Magic is a product of neither legends nor fairy tales, but instead has become a technology of reality since a time unknown to people. Supernatural power became a technology systematized through magic, while magic became a technical skill. A "Supernatural Power User" became a "Magic Technician." Magic Technicians (in short, Magicians) are nurtured through Magic High Schools and Universities.

This is a story about:

Tatsuya, a defective elder brother low achiever.
Miyuki, a perfect, flawless younger sister high achiever.
After both siblings entered a Magic High School,
The stage of daily turbulence was unveiled—.

Okay so let me just put this in perspective for you guys who are kinda edging towards reading it, but not to sure.

This is an amazing light novel, hands down one of the best, it has comedy, combat, romance to some extent, action, drama, intelligent and mind blowing scenes as well as interesting characters.

If you enjoy a strong male lead in a world fulled of magic and mystery, then this book is definitely for you. It's set in a world where magic can be used in everyday lives, mostly for the use of combat, but only by a select skilled few. In this read more

This is my first review, but just one thing that i can say about this novel from beginning, "Amazing"! So,there is my little review about MKnR:

Story: 9/10
The story is great (from my point of view). The siblings with very strong bound,a lot of 'comedy' between the siblings act that make the others have a misunderstanding about their relationships. The progress of story is very interesting, when tatsuya have to keep secret about his identity and his true power. But still his true power will be revealed little by little with the progress of story. Another side that make this novel more interesting is his relationship with the read more

Well, since theres no reviews on the novel, might as well write one. I've been reading this novel for several months, probably before summer, and I eagerly await updates. So heres my 2 cents:

(Spoiler Alert)
Story: 8/10
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is an interesting novel with a decently unique storyline. It starts off with a touching introduction that automatically makes the reader empathize with Tatsuya: a hardworking, intelligent, but naturally untalented highschool boy. He is put into the "reserve" program, AKA "The Weeds", because he is not talented enough to be part of the main student body, AKA "The Blooms". On the other hand, his beloved sister, read more

The anime is airing, so here's a review if you still aren't sure about this series. Note that it's a great and captivating series but the review does point out some negative aspects.

Story: 8/10
Character: 6/10
Enjoyment: 7/10
Overall Rating Bias: +/- 1

I do recommend the series though, the world is worth discovering and the events that occur around the main character worth following. If you want a science fiction take on magic in a realistic setting, this is worth checking out.
Watching the anime will most likely relieve the technical explanations, setting descriptions and bring character depth.

If you are Caucasian or just not Chinese then you can read more
