Japan's Anime DVD & Blu-ray Sales Recovers in the 1st Half of Fiscal 2009
According to the report of Japan Video Software Association (JVA), the total sales of the anime DVD and Blu-ray in the first half of fiscal year 2009 increased by 2.3% compared to those of the last year.

Last year, the anime DVD+Blu-ray sales decreased by 12% and the market has been having a pessimistic prospect for the industry. Anime!Anime! attributed the growth in the sales to the steep expansion of the Blu-ray market and the relatively high price of the Blu-ray media.

I see that Blu-Ray is indeed becoming more popular than DVD's... ah, I guess it's time for me to get a Blu-Ray Player then (if I have the money, lol)

Good to see the industry recovering a little, especially with blu-ray. I hope some anime starts to get released directly by the Japanese studios in region-less blu-ray (with subs).

as the technology becomes widespread, inexpensive and well known by the consumers, it will continue to approach DVD and probably overtake it. It will take some time though. no doubt the price drop of the ps3 will drive blue ray sales this year as well. it being the only HD media in the market, it will have an easier time with no competition.

ever heard if the economic crisis that happened last year???
well.. seeing the anime industry like this.. i guess they started recovering.. or it might be that their strategy to include more Extra Ep on DVDs and Blu rays working real good.. (i'm guessing it's the later that made the Effect)
