Armed Girls Machiavellianism is an anime that certainly improves as it goes along. Every season, there usually some shows that I change my ratings for throughout their air time, no matter if it's lowering the score or upping it. This anime anime was certainly one of the cases where I upped my score a little (at least in value, but not overall), but it wasn't until it was almost at the end (after episode 11). I really liked it despite the aspects that can seem generic, but it felt different. I'm not going to pretend I'm a critical person here because
...
I'm not all that critical most times. This show felt different and it really drew me into what was happening on screen, but I want you to consider that this is not a review written by a critical person so do not try to star arguments over the review even though I know may people consider it generic; I just want to try to prevent trouble before it starts, even though the chance of it occurring is low, in my mind.
Now at the basic level, the story has nothing more than a trouble making teenager, name Fudo Nomura, who is enrolled at a co ed school, that is completely dominated by females to the point that guys are expected to weir ugly female face masks and that even a group with elite sword skills, the supreme five swords, pretty much run much of the school and are in charge of correcting the males, especially the ones who don't follow the rules. Surprisingly, it actually becomes a really good story that draws you into what is happening. It shifts more towards focusing on Fudo earning his stamps on his permission slip so he can leave the academy while following the rules. It starts off with him simply facing off against different girls in the five swords early on and becomes more entertaining and gripping later, and actually has some nice twists while still not being complicated. Even though it seems like a harem at times, it's not and it doesn't go overboard with the harem like scenes. It becomes really character focused and is quite comedic, and the ending is amazing, considering how the show is. I'll give the story an 8.
The art seems different too. It's not very colorful, but it certainly doesn't feel plain. Some of the character designs are a little weird, such as with Satori, Rin, and Chouka. They're not off putting, but the designs for Chouka and Satori do lower the art score a little for me. The back grounds and actual animation seemed pretty consistent with some occasional drops at the beginning of episodes and a few times in the middle of certain episodes, but it's not that noticeable. The character designs, backgrounds and animation quality were actually really good or even great as a whole. The creators did a great job at making sure stuff didn't seem out of place and the times that the quality did drop seemed to be conveying a more serious tone when everything shouldn't be extremely vibrant and overly colorful. I definitely feel like most of the main designs are really unique, despite some of them being creepy, like with Satori, and the animation quality drops didn't seem like it was just due to laziness. Since there were some obvious quality drops though and 2 really weird character designs, Satori and Chouka, this category doesn't feel like it has earned a 9 in my book, even though I like the majority of the other designs a lot as well as the majority of the art, but I don't think there are enough problem to totally drop my score that much, so an 8 it is.
The soundtrack has some great battle music and other scores that added to the intensity of scenes really nicely. Shocking Blue is actually a really good and maybe a great opening, but I'm thinking it's more towards the very good side. Decide is one of the best ending themes I've heard; it really shows one of the anime's main messages with it's lyrics, which I'd say is that the characters stick with each through thick and thin when they get one another and they're not going to simply someone leave their side without a good reason. That's my take on it anyway, and it's an unexpected one considering how the girls act towards Fudo early in the story, and how unlikely it is that a school dominated by females would have females that are willing to go through great lengths to keep a guy at their sides (not in the sexual way). I give the music an 8.
The character portion is difficult to describe and I'm only actually to describe Fudo Nomura. Before, I'm asked why I would cut out the rest of main cast from my review, I'll give a simple reason. Honestly, I find it hard to actually describe the girls in convincing words to people that probably have not watched the show yet, as I think my description would make them sound too generic and uninteresting. I feel that the female cast, especially, needs to be experienced for yourself to actually determine if you like the cast or not. I don't feel like my thoughts can be expressed clearly and concisely here and describing them wouldn't reflect my true thoughts.
