own gameplay, but it's also consistent. Even down to the fact you need a sundial to know what time of day it is, because there are quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance that are time sensitive, and if you miss the deadline, you won't get a game over. It'll just continue on without you, and you'll suffer any consequences that brings to the narrative and world.
That is true. I don't even mind games that do that, but it should also tell the story through gameplay, and have you experience it. We were just talking about Red Dead Redemption 2, and that's a game that has you feel like you're living a movie. It's very cinematic, and atmospheric. When I think of games that use its gameplay to tell the story though, stuff like Shadow of the Colossus and Bloodborne spring to mind instantaneously.
P.S. Kojima isn't really a Western developer. Kojima Productions is based in Japan.
You're crazy for thinking LotGH could never work with a sequel. In fact, a LARGE number of people advocated a sequel, over the Production I.G. remake. People would rather see the reign of Alexander Siegfried von Lohengramm. The prequel series, was criticized for lacking narrative agency, and having a litany of continuity errors. The prequel series is good, but not great. There was My Conquest is the Sea of Stars which is a perfect prequel movie, taking place just before the start of the series, but that's about it. A sequel series could work, and if done right, would be incredible.
The Godfather was a perfect stand alone film, that had Part II never existed (let's forget III does), nobody would even consider that it should have a sequel. And while true, with regards to 2049. It chose to tell a continuation of the story where the first film left off. A story, most would have considered complete by the end of Blade Runner. Then came 2049, which is a hard sequel, not a soft reboot. The Last of Us Part II, to me falls into that same category. It's a sequel that had it never happened, I'd not bat an eye, or somehow think there should be a sequel. I agree that it perfectly wraps up the story by the end of the game. Maybe it wasn't as demanded as 2049, but I see it more as The Godfather Part II, where it's a sequel that is happening, whether we like it or not, and seems like it'll greatly expand upon the characters, themes and gameplay of the first. It's possible I'm just more accepting of this continuation, because Part II whether you wanted a sequel or not, just looks like a WAY better game. There's a huge possibility it'll surpass the first game in thematic exploration, cutscene direction, combat, world design and tensity. Ellie is now 19 years old; don't you think enough time has passed between the two games, to being able to tell another compelling, and contained narrative revolving around these characters?
I have a lot to say with this paragraph, namely because Death Stranding has been out, and I've played it, and then my recent thoughts on Hideo Kojima, the production of Death Stranding, Konami and his announcement that Kojima Productions will now include film production. This paragraph has not aged well, in light of some of that.
Was not aware of that, with regards to MGS2. He's really full of himself now though, sniffing his own farts. His response to some of the criticism he has received in America, is that Americans are not as educated in the fine arts as the French and Italians are. Because if the rest of the world raves about my game, from Japan to Europe, then that must mean that Americans are uncultured philistines, unable to appreciate the fine arts. Ironic, coming from someone who made a game about reconnecting America. Just because George Miller and Mamoru Oshii have come out saying that they can see the true art of filmmaking in Death Stranding, doesn't mean you should start getting high on your own hype. Humble down. XD
I'll get into my thoughts on the game next time, if you're interested in reading them. With that said, I'm not entirely sure the whole Kojima and Konami thing was Konami's fault. There's a lot of evidence to suggest Kojima is just as much at fault, because of how he treats people. Looking into it, he's FAR from a saint, at what he was doing at Konami.
Just to hit the point home: There's an actress he was working with on Death Stranding, and he replaced her with a Hollywood actress for the role all of a sudden, and instead of at least phoning her up to let her know he decided to go in another direction, he practically cut contacts with her.
Konami is a corrupt corporation, but I wouldn't place all the blame on them for that situation. Just because you might be a fan of his, or have this desire to side with the artist, it's not always the case that the blame should squarely be placed on the company.
