FYI: I've blurred the two usernames. Clearly, they're both passionate about the series and wants it to succeed. Personally, I really, really like the animation. I also feel like it is doing a lot better than other shows this 2024 Fall Season of releases. But what do you think? Is it really a turn off for some fans?

You might have to CTRL Zoom to see, my apologies.

People are too used to the generic art in most series that sth different like Dandadan looks completely alien to them. Don't show them any other Science Saru anime or they'll lose their minds over the art.

Hating on popular thing is a trend, because hot takes criticisms something critically acclaimed receive much more attention than regular, milktoast opinion. We had the same situation when JJK was airing and there was even that one douche on TikTok, who straight up LIED about being informed by key animator from MAPPA (yes, she literally thought people will believe), that they used AI for animation.
There is no way you can look at this sakuga and objectively tell that this animation is bad. It just ridiculous.
This happens literally every time a popular and critically acclaimed anime comes out and this time is no different. People nitpick, pause, zoom in order to complain about some frames being out of focus. Just don't give them attention they crave.

I mean you can tell that the individual doesn’t know jack shit about animation and how it’s done as they’re not the one doing it so they think that it gives them the right to criticise the talented animators who worked their ass off to create something special and unique.

idk how you people feel about it, but I think it's great that Science SARU does the animations. despite Mappa being a great studio, I can imagine it would not feel as exciting to watch if they animated it. this brings fresh air to a new gen shonen. I hope they keep that quality.

Man they just make the art style look like a carton from carton network or nick. If you are a manga reader you know what I mean. The artist spent too much time to draw each ghost in the manga to look intimidating and creepy but in the anime they put lots of colors and broken gestures, and inconsistent strokes.

So disappointing.

The world is cruel, ugly and pitiful. Let's watch anime and make it colorful

I’ve seen this comparison multiple times, a Cartoon Network show…what cartoons were y’all watching? I never saw one look like this haha. In all seriousness, it’s alright for it not to live up to personal expectations (very hard when something is as hyped as Dan Da Dan) but I personally feel like there was far more detail and creativity put into this episode for people to draw comparisons to stuff like adventure time. I’m not as big a fan of Dan Da Dan as a lot of people, but I watched this first episode and thought the approach was super fitting, and I didn’t really see the issue with detailing that a lot of people are having. Again, just my opinion in respect to yours

Does this kind of person really know how much effort the studio put into this? Maybe they're just used to generic isekai animations. It's sad to know that there are people who are really bothered by Dandandan's ANIMATION.

This guy knows nothing about animation lol, no need to take him seriously. If you want to judge animation, you should notice how the elements on the screen move. I trick I use is to imagine how hard it would be to animate one scene, that way you could recognise and appreciate well animated cuts easily.

Why can't we have people complaining and critisizing about actually bad animation? Nah, lets just shit on something that is clearly great and has a lot of effort and passion put into. How do you even compare this to a CN cartoon? Like, I just don't even know what to say at this point, only a bruh moment.

For those saying it's "bad," what are you basing that on? Please give examples of the style you would've liked to have seen, and then explain why you believe it would've been a better fit for the source material.

It looks more "airy" and "flowy" instead of the modern "static" kind of animation. This has the benefit of being able to integrate all the weird and bizarre scenes Dandadan has and needs properly animated. A small trade of and sometimes you can barely notice it, especially when there isn't any action. Modern anime fans have been brainwashed by all the boring look-alike anime that release today and expect the same all the time.

The animation initially left me unimpressed, but the action sequences in the later part of the episode were incredibly well-animated, elevating the episode's overall quality. 🤯

@kathodePilot I've always seen clips from Science Saru, specifically, sakuga scenes. However, I've never actually watched one of their series to its entirety. I'm definitely going to watch more of their works after finishing Dandadan.

@deg Interesting! I'm really unaware of the behind-the-scenes of animation. But after reading your comments on Kameda and 'Kanada School' I went on to read a blog post on the team involved with Dandadan's production. I didn't even realize how influential, Yoshimichi Kameda's style was in the animator space. Surprisingly, I also found out he was involved with other popular shows which I've previously watched. Honestly, this whole thing has been eye-opening for the small knowledge I have on different animation styles.

Are we even watching the same anime? how can people call the animation in the 1st episode bad? it wasn't bad, it's pretty damn good, even some crazy people out there call the animation of Chainsaw Man bad, you guys don't deserve anime.

Anyone calling the animation of this 1st episode bad should drop this anime and should stick to watching your classic Naruto and Bleach filler episodes, it's what you deserve.

@xZabuzax its bait designed to elicit a response by saying something blatantly false which elicits a very strong response from people that know the opposite is true and care...

@bmbl-bae Glad to hear from someone experienced in animation. I was worried that I'd be a bit bias because I'm really enamored with this series. So it is reassuring to get a more grounded take from an artist's perspective. I think my brother is also at university for animation related stuff so I'm excited to hear what he thinks of the anime as well. I loved the scene when Ayase awakens her 'inner chi' around the 17:43 mark. The colours are so vivid and the shattered glass is fricking cool.