Now that I gave my reason, which is longer than I expected it to be, I'll describe Fudo Nomura. He doesn't come off as a guy who thinks he is superior in every way to the girls he is fighting. He doesn't seem to hold back in his fights and he doesn't fight to show off his skills. The final episode explains why he fights in a great, yet very simple way. He fights to show where he stands, and not just to win. I think that is actually a great way to fight and it could help prevent you from clouding your judgement with rage and eagerness to win; I'd rather win of course, myself, but I find it to be a great way to approach a fight still. He interacts well with all the girls too despite his attitude about sticking to his ground and not agreeing to submission, very easily, when it even happens. I find him to be a great mix between a capable main character and one that is viewed as weak. He's not the best fighter and doesn't easily win fights without putting in effort like some characters, but he's not helpless either, and he certainly is capable of holding his own in martial arts based fight, which the type of fights seen int he anime. I give the characters another 8. It's not the best cast, but it's still a really good cast with a great main character.
My enjoyment score is a 9 I always really enjoyed the anime, but I started to like it more and more gradually and the amazing ending for the way show is and everything else that happens throughout the last two episodes brought up my enjoyment score a bit drastically from the lower 8 range up to my current 9. It's a show that surprised me and surpassed my initial expectations.
I hope more people watch the show and like it. It doesn't feel generic like many people think.

I love Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor. Sure, it isn't a totally unique anime by any means, but I still believe that something doesn't have to be unique to be great. Especially since almost everything can be average or close to it if everyone broke down every show to a simpler form. I'm sure even acclaimed works can be average if you approach them with a mind set of breaking the story into simpler aspects. Well, before I start rambling too much, I love Akashic Records. I'm not sure if this or Re:Creators takes my top spot for the
...
season, but either way, they are my top 2.
The story isn't the most unique, but it was really fun to watch. It's suppose to be that Sisitine discovering some of the mysteries about the floating sky castle, or at least it sounded that way at first; I realize after reading the description again that what I assumed was never the case and I just misread it. So, it's actually more of what you would expect from a magic school anime, with some unique parts mixed in together. The students favorite teacher leaves and is replaced by Glenn Radars, a very lazy and sarcastic professor, yet capable at the same time. He doesn't show his skills at first though and he actually beaten by Sistine when they dual in the first episode, I believe it was. His students realize they don't know nearly as much as they think they do, once Glenn starts teaching them all the ways to alter a simple shock bolt spell that they never knew was possible. Pretty quickly, dark forces/ people lurking within the empire they live start showing up Glenn, Sistine, Rumia, and the others start being caught in all these traps as they arise. Rumia is the damsel in distress many times, but it's more due to her past than just being a pretty girl people capture in order to use for stupid reason; it's not completely ok that her abilities and past lead to her having that role, but it seemed to serve more of a purpose than just we need a girl captured type of thing, to me anyway. As Glenn's past, Rumia's, even a little bit of Sistine's, all get revealed, the story just got more and more interesting. It will probably feel like a dull story if you're not more than an average/ are a below average fan of magic battle shows. In addition to these elements, I'd also say it's like a story of growth between Glenn and his students. His students bring out his better side and vice versa. There's also a ton of funny moments through the plot and you just need a good comedy sometimes. I'll give a 9/10 here, but I'm also a huge fan of magic battle shows.
The art is probably the most controversial part of the anime. I love the character designs, detailed background scenes, detailed magic circles and move displays, etc. The animation was actually really fluid too for the most part with some pauses and re-start ups, but that could've just been due to my computer and the settings I had up on crunchyroll. I personally find the designs to be extremely memorable. The weird school outfits (the controversial part) definitely help with this. I'll admit they are weird, but they do help the character designs stand out. Another personal 9.
The sound is rather great too. The music scores just felt like they had a slightly different tune to them than other magic battle scores. The same goes for the opening and ending themes. They may seem typical, but I'd say that they sound different and actually stand out as great songs. I consider them among some of the better ones I've heard and each of them is pretty high up on my favorites. I'll give the sound a 9.5/10 since both theme songs are among the best ones of the genre, in my book. Precious You is my favorite ending theme of the spring 2017 season.
