I'm reading Bakuman and Black Butler. The rest of the time I'm trying to catch up on Downton Abbey, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and/or Breaking Bad.

Hmm... what I don't get is that whenever I go to the B&N store, there's ALWAYS lots of gaps in the volumes for One Piece. I rarely see all the volumes. I doubt this is the case due to lack of orders, and I've always thought it was just cause people actually buy 'em... but I've never (though I admit, I rarely check) seen One Piece on the NY top selling list. It makes me kinda sad. A few years ago I was in a class full of asians and all they supported was Naruto, Death Note, and the occasional Bleach/Fruit Basket/Vampire Knight series. I only know one person that kept up with it- but he wasn't a fan of manga or anything, while everyone else didn't like it. It's so disheartening :(

Here are the usual numbers for copies sold in America:

Bookscan is the american oricon and represents around 70% of all sales done in America.

SnK volumes 1-3 on top 5 list, nice :3. I'll be curious on how well this will do later on when it makes it debut as well:

I guess western audience isn't too fond of it....

One Piece is the most famous manga in Japan I think but western audience prefer Naruto as Naruto is more famous outside Japan.

I was surprised as well, but I guess that's why the bookstores always have some of those Alice in the Country of (fill in blank).
What surprised me more was that Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji volume one was on there. Regardless of how popular it is, I would think the first volume wouldn't be selling that well with it being at the fourteenth volume coming out.
And how was Naruto in first place for a second week?!? Maybe that April's fool joke MAL did from a few years back wasn't that much of a joke after all...

I don't really mind people saying Attack on Titan (or any other manga) is overrrated, as long as they back it up with logical reasoning. But what baffles me is the fact that many of them just dump their shallow comments and then walk away without sound when other people call them out on it.

Yeah, a lot of people just cling to popular things. Looks like Attack on Titan has struck that vein. Even though I don't care for it, I think that's really good. Keep growing the the anime fanbase via mainstream titles. We don't want to be stuck in a tiny shrinking niche circle after all.

There will always be things popular among the masses (Harry Potter or Twilight are some examples as far as books go, and Justin B. as far as singers) which some people won't get into at the same degree, if at all. Something being over rated is simply an opinion, and everyone's entitled to their opinions, even those girls who act like total fools when it comes to Justin B. and the like. I'll personally agree that while SnK is a good, entertaining manga, there are others out there that deserve just as much, if not more recognition as it's currently receiving. I tend to think that hits like these come around at just the right time, and at another time while they would still be popular, not to the same degree.
