can the BDs bought from Japan be seen in Europe or Phillipines like that too?

Phillipines are Region A like North America and Japan. Europe is Region B.

But I'd also add that many anime BDs don't even use region coding anyway. And programs like AnyDVD can bypass region locks.

I was just wondering....when you say 'importing' on some anime threads...do you mean you'll buy the anime DVD/BD from Japan itself?

Yes. Almost always from Amazon Japan, though ever so often CDJapan or HMV if needed.

Is there any region lock there?

Japan is the same region as North America, but in any event I only seldom watch the actual (raw) BDs; that's what BD rips with subs are for. I buy because I like the show and want to support it.

Hopefully that clears up what I was saying there.

Yeah, you telling me what the numbers are and what they mean to you really clears everything right up. Has anyone ever told you that you're awesome at disseminating information?

I'm just going to pretend this isn't sarcasm, because if it weren't, it would be an entirely appropriate response.

Just fyi, the BD was unavailable for order at Amazon due to their ongoing dispute with Aniplex.

What, is Amazon the only way people can get thier stuff?

If that's what I were implying, then sales would have been far less, no? No need to exaggerate my point to try to refute it. As Ryan points out, they are the largest and cheapest retailer for anime. If they're not available, people can either 1) shop elsewhere, at stores that Oricon may not cover or 2) just wait for Amazon to carry them, which they will eventually. ...well, hopefully. This dispute has gone on far too long and I can't see how it's helping anyone... not consumers, not Amazon, and not Aniplex. But I'm sure someone is being damn stubborn, to the detriment of all.

No, but it does have the biggest discounts and an easy way for people to order online. The majority of the sales come from Amazon for anime, so when its not on Amazon it'll hurt... just look at Nise vol. 1 sales vs vol. 2.

May 29, 2012 9:31 PM by RyanSaotome

So the Aniplex dispute is also the reason why the Tsuritama BDs are not up for preorders yet?

Taiyo iwaku Moeyo Chaos is one of the catchy song, good job.

The solution is basically doing the same comparison to other like anime. As no point in time did I even hint at that your idea was "not enough", it was just not how I would go about it. I would do it more like the weekly charts and have the comparisons for each ranking anime. Your plan would still provide more of a picture than just doing the math on a single series.

I didn't take the time to type out every data point (it's... time consuming), but I do actually have the data on hand, and I was looking at it (same Oricon data every sales post is based on) when I listed off all of those shows. In every case except maybe 1-2, their dip from Vol. 1 to the middle volumes was less than GC's (often in the 15-25% range compared to GC's 40%+), when measured the same way. Hopefully that clears up what I was saying there.

While the target audience is a bit different, I guess Ao no Exorcist is one of the few examples of a decently-to-high-selling show with a similar decline. It dropped from 23,267 Vol. 1 to 17,027 Vol. 2, then steadily declined in significant chunks down to 8,782, a drop of 62.26% from Vol. 1. Vols. 7 and 9 were actually slightly less than Vol. 10 even. It was still very successful of course- and even a declining GC still sells better than the majority of shows, which we shouldn't forget - but sales attrition was very high.

May 29, 2012 3:48 PM by jmal

I'm curious if you can articulate what it is you actually want to see, or if you'll just repeatedly say "nope that's not enough" until I lose interest in the discussion and go away. I actually find it a genuinely interesting topic, but it'll only be an interesting discussion if you're actually open to its conclusions. If not, let me know and I won't bother.

I already said that particular comparison wasn't fair and shared what could fix it.

Since you're still disputing the "significant" part, not just objecting to the jeering, of course it's relevant. My point is, don't reject the truth of their claims just because they're making them in really obnoxious ways. You can certainly reject their attitudes though, and I'll join you in that despite not being a GC fan.

I've only seen episode 1 of GC on it's premiere, I am no fan either. There's no dispute about the significant part as I have already clarified that "my post at the time was mostly about from this moment forth." and as such you "basically agree" that the sales are more or less bottoming out and there isn't going to be a significant change in sales from volume to volume now.

You did not make time to make and adequate comparison. All you did was throw out some ideas of what an adequate comparison from you would look like. Which still leaves the single sales comparison of vol 4 of GC to vol 1 deprived of context.

You hopped into a reply that wasn't aimed at you. What you would have said is irrelevant as my initial post in this topic was not quoting you.

Little by little otaku are realising how much crap that series is.
By vol. one hundred something it will have the sales it deserve.

Attitudes like this - good timing! Just fyi, the BD was unavailable for order at Amazon due to their ongoing dispute with Aniplex. Tellingly, the DVD numbers actually went up. You're a bit premature in celebrating its demise.