The characters are more of the love them or hate them kind of group, or at the like them or don't like them kind. I don't see there being many in between opinions. Glenn may be there to almost always save the day, but he sure as hell doesn't feel like a self insert. I don't think a self-insert would be so snarky, lazy, have a dark past, and mess around as much as he does. His personality just doesn't fit the self insert criteria to me, and he's a great protagonist, in my book. Sisitine is a tsundere, but she doesn't seem like the typical one that acts out all the time and tried really hard to hide their feelings for most of the show. She does act out in the beginning, but she's grows more accepting of Glenn and lets her guard down a bit earlier than many tsunderes do. She also has a pretty strong sense of responsible and the will to fulfill her dream without taking drastic measures to do so. I'd rather just leave my thought focused on the main two, and let the readers see the others for themselves. I found something to like and or love about every character in the series, especially Glenn and Sisitine. I'll give another personal 9.
I'll make my thought on my enjoyment very short. I loved every minute of the anime and actually find some of it's weird aspects that are considered stupid and appalling by others to be parts of the show that make it stand out and put it at a high place among shows in the genre. I'm giving a 10 here. I'm also sorry that my review doesn't seem convincing, but I'd rather write it more for people who like the genre and are only a little hesitant to watch it rather than to convince people who generally don't like these types of shows. I hope it's of at least help.

For being a Chinese anime, The King's avatar is actually really good. The only other one I watched was spirit pact, or I at least saw the story since I actually watched the Japanese version. Either way, the story and character set up was just bad and pretty uninteresting. The King's avatar comes along now and brings about a much better feeling. It certainly has it's flaws, but it was still really good.
The basic story is about Ye Xiu being forced to resign from his professional team for the online game, Glory, due to how he treats the other members.
...
They bring the scolding or whatever upon themselves, which is told a little later, but it is still the reason he was kicked out, and I guess a little bit of inner politics as well. After the initial stuff, the show becomes about Ye Xiu, or Lord Grim, in the game, as he spends his days after having his contract terminated. The anime actually does a really good job at showing off an ex-professional's skills in fighting as well in coordinating teammates. He manages to train a couple of capable new players to be almost on par with many of his skills; their skills are certainly not as good, but they don't exactly act like complete newbies either despite their lack of experience. It becomes a story that show cases lots of action while showing the everyday life of people in the professional gaming industry. It could be better, but I'm willing to give the story an 8/10 since it is still unique among gaming/fantasy anime and comes to a very satisfying conclusion.
The art and animation part is easily the weakest. For the most part it was really fluid even during action scenes, but this wasn't always the case. At times the subtitles seem to really lag behind the conversation on screen and there was some inconsistent grainy scenes during a few fights throughout some episodes that detract from the overall art and animation quality. The character designs are still really nice though and most of them easily leave an impression to the point that I'm confident you should recognize the face at least even after it being a while since finishing the show. There is a lot of weird emotionless backgrounds, that seem to be filled with 3d cgi designs, early on and in the middle, but much of this is taken away as the show continues. The overall quality is still really fluid despite the lapses in quality. I'll give it an 8/10 because of the lapses, but it would've been an easy 9, especially if the 3d cgi background people were gone (it felt awkward to see them).
The sound is certainly one of the stronger aspects of the anime. The opening and ending themes certainly stand out among other fantasy and gaming themes, despite them not being the best of the best, in my opinion. The background music is superb though and certainly gives a different feeling than other fantasy gaming soundtracks. As a viewer, I expect these types of anime to have very good/great soundtracks, but they are not usually as different as this one. I'm giving another 8/10 for the superb background music; a 9 would be warranted if the ending and opening were a little better.
Even though I think the show has really good characters is a little hard to talk about them since almost everything was so team based rather concentrating on individuals. Every character was really good in their own way, and most of them were not purposely flashy for no reason. Ye Xiu is actually a great main lead too despite being an overpowered played. Unlike a lot of other stories though, it's not because the plot demands it and rather because he actually possesses the skills. I really enjoyed the cast and I hope you do too, so another 8/10.
