Ok so my review scores might be a little biased I'll be the first to admit. But it comes from a place of love. I loved this manga and for the longest time I held it as the pinnacle of character writing and romance. It was a 10/10. But then the story hits something like chapter 180 and it just... isn't great. It slowly gets worse after the main character graduates high school. The author spends something like 2 years just wasting your time, creating bullshit plotlines that mean nothing and doing nothing.
But god even that couldn't take this below a 6/10 for an average

Ok, the manga has finally finished. yeah! No it's not.
*THERE WILL BE SPOILERS* All of this is my opinion so....yeah. The ending was straight up disappointing. Natsuo asks Hina to marry him? Like where is the logic. Maybe he developed stronger feelings for her when she was in a coma, but still. The manga was just a rollercoaster, ups and downs. Domestic Girlfriend will go down as one of the largest freefalls in quality of any series released over the past 20+ years.
Domestic Girlfriend began quite strong; somewhat decent romance, good character development, great ecchi scenes, and an overall big impact in the manga community, even with its topic of illicit romance between step-siblings. The manga even did well enough to spawn an anime adaptation (the choice was questionable, but it has one of the greatest opening songs in all of anime IMO). This manga is a quintessential example of series where author runs of fresh ideas and is just dragging an obstinate horse to reach a destination, in this case, an ending which possibly everyone who is familiar with Kei Sasuga's past work knows about.
Domestic no Kanojo may have a fresh plot involving our protagonists love triangle which tragically, becomes a part of his own family after his father's decision. This manga has some truly beatiful momments of growth, change, love and hate. For 270 chapters the characters are routinly placed in bizzare and unrealistic scenarios and yet they routinely behave realistically and predictibly. If this was where the manga ended it would be a great story but Sasuga had to end the manga elsewhere.
The ending is now infamous and outisde a few hardcore Hina shippers widely unpopular. Essentailly the characters dissolve in the last six chapters in the most unrealistic ways. Well that went downhill fast. I'll admit, I watched the anime first and was entertained. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, but a decent 7/10 that made me want more. So, I went to read manga. And boy oh boy, that's a mistake I will never repeat again.
The story presentation in anime was leagues better. They cut some content, but now I see why. All the content they have cut was absolutely meaningless filler. It has really high ratings for what ever reason but I can safely say I've read it and you don't have too. I would have easily rated this higher but I cannot for a few reasons. The characters for the most part were well developed, though Hina would up pretty static. The artwork was consistently solid.
For it being what some might call a "trashy romance," it was written quite well, engaging and even inspiring at times. But you're only as good as you finish. The last few chapters caused the author to make her characters into caricatures of themselves - because the "plot demanded it." No matter which girl you wanted to "win" still lost because they either couldn't get past their own inferiority complex or were a consolation ...

Kei Sasuga is a good writer. She is capable of writing stories that are dramatic, emotional and, heck, even suspenseful. Some of the best parts of her writing are in how she takes and shifts the core of her characters and creates a dynamic relationship with the themes she wants so convey. It's pretty saddening to see so many bad reviews about this manga while not really even talking about much of what it does well. Given first hand experience with the fandom, I got to see what waifu wars does to it, how shipping goggles make a reader ignore key parts of the story or misinterpret them entirely, then rather than try to understand the themes presented, the decisions & feelings of the characters, complaining & even ranting is preferred - talk about taking the easy path, but it is how it is.

Dome x Kano is the first Manga I properly read, and it's also one of the best things I have read in a while. It's unique. The first 72 chapters were the peak of the story in my opinion they were full of excitement and kept you on edge I would easily give those a 10/10 masterpiece rating. We got an identity fraud case on Kei Sasuga, because for some reason, her writing has explosively gotten better. DnK was not a waste of time and is honestly a 10/10 masterpiece. Story: 8/10 Intense drama, suspense and touching moments is what defines Dome X Kano. This manga will always hold a special place in my heart. It is surely no less than a masterpiece. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. It really set itself apart from the rest. It shined in all its aspect as a manga. Art, Creativity, Entertainment, and Story is masterfully done. One of the best if not the best romance manga out there. It really pulls on the heartstrings and will surely make you fall in love with the characters. I can’t recommend this manga enough.
