In the staff commentary of Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Blu-ray vol.6, Urobuchi Gen has announced that he is working on the next work of madoka.

Urobuchi: It's been quite short since I began to work in the anime industry, but I was fortunate that the producers of Madoka let me do in my own way. In order to show my gratitude to the staff, I'm struggling to work out ideas of the next "thing". I think I can announce it someday.
Yuki Aoi: Second season? Second season?
Urobuchi: I'm twisting my brain now.
Yuki Aoi: There could be a parallel world or a different ending?
Urobuchi: Possible. We won't let Madoka go.

Is the second season offical?

I've just finished the anime, and I would LOVE to have another season.

All that is announced so far is a movie trilogy. First two are a retelling/recap/we're not sure yet, and the third is all new.

Shinbou and the rest of Magica Quartet have made it clear they don't want to stop at the movies, but nothing else has been confirmed.

A sequel?

I don't think I wouldn't enjoy it the same.

A spinoff or something that will explain more about Madoka would be good.

^ It will be movie trilogy, they announced it last year. xD

I'd like to see what happens after the witches with their new enemies. Maybe as like an OVA or something not a full series. But if its like new characters with Madoka as goddess(like she became at the end) then I would like it.

Disregard. Now I see the movie news.

As somebody before me said, this is in the planning phases. That means it could be a VERY long time before it comes out, and why not? You can't rush greatness. (If you do, there's a good chance of suck.)
So, two, three, four, fivesixseveneight more years? You really shouldn't expect anything right now.

Yup, it's official now! :D

Not quite yet, it's all based on a leaked and quite possibly faked cover image. But conversation should probably continue in the other thread: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=362971

Im really cowries about this.

I don't think you know what that word means.

"the highly polished, usually brightly colored shell of a marine gastropod of the genus Cypraea, as that of C. moneta (money cowrie), used as money in certain parts of Asia and Africa, or that of C. tigris, used for ornament."

Nah, I'm sure he means he's saving up his cowrie shells so he can purchase Madoka season two BDs from a merchant in rural Ethiopia when the time comes.

I'm for it.

Is it mainstream to claim a series will fail because it might be having a sequel or whatever? -_-

"Mainstream", "stupid", both are pretty interchangeable in this case.

Got to love how people can be such big fans of the show and presumably have faith in the competence and dedication of the staff behind it, yet when said staff indicates a desire to continue the franchise, it's met with a chorus of "omg ruined".

Well, a small chorus, albeit a loud one. Thankfully what really matters is that the vast majority of fans would be overjoyed to get more Madoka and it would do incredibly well in sales as well. So bring it on. I'll take more in whatever form I can get - dead serious or comedic self-parody, straight-up sequel or prequel or side-story, I don't care. I have confidence it'll be great no matter what.

Gen, bring it on. You guys are now named to score a Taisho (the SF awards = The US Nebulas).

They're trying to copy Evangelion again.
EVA: Still the true king
Madoka: The new queen

Fixed.

Screw you, poseur. I love them both.