My enjoyment score is another 8. I really liked/loved almost every minute of the anime, despite the backgrounds bothering me from time to time. It's a really good fantasy show and I would recommend watching it if you're a fan of the genre or sick of trapped in another world shows and want a different twist.

The best way that I can personally start talking about New Game is to say that I felt Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid type vibes from the show. Dragon Maid was my first slice of life I watched knowing what it was with New Game being my 3rd if you count Eromanga Sensei, even though myanimelist doesn't give it the slice of life tag. I'm definitely new to this genre, but it always helps your enjoyment ,or at least it does for me, to feel the similar vibes to another show you (I) loved while watching the current anime. The comedy seems really
...
similar between New Game and Kobayashi, with New Game not having any slight sexual comedy like Kobayashi does. I actually like the opening and ending themes for New Game more though. I'm sorry for rambling a little. I just wanted let part of the reason be known for why I came to love New Game so much.
The story is actually really simple while being great at the same time. Aoba Suzukaze gets a job at a gaming company called Eagle Jump right out of high school. She quickly realizes that the game they are currently working on is Fairies Story 3, or the third installment of her favorite video game, to put it in more personal terms. She gets to meet art director, Rin; the overall project manager, Shizuku; her mentor and lead character designer, Kou; and many other exciting cast members. She gets tasked with making 3d villager models for the game as well one of the main important characters. It's pretty much just simple office life beyond that with some non complicated twists along the way. It certainly doesn't feel like a realistic representation of a gaming company, but there could be one like Eagle Jump for all I know; people are not always as serious at a company as they seem to be. So, I'd say overall, it's simply about Aoba being at her dream job, designing characters and having fun and meeting new people along the way. It's simple, but it is also so much fun to watch it and I laughing and forming a smile on my ace so many times while watching it play out. I'm giving the story a 9/10, not for being complicated, but for making very good use of such a simple concept.
Doga Kobo did very well with the art. It's typical to have more vibrant and colorful art in a slice of life show, but if New Game does one thing, it shows that simple can still be great, which sometimes isn't shown in slice of life shows. Sometimes, it actually detracts from the quality when something is made to complicated and I'm happy that didn't happen here. I actually quite like the character designs here too and it is great to see a show that doesn't have one girl with enormously huge breasts; the sizes here are a lot more normal (I read this in another review, but I totally agree so I'm including the phrase too). Even though that i like all the more colorful hair colors in anime, it actually works very well just to have brown;blonde; brown; silver; and the light and dark purple hair, for Aoba and Hifumi only. Again, I'm giving a 9/10, since the art is very colorful yet simplistic without ever feeling too plain at times, and it surpasses my expectations of the genre.
The sound is kind of a weird department. This is because for the most part, slice of life shows don't have really stand out music pieces. I actually feeling like giving a 10 here though, even though it seems out of place. The opening and ending themes may actually be in my top 10 favorites lists for both types of themes respectively. I instantly fell in love with both songs and I actually ordered the cds after I finished this anime around an hours ago. The purpose of a slice of life theme, to me, is to make you feel good, show off the characters, and show you enough images to get you to watch the episode. Similar stuff goes for the ending themes, except I'd say here it's more to leave you feeling happy rather than draw you into the show. I honestly feel like Sakura Skip and Now Loading both do an amazing job of accomplishing what a slice of theme should do. It's not that there aren't many other good feeling openings and endings out there, but I felt so captivated by these ones. So, I'll admit, I'm rating this category pretty much purely on the opening and ending themes because I think they are the most important music pieces for this type of show and also due to my personal feelings about them. I also love the other music pieces, but I'd need to listen to them outside of the show for them to become a little more recognizable.
