Nihon TV's Policy to Support Unremunerative 'Chihayafuru'

According to Asahi newspaper, anime critic Fujitsu Ryota reported the policy of Nihon TV, which aired Chihayafuru. The quality of the anime was decent and it could have attracted audience in a wide range of generations if it had been aired in the evening. However, no company sponsored the program (i.e. the anime producers purchased the time slot) and the DVD sales were unsuccessful. There is a discrepancy between the purchaser of the DVD/Blu-ray disc media and the general TV viewers, which mainly contribute to the ratings. Nihon TV supports unprofitable anime such as Chihayafuru of their own volition.

I suppose this thread is the real thing? :3 As I said, its at times like this my faith in humanity is restored.

I mean, sure have moe, harem, bishies, bl, fanservice. But it used to sadden me only those appealing to the otaku and fujoshi would only sell and that there aren't enough shojo manga anime adaptation fujoshi...:( seriously, japanese girls what's wrong with you?

Once again I say: my faith in humanity os restored.

I don't get it, why do these shows air at such a late hour? Do they really expect somebody to be watching at 1:30 ?
Why can't they air it during prime time? I mean, I know that some other, more popular shows have that slot but they could always create another station like Nihon TV 2 and air their other projects there at normal hours. This is what they do in my country. Almost every big network has child stations.

Who will spend money for buy an Josei anime? Although he did hit with the public television.

I plan on importing it, so there's one person who will spend money on it.

Me too. I really love to have it on my shelf soon. One more person spend money on this great show.

Chihayafuru is one of the better show out there that I really love. Too bad the majority of anime viewer only care about shows with fanservice and moe. Chihayafuru is a real hidden gem to me.

This is actually really disappointing; Chihayafuru was an AMAZING anime!
I completely agree with this Ryota character~!

People who like Josei anime. People clearly do otherwise there wouldn't be a market for it. Not everyone watches shitty shounen and harem shit.

Maybe it should be moved to the series board.

http://theakiba.com/rumor-chihayafuru-second-season/

I don't know whether it is a reliable source but there is a chance of the other season

I just finished the last ep, and decided to see if a second season had been announced, and I get THIS instead. Can't say I'm surprised, but man... really sad.

Here's to hoping a second season is made anyways!

Everything about this anime is fine, but the whole card poem thing can get old after a while.

Damn. Chihayafuru was such a great anime. I finished watching and still want more. Hope the manga continues and hopefully there will be a second season. Great plot characters, style, everything. Will be missed.

Heartbreaking :( Such a truly wonderful anime... I wanted a second season so badly. Sigh.

Hats off to Nihon TV for showing it despite the lack of a sponsor. Strange, I would have thought that the Josei market would appeal to advertisers (particularly advertisers whose products fit that demogaphic niche). Judging from the comments of those people who have actually watched the show (and the MAL stats on ratings), it looks like this would have some appeal to wider groups. But what do I know? I'm one of the disturbingly small demographic of straight males that watches Project Runway.

I will buy the DVDs if you make them available in US :(

It aired originally around like 1:30 AM (which is normal time for late night anime), but this kinda show doesn't really appeal to the otaku.