For MGS, I'd agree, unless he did animated movies. I think Death Stranding would translate very well to live action, but it'd spend a huge budget, which would be hard to ascertain. With the recent announcement of Kojima Productions having a movie department though, I am very interested in what kind of movies he'd make. Hideo, unlike most video game developers, does have an actual eye for filmmaking. His cutscenes have actual attention to framing, cinematography and lighting. More than I can say for 99% of other games. Even if I love a lot of those games, the cutscene direction clearly does not have a filmmakers eye. So he might be able to pull it off, as not every movie has to be this big extravagant epic. Some of my favourite films are minimalist.
That's a weird statement to make, that open world games are not for me because I criticize the model a lot of gaming developers use. If you don't think critically, and provide feedback for how a system can be better, you just end up with Bethesda, BioWare, EA, Take-Two and Blizzard.
You say that, but I have examples that do otherwise. Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a massive open world, historical action rpg, developed by 131 people. Red Dead Redemption 2 for comparison had 3,023 people working on it. How is it that Kingdom Come: Deliverance did not separate its open world from its narrative? Should I bring up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Persona 5? The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077? What about HUB world/compartmentalized open world games like GreedFall, The Outer Worlds and Metro Exodus? Let's not forget Shadow of the Colossus and Death Stranding, and while there isn't a lot to do in their open worlds, both were designed with far more purpose to their greater themes and narrative. So the fact you try to coddle games that have outdated models, is actually holding gaming back from improving when other companies have done much better. You're also confusing two concepts here. You're intermingling the concepts of marrying consequences in the narrative to its open world, with having dozens of ways to approach an interaction and how that reverberates through the rest of the game world and story. While, Cyberpunk 2077 seems incredibly free, same for Divinity: Original Sin II and The Outer Worlds, games do have rules to follow to make them functionable. There's only so much freedom and variables that can be conjured forth in any given game setting. That's not what I was referring too though. Red Dead Redemption 2 is not an rpg, so to even compare its freedom of narrative exploration and consequence wouldn't be fair. I was criticizing the open world nature of the game, being disconnected from its narrative. The fact that progression does not overlap. Not the freedom of consequence exhibited throughout its open world. Everything tends to be very linear, and self-contained. The shooting mechanics are also impressively dated, which is a problem in GTA too.
The changes can be very simple too, like in Yakuza 0, not allowing Kazuma to assault random passerbys because that'd not make sense for the character, or the minigames that are open, a lot of which are not accessible to us at the start of the game, but as we play further, with each passing chapter, more and more of Kamurocho is unlocked. And all the minigames and side quests that Kazuma takes part in, match his personality and who he is as a human being. Not saying Rockstar Games should do exactly this, but it's an example of how to use its open world to better effect. To enhance the storytelling rather than be isolated from it.
They attempted to do something more with the Wanted System, as opposed to what GTA does, but they're building off of an outdated model. There's other problems to Rockstar Games' open world, other than its disconnect to the narrative too. With games progressively getting better and improving a lot of these game concepts, with each new title, even if incrementally. Rockstar Games holds up because of their incredible writing and presentation.
The examples I provided, prove you can do it significantly better than Rockstar Games.
You got it exactly right, that nothing justifies it being open world. It's just the game they decided to make. That's all you had to respond with.
Never played, so don't have any actual thoughts on it. The protagonist has been held up as an example of female empowerment in video games, and a 3rd installment has been announced. That's all I know about that. XD
Just as an aside, what are some of your favourite DLC Expansions?
P.S. Finished Death Stranding, what a masterpiece. Some news I also came across regarding Cyberpunk 2077, and how the narrative will change based on your decisions during side quests. Being more interconnected and branching with your choices, than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ever was. The more I learn about what they intend to do with Cyberpunk 2077, the more I'm realizing how perfect of an evolution this is in the rpg genre, and the more I desire this game!
Haha high art standards right there
Reading it after the anime, it feels not as good. imo ufotable really elevated the level of the series.
After watching subbed, I'm sure you can never go dubbed for Demon Slayer now.
I trust your taste classic man. You and i always like the same shit. It's only subbed at the moment right?
So good you actually plan to read the manga x'D bruh
Edit: Your 7 out of 10 doesn't match your enthusiasm for this shows quality as a shounen. Ngl