As for the characters don't expect anything deep. Yet again though, I'd say New Game showed that simplicity can be great. It's not that the characters cannot be fit into some typical trope roles, but the scenes never focus on a single character so heavily that their role becomes irritating and unbearable to deal with, in my opinion anyway. The anime also does a great job of having all the characters being so well connected and accepting of one another. It's kind of rare that such a decently sized cast gets along so well. Not even more serious shows, like Attack on Titan, have this occur, and it's wonderful to see it happen from time to time. Aoba, Shizuku, Hifumi, Kou, Rin, Umiko, Yun, Hajime, and Nene are extremely fun and actually well written yet simple, characters.
I definitely enjoyed New Game so much. There wasn't a single thing about it that I didn't enjoy. It definitely helped a lot that I had similar feelings like the ones I had while watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid come back to me again. I know I said it before, but it was great to be able to connect my experience. I'm glad that Dragon Maid and New Game! are among 2 of my less than 5 or 6 slice of life shows currently, I believe, since they give me a lot of hope for the genre and lead me to believe that I won't be disappointed often. My enjoyment score is very personal, like it should be, and that score is a 10/10. I may be inexperienced with the genre, but that doesn't mean I cannot enjoy the hell out of some of my initial shows. I honestly do recommend New Game, especially to slice of life fans or just people who want a feel good anime to watch. It's not perfect, but it's almost perfect when you account for the genre. I feel like I put a lot more effort into this review than I did for most of my previous ones, although I know I didn't give heavy character breakdowns or anything and such, so I hope you find it helpful.

Well, Strike Witches: One-Winged Witches sure is different from the other Strike Witches manga that I've read. It's not even just the fanservice, but the story too. So, I'll just dive into that now.
The story is quite simple. Another Witch squadron, Isle of Wight Detachment, is made up of five witches that all go through personal growth as they go through their daily lives either because they want to try and be as good of a witch as their idols are, they just needed some encouragement to to break out of their shell, etc. All in all, the reasons are not very
...
complicated, but they are more than enough and help the squad become connected very well. Wilma shows at the start and is basically the driving force for the development of other characters almost right off the bat. She is the just type of person that is good at bringing everyone together, even though she is a bit eccentric at times and a slight pervert. If not for her, Misa, Laura, Francie, and Amelie would not have gone through all their personal growth and become connected as a squadron that actually cares about each instead of being kind of a disconnected group. The story is simple, but great. It shows that even "non ace" witches can still be really good at their jobs and work together for the greater good. Even one-winged witches, or witches that cannot bring out their full potential on their own, can make up a great squadron.
The art is drawn extremely well and even the bullet effects are really clear and I never felt felt confused at what I was seeing. There is also a wide range of character designs and most of the girls look really cute and Misa and Wilma are quite attractive.
The characters are really good. They all depend on each other by the end and work well together besides their short comings. Strike Witches isn't know for having complicated characters and development, but I also found the series to have really good-amazing character development for the amount of characters present and the short run of the show. This series definitely offers the type of character development expected from the series. It's easier to just read the manga to find out more character details as I would basically be their whole character out other wise and ruining the experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent reading it. It's definitely unique among the Strike Witches content I've read, and I recommend it to any Strike Witches fan, even though Amelie was a bit annoying at times.

Just like with Your Name, I started this movie, expecting to not like it very much. I was proven wrong yet again, but not merely bye as large of a margin.
The shape of voice/ a silent voice is a good movie, but nothing more. The story revolves around the main character, Shouya Ishida, and his life after he bullied a death girl named, Shouko Nishimiya. She joined their class in elementary school and Shouya was the first person to point out how she was deaf. A few of the girls made fun of her too and the one girl, Nao, and
...
Shouya would steal Shouko's hearing aides and just throw them out windows or into garbage cans. The girls also made fun of her behind her back and laughed a little when someone like Shouya picked on her. When the school gets a call about all the missing hearing aides, which is why Shouko didn't come to school that day, their homeroom teacher call Shouya out as the bully and everyone that picked on Shouko made him out to be the sole culprit. After this, it spirals into the main character being isolated socially and than having his guilt get to him when he's older. He tracks down Shouko and it goes into a tragic love story with lots of twists and turns from there. I would give the story slightly more credit, but I don't feel like some the elementary classmates got what they deserved for their actions, so a 7/10 it is.
