And why did they hate it? Just tell me that. Merely because it didn't look pretty? That's an incompetent reason if you ask me. Is the anime bad enough past the rotoscoping to warrant scores of 1/10? Please.
AnH manga had pretty high level art but anime completely butchered it. It's not that it was just ugly. It was atrocious and inherently bad with ZERO detail on any character further than three meters from camera, COMPLETE lack of proportions (arm would triple its width as character got closer to camera by 5% only to become twice as wide half a second later), NO animation consistency and so on.
Fact is, rotoscoping in AnH anime WAS SHIT. Rotoscoping can be done much better - see Sakamichi no Apollon. People making AnH anime are nothing more than stingy lazy bastards who thought they could get away with it by appealing to people who like to think they have better taste just because it's different. Thanks god AnH anime flopped.

I don't care why they hated it. The disc sales flopped badly, and thats all that matters in this discussion.
I think it's a sign how vile most anime fans are now. Deviating from what people want or expect for the sake of originality or boldness is now destined for failure or a huge risk. This anime will be a monument to that statement forever.
Yes, anime panders to those who buy it in Japan. Which does not include you.
Get over it.
So every anime must feature tits, violence, or underaged looking girls doing cute things to become successful or at least not worry about failing financially.
Fuck this.

The anime adaptation has shot up to my top five favorites. I certainly hope there's another season with the same rotoscoping after this is over.
If Mushishi can return nine years later without much demand, there's in reason this shouldn't.
Mushishi sold a lot of discs, this diden't.
You can't compare them, the western demand is irrelevant.
Nine years of silence is still preposterous. Anyways, this anime shouldn't have flopped in my opinion. I cannot believe the incompetence of people sometimes. The rotoscoping was not the best looking, but it was meant to further emphasize the disorienting and nauseating atmosphere the anime oozes.
I couldn't have seen it done any other way. The anime also ended in a way that basically informs you a second adaptation is on the way, but if it doesn't come, it will lower my opinion of the anime adaptation. I have faith.
The anime of Aku no Hana sold 314 DVD/BD copies.
Mushishi sold 10,050 copies. Please don't compare them.
It doesn't matter of they hinted at a sescond seasond at the end, it sold like shit and no way in hell is getting a second season. Much lees now that the manga is ending and they will not have nothing to promote in case if they make a second season. So, sorry, but it's not happening.
And rightfully. I mean, what the fuck was up with them? Why didn't use the original manga art style?
I already explained what the rotoscoping does: it adds immensely to the unsettling atmosphere. Standard animation wouldn't have done it the same justice in my opinion.
No, it adds shit to the atmosphere. They should have kept the original art style. It's a basic thing thing when you're doing an adaptation. But no, they wanted to be "artsy". Well, they got what they deserved. The anime with his rotoscoping was a gigantic failure, but the manga with the original art style is a success.

Given how anime fans are obsessed with moe and other unpleasantries, I do think the decision was perhaps too much of a risk and ended up a failure. They should have made it live action altogether.

And people hated it because it was rotoscoped, it was doomed to failure. People having different taste =/ incompetence. Stop being so arrogant.

It's kinda sad to see that it's ending.
I was supposed to watch the Anime adaption, but then that shitoscoping happened =_=
Now that the Manga will end next month, I guess it's time for me to read it after it ends.
The timing is in my favor.
You're so lucky. You won't have to go through that ridiculous pacing in the second arc. While the chapters were alright, they always felt like a mean tease. He was always teasing about a certain someone, and then the story would advance so slow. You'd think, finally, more info about that certain someone, but nope, you'd have to wait a few chapters for just a minor progression.
