Ohh.. good thing you mentioned it has a similar style, Angel's Egg is close to perfection in atmosphere to my tastes. But I'm also a big fan of Amano's design.. and we can't forget the crew involved: Oshii, Hideaki Anno.. Can't go wrong! Wish there was more stuff like that. Have you watched Robot Carnival? Presence is a top favorite!

Hey, no problem. I was/am a bit busy at the moment, sorry for the late reply, I had no time to check Kanata at the site you reccomended, but I'm doing it soon.

Just noticing you have some interesting manga in your favorites that I never heard of. What about Cossette no Shouzou? I heard about the OVA and the manga was done afterwards.. I also have no idea what's this one is about though 15 years ago I heard about it quite a bit.

Well, in fact is a good thing for me when people get download codes, redeeming them it increases in the page the number of supporters for an album, so it bumps in bandcamp overall charts and searches and everytime someone buy a record or redeem a code, it shows in real time in bandcamp initial page; so is not rare when someone downloads one of my albums with a free code I find someone else buying the album right after; I mean, isn't something that happens all time, but it did a few times and I end always getting at least a couple of additional followers. This kind of thing makes me wonder about the speed/reach of information nowadays. It's so good and so bad same time. Very difficult to stand out musically for example while every kid with a laptop posts self released trap records in bandcamp and elsewhere.

Oh, yeah, the old posters were often insane! Sometimes both poster and film were lovely. But more often than not, an amazing poster would oversell a drab film. I had to learn to not watch a film just because of a cool poster the hard way. There were many striking aesthetics on display, while nowadays the best you can hope to get is usually a screen from the film or boring composites of the whole cast. Maybe the occasional minimalist or vague poster that's kind of intriguing, at best.

Those look interesting, though when it comes to films like TBIS, I find so many of these horror movies (even the higher budget ones) tend to have kind mundane cinematography, which makes it a little more difficult to know whether or not I'll like it, as it all comes down to writing. Wish more of them looked more like older Argento or Bava. :P

I'd have to look through what I've seen to determine if I prefer 1990s or 1980s. A lot of my favorites are kind of scattered around by decade, including some earlier ones as well.

I'm not sure if I was ever aware of The Curse. It doesn't stand out to me, other than the rather fleshy looking depiction of the meteorite. I get the feeling there are a lot of takes on that story, some more subtle than others. As far as CGI fests go, I think they handled those elements in a unique fashion in 2019. Certainly a step up from the kind of bland CGI upgrade you might see with the remake of John Carpenter's The Thing.

Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, thanks so much anyway, anytime I'll have to use discord again so I'll contact them. And thanks! If you have a bandcamp account I can send you download codes for any album from my label's catalogue, btw. I still have no idea how far you are into avant-garde or extreme music, but judging by your profile and what we've been chatting, I guess you'll find at least something interesting among my works and stuff I have brought up with the label.

I was away from MAL from same reasons + I was too busy and had no time or patience for anime media much since the mid 2010s, I returned here last year and well, after all the headache, I'd say this place is closer to the best forum/social media format; of course most of the otaky folks are cringe, but in the end the few people I find here with great taste is more open minded than people I found all these years in other groups or music forums etc. There's also the nostalgia effect for spending too much of my time in here back then. Too bad the database have a problem with moderators to update it. But still and surprisingly, this is the only place online I'm more active for chatting and doesn't feel like business or a burden to go through. I try keeping my database lists updated also with movies in letterboxd and since 2021 I got back scrobbling the stuff I hear to lastfm since I gave up on my record collection and I'm mostly digging rare tapes and stuff from my neverending mp3 files.. my problem is mostly to start into something, not to keep updating it. Like, will I ever be able to open a goodreads account and somewhere else to properly list toku and tv shows? My memory sucks and I need to list everything, but to start listing things from zero.. I get tired from simply thinking about it.

I invited you to the gekiga/rare OVA club, check your club invitations page! I bet you'll find something interesting there - it's still a closed club page since we're still organizing the list to try updating databases and making 'stacks' for the available rare, obscure, extreme and weird material in MAL.

Thanks! Though... I don't use Discord... Already have to take care of FB, IG and other pain in the ass social media accounts due to my record label/publishing company, personal music or film projects and also my daily job; and most of the people using Discord are too gamer or have games as main interest above all, what means I live in a totally different world from them since I know nothing about the media - I stopped after my Playstation 2 around 2010. But it's interesting to join compilations or share artists from theirs, do you think they reply the bandcamp e-mail or is it a very Discord based thing?
Gsarthotegga Jan 16, 2023 7:55 PM
btw, your favorites really stand out on here. So many horror and horror adjacent releases. And many of the ones that deviate tend to emphasize atmosphere. I reckon you're probably also into horror in other mediums like film and literature. Now, I don't know enough about current lit trends, other than Brian Evenson sometimes has some interesting horror short stories, but... I'm asked every once in a while about whether or not there are any good horror films recently, and I can never answer. Do you have an answer to that? :O

Plus, the colors were a bit lackluster in the anthology. Many of the screens they've used are superior to the anthology, though I sometimes wish they'd use darker inking and more contrast, but I think it should be adequate visually; who can say for the animation, though? It's safe to have 0 expectations with this one. Hahaha.
Gsarthotegga Jan 16, 2023 12:18 PM
At least with Ito he has a diverse number of stories to choose from and some are tongue in cheek and silly, so I think there's more room to choose something that you wouldn't think of as a perfect match for horror. I'd hope they go with a better-chosen song for the Uzumaki adaptation, though. Covering one story like that is much different than a wide-ranging anthology. An interesting choice to stick with b&w, but my expectations are staying low.
Gsarthotegga Jan 16, 2023 11:43 AM
Yeah, the OP was a bad match—well, maybe it was the right choice given what we got? lol I don't know... It's surprising how careless they can be with OPs. The colorful/bright/cute stuff probably only works with very specific intentions, such as with the dating sim deconstruction that was Doki Doki Literature Club or something, but that's not Japanese, anyway. It's really too bad, because I think horror and animation mix very well, but there aren't many good examples from any country—not just Japan. Most of what comes to mind are random short animations.
Gsarthotegga Jan 16, 2023 11:22 AM
I appreciate it. Yeah, I haven't been too keen on a lot of the more recent seasonals and even more so if you're talking about horror anime in general. Not sure why the industry struggles so much with horror. I checked your list to see if you had watched Boogiepop Phantom, and I think that is a perfect example of how to pull horror off when it comes to sound/visual/atmosphere, but we instead get Housing Complex C. :)
