According to J-Cast, readers of Weekly Shounen Jump vol.42 pointed out that the descriptions of the inhalation of helium gas in manga Sket Dance chapter 105 is extremely dangerous. Shueisha made an apology in the Weekly Shounen Jump official website that they were unaware of the safety.

The apology comment by the Weekly Shounen Jump editors

In the chapter, Bossun and Himeko change the pitch of their voices by inhaling helium gas directly from the gas tank. Vendors of helium gas warn that such an action can result in suffocation. In 2007, a high school boy inhaled helium gas from a plastic bag and died of asphyxiation. The toy gas cylinder used for changing the voice pitch contains 20% oxygen, but the normal helium tank used for blowing balloons doesn't contain oxygen.

Why did they apologize? What about when characters get their heads chopped/torn off in several other anime? I would think that's pretty risky behavior which shouldn't be re-enacted.

I'd like to believe that people don't try things they see on anime/tv/movies... I'd really really like to believe that.

So what does the apology actually say, it would be nice if it got translated for us people who don't read japanese.

Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 42 "SKET DANCE" Representative had inhaled helium gas directly from the bottle in作中.
Such actions are very dangerous could cause a choking accident. Thank you everyone for your readers do not never be imitated.
I deeply regret that I have such representation on the editorial staff due to lack of awareness, we apologize.

But, really, does it matter?
Offtopic: Crappy translation is crappy. It sounded even more awkward translated to Latvian, though :D

Good that the publishers posted a prompt, suitably contrite reply

When they apologized, had the helium worn off or did they still have the squeaky voices?

It's a magazine aimed for kids [8-16, I think that's the main demo of WSJUMP] too.

Even with some sex and violence.

Well, children can be ignorant of its dangers. Adults, on the other hand.....
