Mahjong Manga Saki To Be Animated

According to Young GanGan magazine, a mahjong manga "Saki" will be a TV anime. It will be aired in 2009.

The staff and cast are as follows:

Staff
Director: Ono Manabu ("Transformers Galaxy Force", "Dragonaut - The Resonance")
Series organizer: Urahata Tatsuhiko ("Monster")
Character designer & Graphic art director: Sasaki Masakatsu (a distinguished animator worked on "Fullmetal Alchemist", "Fate/stay night", "Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha" etc.)
Production company: Gonzo the 5th studio ("Strike Witches")

One thing is to read the Manga because you like the setting, plot, characters, the mahjong game itself, etc. And other thing is to read it only to fucking fap to lolis. Guessing by your comment, I can tell that you fit into the second option.

Wow, I was having a hard time finding a preview, so I'm very grateful for those 6 minutes.

As one could expect, the voice acting won't disappoint, Ueda Kana's voice is very flexible, so I couldn't relate Saki to any other role of her's. In Koshimizu Ami you can pick up a bit of Kallen, Kugimiya Rie's is as static and predictable as ever, the extra moe effect she needs to put in make Taco's voice sound like Momotarou's from ZKC or Chika from Hidamari Sketch. Fukuyama can't get much variation from Lelouch's voice, the same with Shiraishi Ryoko, stuck between Hayate and Nogami Aoi also from ZKC.

Seeing from the picture currently in the anime's page, Gonzo already screwed up the character designs, though, and I bet the scenes where Saki is generally being awesome won't be nearly as awesome as they should.

Oh GONZO. I just caught up on this manga and I'm pretty hooked. If they put even half as much effort into this as they did with Strike Witches, it shouldn't turn out too bad.

I pretty much respect every seiyuu on the current cast list. I've been waiting for Kana Ueda in a main character role again.

I got happy to know this news cause i'm currently like Saki. 8D by "Gonzo" makes me wanna stick with the manga. :x

funny how all the Seiyuus have either done a tsundere role, or a role which it's stuck hanging around with a tsundere. :>

I haven't read the manga but another Mahjong anime is always welcome. I just hope it is somehow as good as Legendary Gambler Tetsuya and Akagi(doubt it tho). ;)

hmmmm not sure how to feel about this one....i havent really seen many sport based anime. who knows, i guess it would only pass if it was cute enough.

I read the Director and went "NOOOOOOO", i read Gonzo and i went "NOOOOOOOOO", now i only hope that they dont mess with the manga too much...

Oh jeez, Gonzo. Well, at least they got Last Exile semi-right.

Another mahjong anime, looks good on paper I guess. Definitely won't be another Akagi, but something new will be nice.

The awesome cast of characters will never be able to hide the Gonzo-ness of the series. =P

This is going to be the best anime... Just look at the long list of seiyuu cast, most of them are on my favorite list..

Great news is great...except for the fact that its gonna be done by Gonzo. Also, there is something not right about the pic of Saki on the homepage. Oh well, its just a pic. Judgement will be passed when it airs.
