Not my thing but I don't see anything wrong with it. Most furries are super chill. Just don't accept invites for their Discord servers.

I'm not sure what is furries

It can be furries like dogs and cats with furs

Or furry, the boss enemy in Metal Gear Solid 3, with flamethrower weapon

I only know one personally but we didn't talk much, because we were no more than acquaintances. She seemed chill to me.

I would maybe actually join something like this if a non-furry is allowed in, like why the hell not. It's not like all of them are RainFurrest 2015.

I don't think furries deserve more hate than any other hobby, and people bash them just because everyone around does, or because they think it's "weird", I guess. Same thing as with anime fans or crypto people.

I think I don't know any furry as in the whole fursuit/furcon stuff, but I have a friend who's into pup play so I guess that kinda counts?

And no I wouldn't join a furcon, first I don't like crowds and I find those cringe

And about furries getting hate:
- Internet-wise people may be annoyed by the whole "owo what's this" persona some of the furries have
- IRL-wise I believe some people think furries are all about zoophilia and judge them for that (and while it's normal to judge someone who likes animals a lil too much, being a furry doesn't mean you want to bang animals)

• I'm friends with a furry on PSN who supposedly had a bit of a bad reputation amongst other members of the Godzilla community and some of my other friends. I added him because he sent me a FR, and he even made me a moderator for some of his Godzilla communities. He was mostly alright with me, but he really tried to make a point to me whether or not I knew what furries were. And I vaguely knew, but he wanted me to look further into it for some reason? but I cba so I didn't. Haven't spoken to him for years now. I also sometimes see furries at Comic Cons pretty often. In fact the last one I attended had a girl entering the cosplay competition as her fursona. I'm not really interested in the whole concept of it, but I at least know if it and some of its offshoots.

• No I wouldn't want to join a furcon, not really interested in it.

• Probably people misunderstanding them and the whole concept, people probably think they might have mental health problems or are just odd because their different.

1. Can't read the room. People hate this in general. Furries obnoxiously shove their hobby into everything that's unrelated.

2. Extremely cringe horny at every turn, but won't be honest about it. Gaslighting and disingenuous af towardsany criticism. Go to a furry anything and it revolves around sex or is loaded with it.

3. Furry designs and fan art are repetitive and awful.

4. Many of the worst and weirdest sexual fetishes are rampant (vore, inflation, etc) and the rest of their community won't call it out.

5. Related to the most-hated social media and sites: Reddit, Tumblr, etc.

I don't think I know anyone who is, but never had any problem with them. I always thought the costumes were a neat idea but never wanted to wear one or own one so it's not for me.

1: Well of course I know one, she's me.

2: Probably not. I'm not into the whole cosplay side of it. I like more the artistic side of with the character designs and creating a character that represents yourself

3: I'd honestly say it comes down to a few factors although I am not sure what one is the most common. For some it's probably a mix of them as I don't think everyone who dislikes furries dislike them for the same reasons, although there are some common elements I tend to see a lot in hate of furries and furry content

  • Thinking it is "cringe" (aka being insecure in other people's passions)
  • Hatred towards Autistic people (A lot of the time people making fun of things for being "cringe" tend to essentially end up bullying people for being on the Autism spectrum or having special interests. Not all of them mind you, but it is a pretty common occurence)
  • Finding the cosplay fursuit side strange or creepy (I honestly think the eyes are a big point for a lot of people since they don't blink)
  • Fetish content (some people tend to associate extreme fetishes like ageplay, vore, inflation, and scat with the entire community when they are niches in and of themselves and exist in other communities like the anime community. I literally saw some fucking weirdo a few months ago making scat threads on the anime discussion board here. Conflating wierd niches like that is not really fair to an entire community when it is a small fraction of the wider community.)
  • Homophobia (I tend to notice a lot of people who hate furries also tend to hate queer people in general, and queerness is pretty openly accepted within the furry community.)
  • Conflating liking anthropomorphic characters with zoophilia (do I even need to explain why this is stupid)

This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

I literally just Googled "Furry Fan Art".. diapers and age-play were right on the front pages of two of the top three results. Inflation and vore also on the third result. Lot's of other hypersexualized imagery lol. And a SINGLE click away from more fetishes on all these pages. I had enough lol.

imo would be far more respectable to just own it, because it comes across dishonest and rewriting reality like a Sternritter. This make furries more unlikable and I think it's unfair to your own community for you all to do this. It's ok if it revolves around fetishes and stuff.

