'Akuyaku Reijou Level 99' Reveals Additional Cast, Staff, Theme Songs, Second Promo

The official website of the Akuyaku Reijou Level 99: Watashi wa Ura-Boss desu ga Maou dewa Arimasen (Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord) television anime revealed additional cast, staff, theme songs, a second promo, and a new key visual (pictured) on Wednesday. The anime is scheduled to air on January 9 at 11:30 p.m. on AT-X, followed by Tokyo MX, BS11, and MBS.

Rina Hidaka (Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon) is joining the cast as Eleanora Hillrose.

Singer Mayu Maeshima (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! 2nd Season) is performing the opening theme "LOVE or HATE?" Rina Hidaka and Fairouz Ai are performing the ending theme "Suki ga Levechi" as their respective characters. The opening theme is previewed in the promotional video below.

Minoru Yamaoka (Wakako-zake) is directing the television anime at Jumondo. Fumihiko Shimo (Itai no wa Iya nanode Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu.) is handling the series composition. Hitomi Kaiho (Hoshi no Samidare chief animation director) and Lo-Ho Kim (Kono Healer, Mendokusai chief animation director) are the character designers. Kana Utatane (Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi) is composing the music.

The anime adapts Satori Tanabata's fantasy light novel, which began on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in June 2018. Fujimi Shobo acquired the series and published the first volume in Kadokawa Books in May 2019, featuring illustrations by Tea. The fifth volume was released in June 2022, while the sixth volume is scheduled for a January 10 release.

A manga adaptation by Nokomi began serializing in B's-LOG Comic in February 2020. Kadokawa shipped the third volume on February 1.

J-Novel Club licensed the light novel in English for digital release on March 3 and released the third volume on November 24. One Peace Book licensed the manga adaptation in English on April 4 and shipped the first volume on August 15, while the second volume is scheduled for a January 16 release.

I read the manga (not the light novel) and a lot of it is slice-of-life comedic scenes. Yuminella is an autistic goth girl (lol), and she gets so much hate from everyone at school. They do have a lot of scenes where she has tutor her classmates to become strong enough to beat the Demon Lord. And so there are some occasional action scenes!

Is this really shoujo? The trailer and art looks like a typical shonen fantasy with a female protagonist.