The art was good. It was wonderfully drawn, but it didn't feel as vibrant as it could have been. An 8/10 here.
The sound is the weakest part of the movie. It was not bad, but I don't feel that it enhanced the mood of each scene as well as it could have. It did not even sound like background sound was playing all the time. The sound is ok though, so it earns a 6/10.
I actually liked the characters even though they didn't all get what they deserved in the end and they were not as developed as they could have been. I feel like a lot of the side characters like Nao and Kawai did not suffer a harsh enough consequence from picking on and laughing at Shouko. Shouya definitely suffered enough though for his part in all of the bullying. Bullying almost always comes back to bite you in the butt and Shouya sure did experience this. Now, I wish some of the characters were developed a little bit more, but at Shouya and Shouta were well developed. I'll give the character portion another 7/10.
Surprisingly, I did enjoy this movie. I didn't expect to, but I did. Even though, I'm a bit mad that Nao, Kawai, and maybe Sahari (I don't think she did anything bad though, but I may have overlooked something) didn't receive enough backlash for their actions, I still like "A Silent Voice". This isn't one of my favorite movies, but I'd still suggest checking it out.

I know people don't really like this recap or outright hate it, but I actually liked it. It was not necessary, but it does its job.
Since nothing new is added to most of the categories, I'll just them sum them up in one quick paragraph. The story didn't change since it's only a recap. The art is the same, and the characters have not changed either.
There is a new ending theme just for this recap and it's pretty good, but I don't think I'll remember it very often due it to it only being randomly in this episode and nowhere else.
Now,
...
I did actually enjoy this even though it added nothing really new to the table. I remembered most of the main points already, but it was a good reminder of other things that happened when I saw most of the scenes. When you're watching over 10 anime during the season like I am, it's good to have recaps even when they aren't needed. It does its job though and that's what counts. Being unnecessary, doesn't make something bad. I do recommend this if you want to enjoy some of the scenes again, but know that a lot of them are not as good as the full scenes are, but they are a good reminder anyway.

I don't think Food Wars needed an ova since it didn't really explain much or anything, but it was fun to watch at least. Expect some of the same over the top reactions from the series and you'll enjoy this still.
The first episode is just some of the characters going on a site seeing trip and trying some traditional Japanese food since most of them are not Japanese native. This leads to a decent food challenge towards the second half. The second episode has Alice and Erina going to a public pool on a hot day and the Polar star crew
...
plus Mito hanging out near a lake, eating shaved ice, barbecuing, and such. The second episode was worth the watch just to see Erina and Alice in their swimsuits.
The art is pretty consistent with what you expect the series have. The same goes for the sound.
Like most ovas, it doesn't really add anything new to the character portion of the show, but it shouldn't make you learn to hate anyone either.
I enjoyed watching these even though nothing important really happens. I wish Mito was in a swimsuit too, but oh well. Fans of Food Wars should enjoy this, but you might not if you didn't enjoy the show all that much.

Evangelion sure is a well known and widely accepted work. I honestly don't why it's so well liked though because so many things in the anime are just stupid. I'm not yelling at people who like it, but I'll mention most of the problems I found.
The first problem is the story. Humans fighting aliens with mechanical suits is nothing new and it was honestly quite boring to watch. It might have been a little less boring if the suits had better designs. The biggest problem though, is that so many so called "deep" philosophical ideas are thrown into the
...
anime and a lot of them seemed liked they are forced into the story. Many of these themes could be picked out with a little bit of analysis, but it really took away from the story by throwing all these "deep" meanings in constantly. The final two episodes pretty much exist to explain the meaning of self worth and whatnot for Shinji and give some background for Rei and Asuka as well as to show them gaining some understanding of the self. I really feel like these two episodes didn't really add anything all that important though as most the idea behind this theme should pretty easily be picked out from previous episodes. I'll give the story a 3 since it is extremely boring and too bogged down with philosophical ideas, some forced and others that seem non-existent without going too deep into analysis. It's not the worst I've seen though.