When i went to google images, it took a little bit of scrolling to find full nsfw art, and even more so to find niche kink art like you are describing. I also find it a bit hypocritical that a lot of anime fans will hate on furries and associate them with the more niche and taboo kinks when stuff like lolicon, incest, and non-con fetish content are commonly discussed topics in anime spaces.

"Your natural aversion to something is just you being insecure in other people's passions!"

With how much of a jackass you are being towards people for a harmless thing like....liking animal characters and basically saying every furry is into extremely niche kinks you sure as hell sound like it. If they aren't engaging in things that are harming anyone, or promoting harm, then why do you care?

If you see anyone sticking up against generalizations as "gaslighting against criticism" it sounds like you are just an asshole and want to push other people down for the smallest things. By your own fucking logic i could twist your own words to be as unfavorable as possibel to anime fans

I am not associated with any furries. I don't consider myself one, and I kinda dislike conventions in general, so no on that even if I were. That being said, there are certain anthropomorphic characters were I look at them and I get the horny aspect of it.

Which brings me to the hate. I think there's multiple reasons for it. First being people just think it's a weird hobby in general. Second being the assumption that people only get into it for sexual purposes. Third being that people can be of the opinion that furries shouldn't be allowed to own pets, if you catch my drift...

Not personally, no. I am not a furry myself* nor do I know anyone in person whom is a furry.

I don't mind furries, though. People can enjoy what they like. Online, I have come across some hypocritical furries** who I don't like, but they obviously aren't representative of the entire community. I've also come across nice furries online.

*While I do love kemonomimi (examples being nekomimi/catgirls, inumimi/dog girls, kitsunemimi/fox girls, okamimimi/wolfgirls, usagimimi/bunny girls, etc.), this does not count. There is a massive distinction between kemonomimi and furry characters. Furries do not like kemonomimi, generally, and people who like kemonomimi are not furries.

**"Hypocritical" here refers to furries who enjoy the sexual and kinky side of furry fandom, which to be clear is perfectly fine (and not all furry art is sexual anyway), but throw hysterical tantrums or harass people or worse, over lolicon/shotacon or non-con fics/hentai or incest, among others. All of these are fine in fiction. There shouldn't be any infighting amongst the freaks, especially in times like now where censorship is escalating and trans rights are threatened. The unwise may feel safe knowing they aren't on the chopping block right now, but soon they will be. It's times like these where we must stand together.

1. I am one.

2. Yes but I'm broke. No way I can afford to travel to one, let alone stay overnights at con center hotels. Sadly I am not one of those suspiciously wealthy furries.

3. If it's a subculture or interest that exists, especially if it's on the internet, it's going to get hate. That's how the internet works. And let's face it: we're weird. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Nut up and take it with some grace.

Also does not help that, yes, there is a painfully common issue with some attempting unprompted spontaneous roleplay with randoms, whether furry or not, and that reflects badly on the community. Those sorts are extremely annoying. If I didn't ask, I'm not interested!

Edit:

I personally don't have anything against furries. Everyone is allowed to enjoy what they like as long they are not hurting others in any way or form. I just don't like the double standards some have towards certain things but somehow, they claim such arguments cannot be applied to what they like at the same time. I never meet a furry in person and I rarely talk to them online.

Also liking a catboy/cat boy don't make someone a furry since such characters are predominantely human. A furry character must be covered in fur for example and/or predominant animal characteristics like a dog mouth.

It's not something I largely care about, though hilariously enough Japanese furry artists, and stuff like Reviewers got me to think again lol. Still nah, IDC enough, I like some furry art, however, not enough to make it a "hobby". Plus the reason they get a lot of hate, is there are a lot of weirdos in that community, even compared to this community, which is saying a lot.
