The official site for the anime series Shigofumi, announced on Friday that the eight episode will be altered (titled "Hajimari" or "Beginning" in English). The reasoning behind this seems to be due to recent events in Japan and in society at large, the same reason for the editing of the third episode back in January.

On May 13th, the first volume of the series will be released in the U.S. by Bandai - only a couple of months after the Japanese release on March 25th.

I just watched it, I for one am kind of happy they censored it. It was done so well I didn't really notice it (plus I wasn't thinking about it) when I was watching, but if it's where I think it was....thank goodness. Poor child.

"due to recent events in Japan and in society at large..."

even the reason got censored.

Apparently only filler episodes containing sweet little kitties can survive the screening...

and animedreamer, it's okay for the DVD to contain the originals because people can choose for themselves whether they buy it or not.

It's the same with American singles and albums. No bad language in the singles but you can "fuck" as much as you want on the album as long as it has the parental advisory sticker/whatever you call it is on it.

Real Life sucks doesn't it? If my favorite series is Kodomo No Jikan, then I have to wait a year or two to watch the series in a form that's actually watchable. If my favorite series is a normal series, I have to watch half of the show before I can watch the whole show 2 years later for several hundred dollars. Real Life is so pitiful and Japan needs to realize that artistic freedom should not be limited based on society. All the governments in this world are screwed up in this sense.

I'm new to all this, but why would the DVD have everything (i.e., no censorship)? At what point is the censorship taking place? Wouldn't the DVD come out after the censorship had been done? Sorry to be stupid about all this.

Because the original episode isn't censored.

WTH . There were some really gory series aired with no constraints and they're concerned with 'society issues'. Strange country indeed.

tbh u think it could well be for publicity.

The censorship policy of Shigofumi is excessively strict. I think some of the production committee member are pretty much coward.
Recently there were two or three cases where children killed their parents. The description of Fumika shooting her father Kirameki will be censored.

Another altered episode? =/
Imo, Shigofumi isn't that controversial, why do they keep doing this (first was the altered episode 3, then some stations didn't air episode 6, and now it's episode 8) =S

Higurashi Kai was cut? How?

At the same time School Days was cut, it was uncertain whether or not they would air the 12th episode of Kai. The episode was delayed. Also, if you didn't notice, I believe they removed Rena's axe from the OP. Something like that.

I learned something interesting just now

Damn, they stink for doing this.