The art actually is bad even for a 1997 work and the backgrounds are not at all special. There is way too many still shots for no good reason and the eva designs are not good or cool looking in the slightest, they're just dreadful; they look like poorly mutated beats rather than robots with a good design. Most of the characters just look completely awful and totally unappealing to the eye to boot. A 3.5/10 for this category.
Now, I do feel like the sound is really bad even for an early work. The opening theme is not good, but I guess it's ok for the show. Also, the rest of the music just seemed like general scores used for old anime, and they don't do a very good job at pumping you up for the fights or major arguments. A lot of it is just random music that is represents sounds from the outdoors or whatever used during still shots outside I'll give the sound a 3/10.
It's time to discuss the characters now. I'd say the character part is the worst aspect of Evangelion. A lot of people like to say that Rei, Shinji, and Asuka set the stage for their archetypes, but even if this is true, most of them do an extremely poor job at it. Take Shinji. He's just a whinny kid who doesn't let known a lot of what he's thinking, he complains about piloting Evangelion unit 1 for most of the first half, he does most of what he does just because he's afraid of people hating him, and he's almost always doubting himself. He's the worst case of a self insert/plot device character I've ever seen and he becomes cocky from the slightest bit of praise. Now, Rei and Misato are actually decent characters and i like their personalities, backstories, and mysteries surrounding them. Than there is Asuka, who's just a bitch. That's basically all she is. She's so cocky about her abilities and just wants to show them off even if it entails disregarding protocol and gets others involved in dangerous life threatening situations brought about by her arrogance. She pretty much treats everyone like shit besides for the class representative. Asuka literally almost gets Shinji killed within like 10 minutes of being introduced because she was arrogant; I'm not saying Shinji dying wouldn't have been a plus, but it would've had an equally negative effect on Asuka's character. Of course there's more horrible characters like Gendo Ikari and others, but there's no sense mentioning them since I don't have anything that good to say anyway. Overall, Shinji and Asuka are the worst characters of their archetypes that I've seen, many side characters are horrible people too, and Rei and Misato are really the only redeeming characters and there presence is keeping my character score at a 1/10 instead of a .5 or 0. I know people generally like these characters, but it's a perfect case of when being complicated doesn't make them not awful in every way.
It's obvious that I didn't enjoy Neon Genesis Evangelion much. One of my final thoughts will be that forcing "deep" philosophical and psychological meanings and ideas into an anime ,like they do in Eva, degrades its quality rather improving it. It's good to give viewers something to think about, but don't force it into your work and or make deep meanings that don't really fully exist in the anime. Also, considering that figuring out what makes up the "self" seems to be a big part of this anime, the last 2 episodes show how simple the show really is; if an idea/concept that the show is exploring can be summarized in 2 episodes when it originally took 24 episodes to get there, the idea is not as complicated to figure out as the work tries to make it; figuring out the idea of self is usually deep, but not the way it presented here. I''ll give my enjoyment a 2 and give an overall score of a 2.5/10. I do not recommend this. I know I mention this in all of my reviews so far for pre-2000 anime, but this is just another example of a bad anime from that time period that gets "pre-2000 classic protection". I know I've only seen a few anime from back than, but my experiences have been horrible. Hopefully, I'll find that one good one.

I really don't know what this was suppose to accomplish. Even for being a 1 minute ova this was kind of a disappointment. It doesn't really work as a good preview for the Frame Arms Girl anime that is airing now, since over half the episode just showed some beginning credits and such. You don't really get a good sense of the art and sound quality in the short time span. Characters weren't even introduced. Overall, I just really don't know what to fully think about this. It was slightly enjoyable I guess and I think there just

isn't really a source for this ova or the new show to really adapt. I guess it a least showed a glimpse of something that seems like it'll be at least an ok watch, but that's it.
