Hayao Miyazaki, currently 67 years old, told reporters at the Venice International Film Festival that it will be at least another 3 years until his next project. He plans to get a younger generation of animators to help him.

Miyazaki also gave his support to the use of animation without the use of computers, stating that he will continue to use his pencil for as long as he can.

By the time his next project comes out, he will be over 70 years old.

What an admirable man.

I can't wait for 3 years! It'll be worth it, though.

Great to see that old man is still kicking it old school, and hasn't quit just yet :)
I'm soo excited, though it's gonna be around 3 years from now. I wish for him to have the best of health lol

Ok, just to ask for all of us who aren't in the know. Who is this guy and what has he done?
I mean this was a two page love in and not once did any one directly mention any of his stuff. I just got sucked into this by that alone.
Please enlighten me to the glory that is good o'l what's his name.

i'm surprised you don't know about this guy...but if you've seen some of his movies, you'll probably want to see the rest. Just an amazing guy, if you're still curious of who he is, check my Top1 Favorite People in my profile.

kudos to Miyazaki...

I highly admire this person because of all the anime movies he had done. Looking forward to Ghibli's newly made animes also.

Miyazaki=win.

Look up to the top of the screen, and choose "People" from the drop down menu beside the Search button. Type in "Hayao Miyzaki" into the search text box and press the appropriate button.

Ta-dah.

i understand peoples attachment to hand drawn over rendered but from my point of view cg simply means that the top end anime is not as good but the more average ones see a increase in quality (fewer stills and obvious repeat frames in cg) but who am i to judge sence i'm a no talent hack when it comes to art

I wonder what the movie will be about....

Han yeah, they announced that at the informations on TV last night...It would be great, even if I always prefer the old-school manner, it-means ...Pencil. Why does everyone fall to the pixel world?:(

Hope that he won't die 'til 2010/2011....

Long live Miyazaki!

Hes still pretty young compared to my dad :P

Its nice to know that some animators like to use pencil and paper :3

even tho he is old, he is one of the best animation maker even tho he uses the pencil over cgi, director and producer in the business. his films are epic on every meaning of the word. i take my hat at him, banzai for miyazaki

CGI is over rated

i prefer pencil
i cant wait for this next project tho

I don't think Shinkai will have anything to do with Miyazaki and Ghibli at all. From what I've seen the person closest to person to 'the next Miyazaki' is Mamoru Hosoda (he was originally slated to direct Howl's anyway (but gave it up to work on Tokikake (oh the irony))).

I'm totally fine with the three year wait. If it's from Miyazaki, I'm ready to wait for his next masterpiece.

Aww, that's sad that'll it'll be 3 years, but I'm sure his next work shall be very exciting <3
